Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love this jacket. It is very lightweight. Buy 1 size larger. Love the lightweight breathable warmth of this jacket, especially the fleece interior and roomy hoody. The size is actually too small and tight if bought in your true size, so you should make it with more room in the underarms and sleeves to fit better and true to size, or tell people to buy a size larger. Would love a bit more water repellency without sacrificing the breathability. Would really like zippered pockets!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Winter biking jacket I've been searching for a water/wind resistant, lightweight, warm biking jacket for commuting this winter. When I received the Ascendant jacket, it seemed way too light to do its job. However this morning I used it on a 40 degree, somewhat windy commute and I am sold. This piece kept me warm as a marshmallow without overheating. On really wet days I plan to layer a rain shell over it. I can definitely see myself using this for winter hikes as well - it's always nice to have a versatile jacket for more than one type of activity. Nice job OR!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go for all with a do it all! There are few jackets like this that have a tough shell with light insulation. If I had to grab just one jacket to go, this would be it! Hopefully OR will make this in more colors soon!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pack less and use this for everything! What a snuggly, versatile layer! I seriously put it on when I received it in August and didn't take it off for months. I've worn it as my outer layer at 10,000 feet during hot summer days/nights, with a tank and an Echo hoody underneath and the Helium jacket for emergencies and was surprised that I was sufficiently warm. It allowed me to trade off a midlayer and light puffy for this layer, saving space and weight in my pack. I only have a few small wishes for the next version of this piece, which with OR's amazing ability to iterate on their products, I'm sure some of these things will get addressed. For example, while the pockets are super comfy for dumping my hands in, they don't zip and it doesn't have the OR-signature stuff the layer in the pocket and clip to the harness feature. There is a zip breast pocket, however, so I just put things that I can't afford to lose in that pocket. Also, the size is a little baggy. If you're in between sizes, try sizing down (but try on to be sure it's not too tight around shoulders and armpits). For example, a medium fits me perfectly in the Transition and Deviator hoodies but is a bit baggy for the Ascendant. And lastly the awesome wind-proof, water-resistant outer fabric seems to pick up dirt pretty easily, leaving me to wash the garment more than other mid/outer layers. If you find you're washing it a bunch, use Nikwax waterproofing spray to rejuvenate this water resistance-don't wash it in or you'll add that to the soft inner fuzzy layer as well. All in, it's a fabulous piece and I'd definitely recommend it! I should add that I love that this piece doesn't have the warm fuzzy fabric under the arms, making it a layer I can wear longer while performing activities before I want to throw it off in a heated panic like most other warm layers. The sea/atlantis color is flattering for both mountain wear and mountain life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a GREAT jacket This is a great light layer. it is comfortable against my skin and easy to pull another bulkier layer over the top of it. I also love the new OR colors. Win/Win. (Oh, my only improvement would be zip pockets - I can't put anything in pockets that don't zip while out in the wild. Thanks OR.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best fitting piece of outerwear I've ever purchased This is the best clothing purchase I have made so far this year. I am always so disappointed by most outerwear, because it is cut so poorly! I am tall (5'10"), and relatively lean...but I am still a solid Medium in most things. This is the first jacket I have ever purchased that is slim fitting, but also has long enough arms, and room to move around and be active. Most Medium jackets I purchase are way too generous in the torso width. I have worn this every day since receiving it, and I can't wait to skin/ski in it all winter!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wear ALL the time I love this jacket for multiple reasons. It's super lightweight and kind of replaces the micro-puff for me. . . I have both the Ascendant Jacket and the Hooded Ascendant- but are great- but I do take the hood more times than no hood. . . it's just nice to flip up the hood in the wind or a drizzle without digging for a beanie. It's a great ski layer that compresses really well with higher breathability than a puffy, but it does provide impressive warmth. I wouldn't say it's water or wind PROOF... but it has water resistance and definite wind protection. I've used it for touring in bad weather multiple times and it's a GREAT touring layer. I have also notably washed and dried it many MANY times and it still looks/ feels/ performs the same... it's a sweet layer. The Ascendant collection is much warmer than you think, but they're breathable as well.
