Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great in all ways except length These pants are comfortable, stretchy, warm but not too warm, breathable, and durable. They worked well for glacier travel and bitter cold alpine starts on 6000m Mexican volcanos, keeping me comfortable from 2am through the heat f the day and providing good wind protection. I love the wide, adjustable waist and found the three pockets easily held quick-access snacks and cellphone. The fortified material at the ankle kept my crampons from puncturing the pants, and the hook at the front acted like a gaiter combined with my mountaineering boots. My one complaint is that the pants are about four inches too long and the extra material bags around the feet. They're far longer than all the other OR pants I own and don't seem to jive with the advertised 30" inseam. I am 5'4" 135lbs and I ordered the size small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ice climbing pants These are my first pair of "official" alpine pants and they do the job nicely. I've only used them once so far in the backcountry and they kept me dry, warm and comfortable. The material seems like it will hold up well with continued heavy use and it moves surprisingly well. Since they are just a shell, appropriate layering is crucial to making these pants work well. As far as sizing is concerned, I am 5'6" and 135 lbs. and a small fits perfectly. I initially bought a medium and they were way too big. The waist is adjustable if you are in between sizes but considering that these pants are already pretty heavy duty I'd go with the smallest practical size.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Ice climbing, slim, breathable and quick drying. These pants are terrific. I needed something that would protect me from the elements, was quick drying, and not bulky at all. These pants deliverer. I use these for ice climbing. These pants also have REAL and FUNCTIONAL pockets! They repel moisture but are not completely waterproof which is common with any softshell fabric, but when submersed in cold running water from a dripping ice climb they dry quick, keeping me warm and not freezing cold for the rest of the day. I would not use these pants for skiing since they don't have any insulation to speak of. I really like that they have a zipper up the leg and holes to attach a cord underneath your boot. I originally ordered the size small but had to return for an extra small. I am 5'2" 110lbs for reference. They fit great now except they are a little long, which is not a big deal since I always wear them with big bulky boots. Its unfortunate the sizing runs so big, I have many friends who are smaller than I am and would not be able to wear these at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Pants! I purchased these for snow sports (snowshoeing, snowmobiling, etc). They're my favorite pant! Super comfortable, warm and made with high quality materials. I'm 5'2, 117lbs and purchased a small. I can layer my fleece leggings under for extra warmth or go without. The tabs at the waist help since I have a slim torso. Also, the length is perfect for me but I do wish they offered different lengths to women more often. All around great item!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I wanted. I use these for bushwhack skiing and winter hiking in the rugged Salmon River canyon. They keep my warm and dry but are soft, breathable and quiet. I'm 128/5'6" and the M is perfect with some light long johns underneath. My husband said they look great too, that said, he is the only person around for miles!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice with room for improvement I do like the pants and will be wearing them as I climb Mt. Washington in two weeks. However, the waist sits low and in my opinion can be a few inches higher. If I'm active and bending over I don't need my rear-end exposed to anyone or to the elements. The waist tends to compete with a backpack hipbelt and gets pushed down thus letting cold air up the back and/or causing the pants to droop. I considered adding suspenders but that would make it more difficult when "nature calls." I wore them hiking for two days in a row and the pant seemed to stretch out enough that they started to sag. The pant legs are wider than they might appear in the picture so I became concerned they might begin to feel sloppy but didn't end up feeling that way after a 10 mile hike. (A lot of companies seem to be narrowing in the pant legs with enough room at the bottom to fit around a mountaineering boot.) I was able to wear a Smartwool NTS 250 baselayer under them to keep me warm on my hike in 3 degree weather today. Outdoor Research is one of the only companies that makes larger sizes that actually fit those of us who are need to wear larger sizes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome pants i love these pants - they fit me well, especially with the adjustable waistband, and they're durable enough for everything i've thrown at them so far. great products deserve great reviews - all i have to say, though, is that if you're a lady looking for a rugged, versatile, bomber pair of pants that will get you up and down mountains while keeping you dry and comfy, these are it. way to go OR!

From the reviews, these sound sized. Would you confirm this for the XL? I can sometimes wear an XL, but lately the sizing seems to err smaller and smaller. I also need a reasonable rise, not a fashionably short rise.

Asked by: mercuryhg
Hiya mercuryhg, thanks for your question! I've heard that this pant runs true-to-size. There is a link to a helpful size chart located in the lower right corner of the drop down size menu. Hope this helps!
