The Patagonia Men's Better Sweater 1/4 Zip is a fleece pullover for casual outings and fall day hikes. As summer gives way to fall, slip into the comfortable regular fit fleece to ward off the cool, crisp air and enjoy the outdoors before hunkering down into winter. The sweater-like appearance looks right at home with your well-worn jeans while still looking clean enough for dinner in town. Pop open the 1/4 length zipper when the sun reaches its height and it'll be ready to pull back up once the temperature falls back down in the evening. A single chest pocket ensures your phone or a snack bar remain close, you never know when you gotta text your best bud or stave off the hunger before lunch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit! I bought this for a hiking trip and it was exactly what I needed to stay warm without any bulk. After many washings, it has retained its shape and size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool. Fun. Safe I purchased this sweater in black, after already owning the same sweater in red and a full zip Better Sweater in black. This sweater is fantastic for all seasons - summer nights, fall / spring days, and winter (with a coat on top!). It fits as expected (I am 6'2" 200lbs, and purchased a large), and is in line with other Patagonia products. It is definitely a trimmer, more modern look as opposed to the Synchilla Snap-T pullovers. Equally as comfortable, though. I wore it hiking in Northern Michigan in October and it was perfect for the cooler weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best 1/4 zip I own Patagonia makes some really amazing sweaters. This is by far the best one I own from them! I've used this sweater as a base layer in the winter as well as for work. I always get compliments while using it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality Love the Moose! Great price for a great product! It runs a little large around the sstomach area, but a quick wash should take care of that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels great, excellent quality I bought this a month ago. The material feels substantial, the stitching is well constructed and has extra stitching to ensure long lasting seams all around. The collar stands up and provides a nice comfy feeling. The chest pocket is functional and useful to hold a Samsung Galaxy S7. It has a subtle and classy look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great pullover fleece Bought this sweater fleece pullover in the summer so only have recently had a chance to wear it-it's very warm, the material is nice, and the fit is good. I'm a big Patagonia fan and this does not disappoint. Recommended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This really is a Better Sweater! A bought a second one of these for my son before he headed off to Scotland for the fall semester. He wore his first one constantly! Warm and looks great dressed up a bit with a collared shirt underneath as well as ultra casual outdoorsy. Best thing is the material, Impossible for my 20 year old to ruin in the laundry. I'll be buying a few more for Christmas!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable as they come! I bought it because I've always wanted a Patagonia quarterzip/jacket and it did not dissapoint! Sleeves are a little long, but in the cold weather you want to cover up as much as you can! Worth every penny!

Is there a Patagonia jacket that comes in XL tall?

Asked by: Lisa105
Thanks for the question! Unfortunately, Patagonia does not offer any jackets with a "tall" option. I do have an North Face Apex Bionic Jacket that comes in XL Tall. I included a link below for you to check out. Also, Carhartt offers a "tall" option for almost all of their jackets. Hope this helps a little!

What temperature range is this jacket good for?

Asked by: Emily
Hiya Emily, thanks for your question. This item doesn't have a temperature rating because warmth is really based personal preference, activity level, weather conditions and / or clothing layers, etc. For most people, the Better Sweater is a great mid-layer. It is warm fall or spring option, or if you layer with a good baselayer, it can be warm enough for mildly cold conditions. Additionally, it can we worn as a baselayer under a waterproof jacket in bad weather. It is a versatile piece overall. Hope this helps!

I'm looking to buy the quarter-zipphbeil as a gift for my son. He's 6'3'' and 150 pounds. Would the size M be long enough in the sleeves and torso?

Asked by: springthing
Hey there, Thanks for the question. Patagonia brand items tend to run a bit on the small side, especially in regards to length in the arms and torso, so I would definitely suggest sizing up to a Large for your son. In case you needed them, I have included the measurements for a size Medium below: Sleeve Length (Center Back to bottom) - 35" Center Front Length (from neck seam) - 24.75" Center Back Length (from neck seam) - 28" for the medium.

Does this pill? I got him something similar last year from Eddie Bauer and it pills HORRIBLY. Granted, he wears it pretty much everyday this time of year  like one would a coat. Pilling is a SERIOUS pet peeve

Asked by: MoMaS
Hiya MoMaS, thanks for the question! I haven't heard any complaints about this pullover pilling but I have seen it mentioned on a blog. I assume over time, it is a possibility but with proper care and washing, you shouldn't have a problem. It can be machine washed but I would take extra precautions and wash it on the gentle cycle and/or wash it inside a pillow case. Hope this helps!

Hiya Kendall, thanks for your question! Based on his description, I would recommend a size small or medium... depending on if he prefers a loose fit or plans to layer underneath it. Hope this helps!
