The Patagonia Men's Better Sweater 3-in-1 Parka is a winter jacket that adjusts with the weather. The Parka includes two jackets, allowing you to adapt to the changing weather, regardless of if you're in the city or up at the cabin. First up, the parka-length, H2No® Performance Standard 2-layer shell, which will keep you dry in rain, sleet or snow. It's slightly longer length adds extra coverage, shielding your lower hip from a watery onslaught. Second is the tried and true fleece, there to keep you warm against frigid temperatures. It's soft and snuggly and even looks like your favorite sweater. Wear each jacket on their own, the shell in windy or wet situations and the fleece in dry, cold conditions, or pair them up when you're seeing all four.

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great, very warm The parka looks great and fits well. Only complaint is the sweater liner bunches up when putting parka on... It's fine once the sleeves are adjusted.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very warm great quality some issues I think the quality with Patagonia will always be there. Due to the liner being fleece and only attached by buttons, you have to slide the sleeve liner back inside the jacket every time you put it on with the liner attached to the jacket. That being said. I love the removable liner. Wish I bought the down version for a bit more $$$.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I like the coat but it could be better. Ok so it's a good warm coat. It's lacking a couple things. One it should have arm hole zippers to let it breathe on those days where it's just not that cold or at least grommets to help slightly. I know this is because of the liner but it would should still be an option. Second the sleeves of the better sweater are a little tight, just enough to to make getting the coat off with a long sleeve shirt on difficult. The body of the coat is roomy, almost too much so that if you don't have the liner in it just hangs. Needs waist band pull to help correct this. Long and short is I'm keeping it but if It was going to be my only coat like this I would choose one with more versatility.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and functional 5 foot 8, 170 lbs, athletic build. Medium is loose enough to wear a sweater under but not exuberantly baggy. Typical quality you'd expect from Patagonia. Soft layer comes out and can be worn solo in warmer temps. All around solid jacket.

would you recommend this 3 in 1 jacket for skiing?

Asked by: jakem
Thanks for the question! This Parka is waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It is also insulated, however the inner liner is just a polyester sweater. In addition, the hood is not helmet-compatible. Not sure how important of a feature that is to you or not. I would actually check out the 3-in-1 Snowshot Jacket. Not only is the hood helmet compatible - but it is also waterproof, breathable, has pit-zips and a powder skirt. I include a link below for you to check out. The Better Sweater Parka is an option, I just think it is more of a casual piece. Hope this helps!

Is this jacket good for below freezing temps? I'm worried fleece will not be warm enough. Would the Moosejaw Mt. Elliot insulated waterproof jacket keep me warmer? Thanks.

Asked by: DetroitROC
Hiya DetroitROC, thanks for the question! The Mt. Elliott is a super warm jacket, no doubt... but this is a good option too. The fleece Better Sweater is warmer than you think. I am often hesitant to throw a layer over my Beater Sweater for fear that I would get too warm! Getting warm is exactly the thing you want in freezing temperatures but I'm not sure if it would match the Mt Elliott jacket in terms of insulation and warmth. It depends on your preference... plus the wind, humidity, activity level, what else you are wearing, etc.. Hope this helps!
