Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Duper! Really warm and very light. I regularly wear it as my winter jacket in Minneapolis, but yet I don’t get too warm if I wear it inside for a while.

This seems very similar to the nano puff (Which I love), what would be the main difference?

Asked by: Tea pott
Hiya Tea pott, thanks for your question! The main difference is that the Nano Puff jacket has synthetic insulation, while the Down Sweater is insulated with down feathers. They are both lightweight and warm but the Down Sweater is more of a "puffy" jacket. Hope this helps!

Is this jacket warm enough for a wisconsin winter?

Asked by: lisa
If you mean cold as in ~30s or below, then No! It's not meant as a heavy duty/regular down jacket/parka which would keep you warm under harsh cold conditions. [Lived temporarily in Duluth, MN years ago but grew up/live in New England. I know winter!] This is the lightweight version, hence down 'sweater'. It's meant for outer layer when it's relatively warmer or as an insulating layer. If you're active, it could be warm provided you properly layered underneath.

I am torn between the large and extra large. The large fits me, but is snug. My wife is rooting for the extra large which falls off me a bit. I could wear a sweat shirt easier under that, but looks baggy. Any feedback.

Asked by: ckla2
Hiya ckla2, thanks for your question! It really depends on your purpose for the jacket. Do you plan on wearing a shell jacket over it to go ice climbing, skiing or other winter activity? If so, go with the large. If you want to wear thick items under it for hitting the town or just general casual wear, go with the extra large. Hope this helps!

is the french red a very deep vibrant red or like a faded orange? There are so many shades of red its confusing- I want a bright candy apple red. Also, do you think the xsmall in mens would fit like a small in womens?

Asked by: Lacey
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! I have the Patagonia Men's Down Sweater in French Red in my hands. You're right, there are a lot of reds out there! This particular sweater is not "faded orange," and I wouldn't consider it "bright" or "candied apple red" either. Can you think of red as a primary color? Like when you were a kid and got the red, yellow and blue paint in art class? I think that red describes this sweater. I hope I have helped you narrow down the reds! I was seeing red and almost forgot to answer your question about sizing! I really don't think the XS in men's would fit similar to a S in women's. Why? Men's jackets are cut more square, where as women's jackets tend to be more narrow at the waist to better accommodate the shape of their hips.

I just received the Men's down sweater jacket. It doesn't seem like it will be warm enough for our winters here. It seems too lightweight for temperatures under 32? I know it is 800 fill down count. What does that mean in regards to Warmth? any warmer one

Asked by: KBlakes
Hiya KBlakes, these are some great questions! The 800 down fill count refers to the quality (fluffiness) of the down, not necessarily warmth. The higher the fill, the better the quality and lighter the weight. 800 fill is on the higher end of the spectrum so this jacket will feel very light. It a good option for winter sports, as it requires the body heat generated from the wearer to create thousands of tiny air pockets which trap warm air and retain heat. This jacket is probably best for fall, early winter or spring weather, but it can be layered both over or under for added warmth. Hope this helps!

What about laundering? The similar jacket with primaoft was washable in reviews from a guy on the PCT. Thanks!

Asked by: Dana
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! To clean your Patagonia Down Sweater, machine wash it in a front loader washing machine using warm water and a delicate detergent like Woolite. Rinse twice. Tumble dry on low heat with a couple of clean tennis balls.
