The Outdoor Research Men's Helium II Jacket is an ultralight waterproof jacket for emergencies on the trail and rock. The Helium II is made with Pertex Shield+ DS 2.5L, a nylon 30D ripstop with a clear laminate. This fabric allows the jacket to pack down super small, into its own chest pocket. Weighing in at an average of 6.4oz (size large), you’ll hardly notice it stowed away in your pack or clipped to your harness. The waterproof jacket protects you from unexpected rain and harsh winds so you won’t have to cut your trip short. The elastic cuffs, adjustable hood, and drawcord hem keep the fabric close to your body to prevent drafts and leakage. Outdoor adventures are much more enjoyable when you’re able to stay dry during unfortunate weather.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from dwr is a joke big disappointment. bought this jacket 8 months ago because of all the good feedback, the dwr seems to be completely gone by now. this is a joke ive worn it maybe 10 times and took great care since its super expensive. yeah i could retreat it but that cost a lot of money and effort too. would not buy again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lighten the Load Good to have rain gear that is so lightweight. The Helium II is perfect for those flash storms in the mountains that are generally short lived. Fits well but I will say its somewhat of an athletic cut (which is a plus). Well made jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent so far So far I have worn this jacket on a ground search and rescue exercise and last night I tried it out sailing. It fits the bill as VERY lightweight, breathable and waterproof. When I saw the size of the pocket that it stuffs itself into, I thought there is no way that any jacket could possibly fit in that. However, I just started randomly stuffing it in and it fit without any great effort at all. As lightweight as it is, it has kept me dry and broken the wind nicely. I was afraid that it wouldn't hold up to the light bushwhacking I've done with it but so far so good. More time will tell before I say more on durability but most people would not drag a new jacket through what I put it through anyways. It's not a big enough issue to make it lose a star but a suggestion would be that the zipper on the pocket that becomes the stuff sack be one where the handle flips around to operate inside out. Currently you can't close the zipper in stuff sack mode, but the jacket seems to stay inside it anyways inside my pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It really really works This rain cover is great except that you sweat because it's so waterproof. It works great, snowed on me during Memorial Day packing up to the big pines lakes and I stayed dry from the outside. Also got soaked from the inside because it traps the sweat in. So it's a win, lose, win. You don't get wet from the elements but you do get sweat soaked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OR does it again. First thing first, this jacket makes a great biking or running jacket. The jacket arrived, I was skeptical because of how lightweight and pack-able it was, but it delivered. This jacket is great for when you don't want to bring a heavy coat with you, will keep you dry in most conditions, would highly recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Lightweight Protection From the Elements I really love this jacket. The pack size is impressive for it's ability to protect you from rain and wind. The downside to this is thin material, but it's not weak. I wouldn't climb a chimney in it, but for long days out it fits nicely into a backpack or on your harness. The hood is clutch and fits really well, even with a helmet on. Unfortunately the waist doesn't sit as nice when wearing a helmet, but hey, nothings perfect, and for what this jacket is meant to be it comes pretty darn close to being perfect. The only other con is the shoulders are a bit tight in certain positions, but the zippers, hood, packability and weight are clutch. Well done OR.

I'm about 6,3" at 175lbs is it better to go with L or M?  I'm worried L might be too baggy but M might not have long enough of sleeves

Asked by: ap 2
We keep meeting in this strange corner of the internet, Ap Coworker here is 6' (but 195lbs) - athletic build. He said the sleeves are great on the jacket (he bought a large) but the torso kind of comes up short on him when he raises his arms. The large is not terribly bulky, but he is able to wear a close cut fleece under it, but not a puffy. He's got 20 pounds on you, though, so it would be a bit more billowy. I would just be concerned about the torso length not working out for you in this case. Unless you can see to it that you NEVER raise your arms again - then it will be great!
