Moosejaw Staff Pick - BR, Moosejaw Secret Headquarters

The Patagonia Men’s Capilene 4 EW ¼ Zip Hoody is an expedition weight base layer for hitting the powder or snuggling with a mug of cocoa. The Capilene 4 is the warmest base in the Capilene line so you’re in for a treat during the cold months. Next to your skin the fleece interior is so soft, while the outside has a smooth face, so you can pull on other layers with ease. Thumb loops ensure the sleeves stay in place and the high collar with hood keeps you warm when the wind picks up. The long center zipper quickly regulates your temperature and the chest pocket keeps your favorite snack close by.

FEATURES of the Patagonia Men's Capilene 4 EW 1/4-Zip Hoody

  • Polartec Power Dry High Efficiency fabric has a smooth face for easy layering
  • Fabric's open grid pattern next to skin provides superior warmth, breathability and moisture-wicking performance
  • Spandex for stretch and ease of movement
  • High collar and self-fabric hood with anatomical shaping for warmth
  • Long center front zipper vents body heat
  • Zippered left chest pocket for secure storage; thumb loops for secure hand coverage

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Base/midlayer I love this thing. Incredibly warm for how thin and light it is. Very comfortable. Works next to skin or over a tee. Throw something else on top and you'll be toasty warm. The hood is bonkers good, but be prepared for a hood. The hood zips up all the way to over the chin almost like a balaclava with a close fit around the head. Does a great job of staying dry. I'm 6'2" at 160lbs and a medium fits perfectly. Patagucci for the win!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the Money! I held off on buying this for quite a long time because of the price, and used more budget friendly base and mid layers. Now that I own it I am so glad I made the purchase and wish I would have pulled the trigger on it sooner! It lives up to the hype! It is now a go to layering piece for me. Can be used as a base or midlayer depending on needs and conditions. I'm 6'2", 200 pounds, 34" waist with a muscular/athletic build and the L fits me perfect. It is very form fitting but that is how I like my layering pieces. Sleeve length is great for my long arms. Fit, finish and function are above the rest based on my experience compared to other similar layers I have owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, comfortable, and stylish I love this Hoody! I was initially unsure how warm it would be given how light/thin it is; however, I used it the day it arrived to do some work on my car, and I was beyond toasty warm. This is an effective base layer, and the hood is nice and deep to accommodate hats or whatever else one might have on his/her head. Overall, this is a must of the best purchases I've ever made from Moosejaw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I've been skiing for 45 years and I wouldn't ski without Patagonia a set of each! Patagonia base layers are wonderful....they last a long time with continuous wear and I have a set of each wight for everyone in my family.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be the best base layer ever, but.... Could be the best base layer ever, but....,,I had big expectation on this garment. I have to say that the material works pretty well, breathes incredible, dries super fast, odor ok (not excellent) , as expected, but my complaint come from the fit. Why Patagonia doesn’t make it long as the R1 Hoody???? ,,When climbing and reaching long distance holds, the lower back ride up… and the cold came in….,,I hope Patagonia solve this fit issue and standardize the Center back length like the R1 Hoody for the entire base layer line.,,Bottom line, great material, poor fit (for the intended use of course),,I am 6.4 220 pounds, XL,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ugly, but comfort conquers all Patagonia knows its stuff. This quarter-zip hoody is a lovely way to get around the yurt on an icy morning, and under a sweater it’s positively toasty. “How cool. Is it a hoody? Is it underwear?” my mother asks. My best friend answers her: “I don’t know what it is, but I kind of want one.” ,,,,Yeah, yeah, it’s meant to be an expedition-weight base layer accompanied by semi-magical technical garments woven out of moonbeams and mountain roots in a proprietary process – the Cap 4 hoody does that job just fine, too. I also own a couple Patagonia's non-hoody shirts, which are slightly more fashionable but considerably less awesome.,,,,The hood is small compared to most mid-/outer-layer hoodies, but that’s because it’s a base layer, and also because it’s designed to squeeze blood up into your head to make you smarter at altitude. I made that second part up. Or did I?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from warm and comfortable I have the capilene 4 and the capilene 4 hoody. I use the capilene 4 as a baselayer when I'm on the slopes, and I save the hoody as my baselayer when I'm walking around town. I figure my helmet keeps my head warm on the slopes, but walking around, if I don't want to have to carry a hat around, I can always rely on the hoody. This thing is great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'd rate it 4.5 if I could I really like this shirt, almost as much as I like the R1 hoody. The capilene 4 fabric I like better than the R1 for casual use, lounging around. The hood is great, double layer of material, smooth on the inside. This makes a really nice base layer. It's hard to complain by comparing this to the R1 because they are different products, but this shirt could be made better by being longer like the R1. The thumb loops on this are better than nothing but again the R1 is much better in that regard.
