Rated 4 out of 5 by from Didn't fit me, but sweet jacket. Unfortunately this jacket didn't fit me . Im 5'10 170 lbs. tried the medium first, as I've worn OR mediums and never had a fit problem with any other product in the past. Tighter than I'd like in the waist, but too tight in the shoulders and elbows with arm articulation, so a deal breaker. OR exchanged for a large, but that was too big in the chest, and too long in general. So returned that too. I spent an embarrassingly long time researching the perfect quiver killer winter coat. This is somewhere between the OR incandescent (which I own and really like) and a down sweater weight. This jacket hits every mark for a midweight puffy, just an odd fit. If it fits you, you won't be disappointed. Plus kudos to the OR customer service team, they are the best in the biz.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great thermal layer I haven't put it through its paces yet but so far I've used it as an inner and outer layer; awaiting the winter season and then see how it does on a climb or two - would post back if my opinion changes. Fit is as expected, I'm 6 foot and about 160 pounds, the medium fits well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Belay Puffy I stick this coat in the category of a cross between a belay parka and an alpine puffy. I love it. The fit is primo, especially the hood! Why haven't more companies figured out how a great hood fits? It's warm, it leans towards for-fitting and every feature gets two big thumbs up from me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It As others have noted, it has a slimmer fit, but its slight form-factor makes it perfect for layering over (soft/hard shell, etc.). On the other hand, I'm 6', 185lbs. and the medium fits me perfectly. I'm a bit soft in the midsection, so the fill compresses a little when I pack layers beneath it, but there is no pulling of the fabric/stitching. Still, if you plan to layer a lot, or are a between-sizer, the large would still fit slimmer than most medium puffers. I noticed cold spots when I first put it on in 35 degree weather, but I do not notice any now, after regular wearing. I suspect that giving it a good shake upon purchase would help eliminate any threat of cold spots. Also, the gusseting and longer arms help reduce lifting and exposure around belly or wrists. All that said, it's an amazing jacket: comfy, warm, more durable than the average pure pertex quantum, light, packable, great attention to detail (love the wrist closures -- hook-and-loop as well as elastic), hand warmer pockets. Love it. Oh, and it's stylish/flattering, which is a plus.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket but not the burly belay jacket you may be looki I love this jacket. I've used it in many settings from wilderness winter camping in Ontario to wet and humid belays in the PNW. The fit is fantastic (im 6'1, 150lbs) the medium was great for me with room for extra layers underneath. They say standard fit but it feels closer to a slim fit I found. The hood is large and roomy, accepting a helmet as if it were a close friend. I appreciated the sympathetic insulation when moving around in wet snow. Stuff sack pocket is a useful addition and makes for easy transportation up a climb if need be. Arms are nice a long which is great and the cuffs are bomber. Sometimes the bottom pocket zippers require two hands to close when fully open but that is a minor issue. Biggest issue for me was that it wasn't the the burly belay coat I wanted when things get artic. On really cold days, I'd want something that's a little more beefy. All and all a great multipurpose piece that works well on its own or under a shell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This the love of kittens! Fit: I am about 6' 160lbs with a semi-athletic build. I love the trim fit in the torso area, it is so rare to find a jacket that doesn't feel like maternity clothes. If you got a beer belly, you will have a lot of other options for you, so let us fit guys have this one. The arms are long enough and wide enough for layering without a restrictive feel. I also really like how far the hem goes, I am not exposing my back when bending over. Aesthetics: I do wish there were more color options, aesthetically it is kinda a ugly jacket too me.but the dual colored zippers makes up for this! Function: This jacket pretty much checks most the boxes. Warm, packable, durable, light, double separating zippers, enough pockets, very weather resistant, easy to layer under and over. The insulation used gives me more confidence in not dying in damp weather like in the PNW. There isn't any looseness to the jacket to catch on stuff either. It isn't the warmest jacket out there, nor the most wind resistant (due to sewn through baffles), the hood is okay'ish (wouldn't mind a non-hooded version) or even the lightest.. But the features defiantly make the diode distinct in which demographic it is meant for. (mountain guides, SAR, or other outdoor professionals) Overall, I love this jacket, many of you fit guys will too! If you favor function and fit over fashion, then the Diode is worth checking out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great jacket, but fit is too trim for beacon First things first: I am a 5'9" 175 lb 50 year old father of 2 weekend warrior with the body that goes along with it (not trim). That said, other medium jackets from OR (Ferrosi, Cathode) fit just fine, even with my beacon on. I can't zip this jacket closed wearing my beacon. The fit is definitely trim, even though the description says standard. That's a real bummer, because otherwise it seems fantastic. I love the idea of hybrid insulation, and the fabric feels great. Unfortunately I bought it as an overlayer to throw on during rest breaks or winter camping but it is cut much too tight for my use. I might try a large, but i think the sleeves will likely be too long.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Piece, specific fit I've been using the Diode for a little while now and it's the perfect weight for most lower 48 winter days but it you're looking for part of a bivy kit, you might want to go heavier. I'm 6' 160, have a slightly positive ape index and was suprised that the size Medium that I ordered has sleeves that are almost a little long. Aside from that, it's an athletic fit that doesn't offer a ton of room for layering underneath, but you could get away with wearing it under a larger shell in wetter climates. Great piece of gear but definitely worth trying on if you're not sure about fit.
