The Outdoor Research Men's Helium II Jacket is an ultralight waterproof jacket for emergencies on the trail and rock. The Helium II is made with Pertex Shield+ DS 2.5L, a nylon 30D ripstop with a clear laminate. This fabric allows the jacket to pack down super small, into its own chest pocket. Weighing in at an average of 6.4oz (size large), you’ll hardly notice it stowed away in your pack or clipped to your harness. The waterproof jacket protects you from unexpected rain and harsh winds so you won’t have to cut your trip short. The elastic cuffs, adjustable hood, and drawcord hem keep the fabric close to your body to prevent drafts and leakage. Outdoor adventures are much more enjoyable when you’re able to stay dry during unfortunate weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome waterproof jacket for cyclist in Pacific Northwest! I bought this jacket mainly to see how it would work out as a cycling commuting jacket during the wet spring and fall weather here in Seattle. I commute most days to work: Weather in the spring and fall in the Pacific Northwest can best be described as pretty wet, cold and windy. My current bike jacket is an old jacket with EVent waterproof fabric that has lost its waterproofness. I wanted a lightweight jacket during the spring/fall seasons that had good waterproofness and breathability. I've heard awesome things about OR's Helium II jacket and wanted to give it a try. I recently experienced a commute with a typical Seattle "downpour". I was actually praying for rain so I could test the waterproof ability of the Helium II jacket. Here are the details: one way- 9 miles with about 400 feet elevation gain each way through downtown. Temp: 52 degrees. Wind speed 16 mph (tailwind). Waterproof: As you can see from the pictures, the water was beading up on the jacket perfectly. The only area where it "wetted out" was where my backpack straps was touching my shoulders. When I got home, I touched the inside portion of the "wetted out" area, and it was completely dry! It rained for the entire ride home and I remained dry throughout. Rain was blowing in sideways and there was no penetration! Breathability: it was 52 degrees plus I had a nice tailwind so I was not exerting too much energy. However, I ride fast and also have to go up a big hill with nasty side winds. Despite this, I had no issues with sweating from the inside. I will need to see how this jacket breathes during different conditions. Aerodynamics: I folded the hood inside the jacket so it would not catch the wind. Aside from this, the jacket was fine. Conclusion: Awesome jacket for cyclist needing a lightweight, waterproof jacket that exceeded my expectations!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome backpacking rain coat I work in Olympic National Park where it rains...just a bit. This coat has been a fantastic addition to my gear. Turns down a torrential rainstorm keeping you dry and cruising along on the trail. Pair it with the helium ll pants and even the wettest conditions won't phase you. Super lightweight and you can just throw it in the pack when not needed and forget it's even there. Awesome coat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Fit The fit of this jacket is absolutely amazing. I can't get over how well the pits are made. Most jackets feel super awkward when you lift your arms over your head, but the Helium II is built like a dream. It also weighs next to nothing and folds itself up into a neat little pouch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have! This is my second Helium jacket. It will follow me all the time as the first one did too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Emergency Shell This is my go-to Multi-pitch emergency layer. Jacket packs up small enough to hang from my harness while climbing, and does a great job blocking wind and rain, which inevitably comes out of no where on Multi-pitch climbs. Teal and Red colorway is really nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm a XL but ordered a 2X - fits perfext I love this shell and it is super lightweight and comfortable. I am an XL and did read before buying it runs slim/tight. I ended up ordering the 2XL and glad I did. It allows me to layer a nice fleece underneath without being tight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for warm or cool rainy days I really like this jacket. I've already used it as a go to jacket for warmer and cooler rainy days. I wish it had pockets. Love how light and storable it is. Plan to take it with me on most trips.
