Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great rain jacket Great rain jacket, packs away nice and light, ready for those heavy rain falls. Fit wasn't the way I wanted though. Personally like a slimmer fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect all around mid level Rain shell! This jacket is the perfect "general purpose" hard shell jacket. It is basic an minimalistic and it still gets the job done. I would say the only obvious con I have is that it isn't super breathable but for its value it is an excellent buy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Durable Jacket I bought this jacket for my primary rain gear, and it has stood up well over the last two years. The hood and collar work well to keep rain off my head, and they can go over a baseball hat easily. The hood strap allows me to cinch around my cap and keep it all snug, even in windy situations. True, the material is not breathable. However, I have used this jacket for long runs in various weather (including as an outer layer in snowstorms) and the side zips are huge and allow for openings from either direction - so that gives me some more comfort control.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dang. My first OR product I didn't love. I wanted to love this jacket. I love my other OR gear - you can pry my Voodoo pants and my Exit hoody (among other things) from my cold, dead hands. But I returned the Horizon jacket after using it twice. I returned it because it is NOT breathable, like seriously at all. The video made it look like the perfect breathable waterproof jacket for hiking "and even climbing" (direct quote from the video). It's billed as waterproof AND breathable. But after my first hike in this jacket (7 miles), I was kind of shocked when I took it off and discovered that the entire inside was literally coated in dripping water. My light fleece layer that I had on underneath was so wet I could have wrung water out of it. And this was with the hem-to-pit zips open. This does not happen, in any conditions, with my cheap Columbia jacket that I was trying to replace, or even with my slightly nicer running jacket that's waterproof and doesn't even have great ventilation. I was super disappointed in the lack of breathability. Then, when I went to return it, the guy at the retail store basically told me I'd bought the wrong jacket for what I need it for. Sorry, OR, but if your video and marketing bill this jacket as a great breathable waterproof jacket for energy-expending activities like backpacking and climbing, it's sort of lame that your salesman made me feel stupid for buying it for those exact purposes. Other than all that, the jacket is well-made, sturdy, the hood adjustments are great, and it has all the other quality features you'd expect from an OR product. It's not going to put me off OR products, but I'm surprised at the level of fail on the breathability of this jacket. Sorry, OR. I'm still a fan though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good jacket, good pricing I bought the Horizon Jacket this spring for intended use during the summer. After several months of owning, I am ready to review it. First, the jacket is very stylish and good looking. The material on the outside is somewhat resistant, a lot thicker than Helly Hansen's competing "Loke" jacket. The fabric is definitely waterproof and windproof, some breathability is experienced but is severely limited by the lack of Pit Vents. Pit vents have become standard on jackets now a days. Their omission on the Horizon seriously limits the range of temperature and activity it can be used for, especially if you wear a fleece insulation layer below it. To be clear, even standing completely still in cool spring temperatures with a fleece underneath, I would sweat. Side zips have their utility but were of no use since the only area I was wet was in the armpit. Overall a good jacket, very close to greatness should OR fix and add pit zips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket at a great price This review is about the Panorama jacket, the predecessor of the Horizon -so I assume it will apply to the the Horizon as well. I bought the Panorama specifically for a hike down BCメs Hesquiat Peninsula ヨ a rocky coastline hike with only rough, almost bushwhack trails over the few headwall sections ヨ some of which are so thick that it requires movement on your hands and knees. To put the hike in perspective 6,000 + people do Canadaメs famous West Coast Trail each year; 80-90 do the Hesquiat Peninsula and access to the start at Escalante Point is usually by float plane. Coastal hikes during the summer can range from warm, cloudless days to driving ムsoutheasterヤ rains. The ventilation system of both the Panorama and my newer Horizon is first rate ヨ rain protection without cooking inside. The ability to have the front of the jacket over your packメs waist band is a great feature and allows for rain protection of small items carried on the waist band i.e. cameras and in my case, an emergency VHF radio. When stopping for a rest or food beak it is easy to close up the sides and keep the wind out to avoid chilling. The pockets are roomy and held my hiking gloves and snacks easily. I liked the jacket so much I bought another right after the hike. I hadnメt intended to buy another quite as quickly but I managed to lose the Panorama jacket on the last day of our hike. Likely snagged in one of the overland quasi- bushwhacks. I was so plesaed with the Panorama that on my return home I immediately ordered the Horizon as I was going on another 5-day hike about four weeks later. As chance would have it a group doing the hike a few days later found the first jacket and it has subsequently been returned to me ヨ so now I have two. One can never have too many good hiking jackets.
