Rated 5 out of 5 by from The layer I keep grabbing This is the layer I just keep grabbing! I bought it on a whim when on sale and now I can't imagine not having it. Trail running in cold wind or light rain, mountain biking, hiking it's just that layer that you need. Note the sleeves are long, I love it because I have long arms. I have a 43" torso with 37" arms and the XL fits perfectly. Packs into the chest pocket so easy to throw in your pack/bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The piece I've been missing! This hoodie is almost weightless, yet it is very effective at blocking the wind. This jacket allows me to wear a lighter mid layer underneath as I don't need to compensate for heat-robbing drafts. It's feels good to travel light! I've been fat biking with it already and it's perfect for this. I also plan to use it when skate skiing on windy days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Go-To layer in the lid of my pack The Whirlwind hoodie was such a find for me as a go-to layer in the mountains or on the trail. I warm up fast during an approach or on a steady upward trail and when the wind comes up or the temperature drops, the Whirlwind comes out and allows me to maintain my effort without overheating. The garment is so light and flexible that only the color reminds me that it's there. In cold but active conditions, the Whirlwind excels; with a light down shirt or a heavyweight pile shirt underneath the hoodie, I can make the moves, struggle up a cold, shaded off-width, or push myself on a long, exposed summit ridge and stay warm as I go and when I get there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome layer I took this up to the bugaboos and I did the cathedral traverse with this as my only layer. I did it with the thought of me needing to be light and fast and that my jacket needs to breathe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great summer soft shell Great wind shell, stretchy for movement, light and breathable. Been using as soft shell for alpine rock routes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Go-to summer active layer This is my next step up from my echo hoody. When there is too much wind, rain, or cold for a base layer alone, but not so much you're willing to sacrifice mobility and breathability, this hoody fills the gap, with a touch of extra weather resistance and warmth. Great for high-output activities in the 30s to 50s, like bagging peaks, night hiking, and winter bouldering. The breathability also makes this jacket comfortable in your sleeping bag, and the chest pocket great for drying out liners, or socks while you sleep. My only complaints are that it would be nice to have two pockets to make the jacket more effective at drying socks/liners while you sleep, and that 8-9oz is only a 4 oz weight savings over a heavy duty soft shell, like the ferrosi jacket. It seems like mixing patches of less stretchy but lighter fabric in could get the weight down further without sacrificing performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Essential Climbing Tool As essential of a climbing tool as my helmet or my harness...this goes with me on every mission, from Alpine Missions in RMNP to Sport Climbing in Rifle to Local Bouldering. I did A TON of research on one pullover / hoodie / jacket to rule them all...something light weight yet warm...wind proof and semi water resistant...durable enough to rub on the most heinous offwidths or chimneys...and ball up small into a pocket. This is what I settled on and it's been exactly what I was looking for. Thanks OR!
