Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Coat I needed to replace my old Mountain Hardware "puffy" that I have had for years. This is an amazing coat. We just had one of the worst, coldest, windiest blizzards in New Hampshire and this coat was perfect. The wind-proofing kept me very comfortable in the high winds, the water-proofing kept me dry in the blinding snow and the adjustable hood fit perfect keeping my head very warm indeed. This is a GREAT coat and well worth the money. I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great jacket, very warm. Awesome jacket feels like it runs a bit large. I have several OR jackets in large and this one seems bigger.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleasantly surprised I got this a replacement for an old virtuoso when it's zipper blew out. I was a little bummed at first to not be able to replace the virtuoso but I have been pleasantly surprised with the Floodlight. Hopefully I can address some previous reviews which made me nervous about the purchase. First off, in my opinion it doesn't sound like a "doritos" bag. It sounds like any other upper end rain jacket and is actually quieter than my helium shell. It's a little more crinkly than a normal puffy but nothing that is noticeable. I haven't used it in a downpour yet (also I don't plan to, because...rain jackets) but it has shed light rain and snow just fine. With a thermal, and a lightweight down midlayer I have been perfectly fine in temps down to -10F while standing around. The double zip is great for belaying and the wire sewn into the hood is pure genius. The shell is also burly and I think will hold up much better than my past puffy. I do wish it had a Napoleon pocket for cell phone, power bank, or headlamp when in cold conditions but I can always stash those in a mid-layer. I usually always keep a small OR 5L stuff sack in my breast pocket for stuffing it while using it as a belay coat but I do miss the ability to stuff it in its own pocket. I am 5'10", 135lbs and the small fit me perfectly. It has enough length in the arms that they don't expose my wrists when the arms are raised and back of the jacket still goes down to about mid-butt. I can still fit a down mid-layer and baselayer under the jacket without being restricted.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OK but overpriced The thing is lightweight, reasonably close to windproof and water repellant (but, as I learned at a football game, very far short of waterproof). The biggest failing though is that it is simply not warm as the manufacturer skimped on insulation especially in the back part. If you are looking for something to wear in in windy conditions with light moisture, this is a very fine choice but at any temperature below 30 degrees, you will definitely want something more substantial than this thing. For instance, I wore it today in 10 degree weather and was definitely wishing I had grabbed something more substantial. For almost $400, I guess that I expected more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again So far I've just been out walking around in mid-teen to lower 20s weather wearing nothing but a t-shirt underneath and I've been fine. My buddy turned me on to this and I like this jacket a lot so far.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice idea, questionable execution I like the idea of a very light and warm water resistant jacket that can be packed small, but this didn't quite work out. I had a little worry about the glued seams when I bought this jacket. I thought it was a nice touch not to have stitched through seams between the down pockets, but the glued internal baffles blew out after two seasons of not very heavy use. Though it is designed to be used with a backpack, and I used mine relatively often with a daypack, it was the seams in back that blew out, probably due to "shear forces" from the backpack. There wasn't much down in the back anyway (on purpose, I think -- that's another issue), but all of it fell to the bottom once the baffles failed. So now it doesn't keep my back warm at all. One other thing: the pockets are located too high to be comfortable.

Is this the 2017 updated version or the older version? If so what's the difference

Asked by: Floodlight Researcher
Thanks for the question! As of today, this is the Fall 2016 version. The 2017 version will not be available until next Fall, so I can't say for sure what the differences will be. They are usually minimal -such as a zipper or pocket chance. Sometimes the only difference is the color options. I hope this helps a little.
