Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to pants! These are my go to pants for anything outside of summertime use. I use them to snowshoe during the winter. Have summited both baker and rainier while wearing them. They keep me warm and dry. When it gets warm the vent zips on the side are incredible! I recommend these to anyone who spends any amount of time in the snow. They stretch. They breathe. They vent. The only thing I wish was different was if they added the waterproof material to the butt as well. And maybe a couple more pockets but not a necessity. Overall my most favorite pants I own

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for what they're designed for Reviews for the trailbreakers seem to be all over the place. I was looking for a pair of snowshoeing pants and bought these. I also have a hard time sizing for pants since I'm always between a small or medium, so hopefully I can shed some light for somebody in the same situation. Initial Impressions/Concerns: I personally think the two tone look between the waterproof lower and softshell upper look a little stupid in the picture (on the black specifically). I bought these in black and they don't look that "bad" in person, they look pretty much like one color. You can tell, but it doesn't look as different in the picture. I was also worried that these would be super baggy. I was looking for more of a regular pair of pants for winter hiking/snowshoeing as opposed to bulky ski/snowboard pants. These aren't nearly as baggy as they appear in the picture. The bottom seems to flair out just a little with a boot cut, but it's not bad. Also, there is a cinch cord that helps control that a little if you're looking to tighten the cuff up. Fit: I'm 5'8" - 160 lbs. with a true 33" waist with a 30" inseam. I wear everything from a 30" - 32" waist from various clothing companies. It's honestly unhelpful when people say "I'm a 32x32 in jeans" Well, from who? Levi's? Old Navy? They all have different interpretations of size to make you feel better about your waistline. Anyways, I almost always fall on a 31" waist from most clothing companies with an actual 33" waist. With that being said, the small trailbreakers were a little too tight for me. I could put them on ok, but they were a little snug in the thighs and I certainly wouldn't be able to layer with them. The mediums fit me much better. They are a hair loose in the waist, but the velcro cinch allows me to get them to fit perfect. Performance: The leg zips for heat dumping are awesome. I've only overheated once during a pretty rigorous climb and that's because I was an idiot. My base layer was way too heavy. With a lightweight base layer, I've worn these in 10* up to 37*. I've stayed very comfortable and when it's a little warmer, the zips allow me to continue to stay comfortable. As far was being waterproof, they work as advertised. Below the knee is waterproof and above is water resistant. I went snowshoeing in the pouring rain for about 3-4 hours last weekend and my upper thighs got a little damp. The upper material fought the rain for about 30-45 minutes, but eventually succumbed to the rain. Overall, an awesome pair of pants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Pants Lots of features for ski touring, I especially like the beacon pocket, much easier to stow in pocket vs. harness under clothing. The vents are good, I run hot and have gotten sunburned on my legs with the thigh vents open. The sizing is a little odd, I am 6'4" 195 and appear to be between sizes, if I get the 32 they are too short/a little tight and the 34 is really baggy also still a little short, I have to adjust the waist as far as it will go to hold up the pants especially when pockets are loaded with gear (I dont like suspenders). The only other comment is that I like the pockets on the back of the legs they are also good for venting, just confused why one is horizontal and the other is vertical. Also love the ankle cuff vents, you can get good airflow up your legs when you roll up the cuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Love love love my Trail breakers. Wore them 2 days on Mt. Washington and they were super comfortable and fully functional. I'm 5'7" athletic build the medium fit nicely over a midweight base layer. Usually a 30/31" waist in jeans and a 30" in the Ferrosi pant.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Love/Hate relationship I've used these pants about a dozen times on day trips in the Cascades while ski touring. I'm 6'0 and 175lbs, and I normally wear 32/32. I found these pants very frustrating to size- the mediums fit my waist line, but were too short and a little too constricting in the thighs. I ended up with a pair of Larges, which are long enough and fit my thighs, but are too baggy in the waist and the included suspenders are too large as well. Love: Overall pretty comfortable -Great ventilation from the side zips -Lots of pockets -Plenty of room to layer underneath for overnight trips -Best application is for bluebird days or days with cold dry snow. Hate: As soon as any wet snow starts to fall (or rain), they soak through pretty fast (especially the uppers), Even the lower "waterproof" layers soak through in wet heavy snow. -Sizing is frustrating.- I wish there were more colors offered. Overall, if you can get the correct sizing and don't use them in wet conditions, these are awesome pants.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Zippers poor quality I had purchased these to use for backcountry and area skiing. I have many OR items and they are excellent quality. This is the first item that is far below OR quality standard. I wore these Trailbreaker pants for BC skiing 3 times and lift skiing 3 times. On the 5th time, the ankle zippers broke. Reading the reviews, I knew this was a possibility. The other main issue is the hand pocket zippers do NOT stay zipped. I constantly find them unzipped after a run, making them totally unusable. They are also not waterproofed like the others. Sizing - I am a solid Medium in all OR (tops & bottoms 32waist). These fit great everywhere except they are too snug in the crotch. This is the last thing you want for a ski pant. I am definitely not a large so this is apparently due to the design. There are no other OR pants that will work for BC skiing (others are wide leg and heavy) so unfortunately I have to search for another brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Most excellent BC ski pants I have had these pants for two seasons now and the medium fits great (155 lbs, 5'9"). I owned an earlier version of the pants where the beacon pocket zipper stitching unwound. Although I ignored it for a while, snow would collect in the open pocket and it would catch on things. Fortunately, OR has a fantastic return program and took them back, giving me this newer updated version. I use them on nearly all but the hottest BC ski trips, and they work great with or without tights underneath. Although a good idea, I don't use the suspenders as I find the velcro is hard on the OR Radiant hoody I wear on top (abraiding or piling the fabric). Having non-velcro suspenders would easily make these 5 star pants.
