Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok for mild weather Meh, this is ok for blocking wind, but not so great for keeping warm. Was hoping for something to protect me better during my runs in the single digit weather, but this is more for the 20 degree days here in Michigan. It’s an alright product, just not exactly what I was looking for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded expectations First time balaclava purchase after having simply put up with a cold face during winter runs for years. What a difference! Although seemingly too thin to make much of a difference, it made all the difference in the world. A run in 7 degree weather for a first trial proved to be a welcome respite from my usual frozen face. I am a nasal breather so I simply pulled the lower facial portion down under my nose and off I went. Liked it so much I bought another for my wife. Even though I have a large head, fit was perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right! Perfect weight to keep warm under my helmet without becoming soggy or frozen, even with face shots in the pow. Not too tight over mouth, and easily pulled up or down while skiing. Low and unrestricting around the neck keeps out drafts. Very happy with this piece.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Breatheability This is a great ski mask. Thin but warm and very breatheable! I always am concerned that thin masks will not keep my face warm but this one has done the trick!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, functional Excellent fit, not too tight in anyway but snug enough to not get in the way. Fabric feels good next to skin. Will keep you warm and protected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality and speedy service I ordrered this last month, and received it much faster than i would have gotten it from Patagonia. Super nice piece- great quality compared to other balaclavas

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection I wear all the Cap 4 base layer items, from bottoms to top to beanie. Like all Cap 4 items, the balaclava does not disappoint. It's not to tight and not to loose. I get really hot, and Cap 4 keeps me warm while still being breathable enough that I can keep the items on and be comfortable throughout the day. Some say it appears see-through a bit. All Cap 4 is like that, that's what makes it so warm while also so breathable under your outerwear. Try it, you will never want to use another base layer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low profile, lightweight, with balanced warmth The new Patagonia Capilene 4 material is thin, breathable and slightly stretchy with a grid pattern of heavier insulation (think R1 with 1/2 the pile).,,,,One thing I have always disliked about balaclava is that my face usually ends up a mess of sweat, breath moisture, and runny nose. Far more often than not I need it to protect my face from direct wind rather than for insulation, yet every balaclava that I've used is the opposite and provides no breathability.,,,,This one on the other hand is highly breathable so no more sweat and breath moisture build up, and it succeeds at cutting down the wind exposure.
