The Osprey Porter 46 Pack is a carry-on backpack for airplane travel. The Porter 46 blends backpack with luggage, providing the padding and support you need to carry your gear while compressing down just like a regular suitcase. The StraightJacket™ wings are padded to protect your stuff and cinch it down for stabilizing the load. When you get to the plane, the harness and hipbelt stow away, for simple storage in the overhead bin. The main section is panel load, opening wide for dumping in all your clothing, while the front zippered section secures tablet, pens, pencils, and even your phone. The Porter is so much more than a backpack.

FEATURES of the Osprey Porter 46 Pack

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Recommended for Backpacking Highly recommend this pack! I used it for 40 days in Europe and comfortably fit everything I could need. It was awesome, and if you're looking for a backpack to use on a long trip, stop looking and get this one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great Looks like it will work well for stuffing in the overhead bin despite its size. I plan on traveling more in places where I don't wont to check. The company indicates that a Daylite day pack will attach on the cord loops. My biggest question is will the Daylite Plus + attach? And does anyone have feedback on this option?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not carry on Bag is listed as carry on size of 22 x 14 x 9. But actual size is 23 x 15 x 11. Bag is too tall and wide. 22 x 14 x 9 is Carry on size for delta, American, United, jet blue, Cathy Pacific, Aeromexico, Air Asia, Bangkok Air, China Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Qantas, and Alligent Airlines. Bag is 1 inch to tall and 1 inch to wide. If you are asked to put luggage in luggage sizer like my self who has been asked by airline staff; this bag will need to be checked with an extra cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Osprey 46 I've been traveling for a month and a half with the osprey porter 46. I had no problems using it as my carry on luggage. The pack has neat features and plenty of pouches. I've carried for 30+ minutes and my back was still decent. I overpacked with how much items I'm able to carry in here. Great pack, would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Pack is Beyond Belief! Well, I bought this pack for my Eurotrip! I needed one that was carry-on like (without the little wheels) and that was comfortable enough to carry in the back. Among all the brands that I looked I preferred Osprey, and this one in particular. The way you can reach the inside, and all that you can fit in there is amazing! also, the side organizers and the external pockets for the laptop, papers, power-banks (and all of them are inside those great side protectors, where the zippers are hidden). Then, you take the backpack in the shoulders and you don't even notice that you are carrying about 12 kilograms, as the straps distribute all the weight. Finally, the fact that you can hide the straps and use the pack as a "duffelbag" is great, so you can protect them when sending it as a registered luggage in the planes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bag, nice color The bag is definitely of high quality, compared to other bags of the same capacity, this one seems to be able to store more stuff so that's great. The size is perfect because you don't have to check it when you travel if you don't want to. I used this to hike the Inka Trail and the only problem I had was not having a side pocket for a water bottle or something like. Other than that, the bag is sleek and of great quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for travel Bought this pack because my brother had it traveling abroad and said it was great.Tried it out myself and fell in love with it. Very roomy, fits as a carry on perfectly, compression straps help to compact it down which is nice

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack for traveling I bought this backpack a month ago to take a month-long trip to Europe. I packed only this backpack and a small purse. The design of the backpack is so smart. The sides are hard to give the backpack structure like a luggage. The inside of the backpack has two side pockets which were useful for organizing socks and underwear. The two front pockets were great for small items. I felt safe putting my money inside one of the pockets that were hidden. The backpack was extremely sturdy, had two straps for better posture and balance, and the color was not extremely bright, which was great for me since I did not want to stand out too much in the crowd. The only con was that once you pack the backpack to the fullest, you will feel like a turtle since the backpack will become rounded, unlike the typical hiking backpacks people purchase. Once packed all the way, it also doesn't technically fit within the cheaper airline qualifications for a carry-on (e.g., Ryanair, Easyjet, Vueling), but they didn't question it or hassle us.

Is this the 2017 version? That is the one with the laptop sleve ....to the rear of the pack ......not the front.

Asked by: rondo
Hiya rondo, thanks for your question! We have the current version with the padded laptop sleeve at the back from the front pocket. The version you are referring to hasn't been released yet. It won't be available until August or September of 2017. Hope this helps!

Are the 2016 or 2017, Osprey Porter 46, water resistant. Is there any leakage into the zippered compartments from liquids?

Asked by: MarineJoker
Hiya MarineJoker, thanks for your question! The Porter pack isn't waterproof or water resistant but you can purchase a rain cover to protect it. You can find the rain cover here: https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Osprey-Ultralight-Raincover_10270427_10208_10000001_-1_ Size medium should fit the Porter 46 pack. Hope this helps!

ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE - Osprey's Lifetime Warranty

When Osprey celebrated their 35th anniversary in 2009 they launched The Osprey All Mighty Guarantee. What that means to you is ANY Osprey product purchased at ANY time is covered. Any product, any reason, any era - the all encompassing Osprey lifetime warranty ensures their dedication to superior design, craftsmanship and quality of their products is backed up by their actions to replace or repair a pack so it lasts a lifetime. Or two.

Here are some details.... Osprey will repair for any reason, free of charge, any damage or defect in their products, whether it was purchased back in 1974, or ordered right now from this site. If they are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, they will happily replace it. Osprey proudly stands behind the All Mighty Guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

Some Osprey All Mighty Guarantee FAQs:

What do I do if my Osprey pack needs to be repaired?
If you live in the United States and need a repair done on your Osprey pack, you will first need to obtain a Return Authorization number. You can do this by reaching their Returns Department at 866-314-3130, or using the information that is provided with a new Osprey pack.

What do I do if I just need a replacement pack part like a buckle?
Give Osprey a call at 866-314-3130 and they will take care of you.

How long will it take?
You can tell Osprey you need the pack returned by a certain date when you request a Return Authorization number, and they will do their absolute best to meet that deadline.

What if my pack is super dirty and stinks?
Clean it before you send it to Osprey to get repaired. The real reason is that there is a law that says if your gear is too dirty or odiferous (smelly), Osprey is not allowed to repair it and will just return it to you.

Do I have to pay for shipping?
A little bit. You are responsible for the cost of shipping the pack to Osprey, and they will pay shipping to return the pack via UPS or FedEx. Osprey cannot be held responsible if packages get lost in transit, so make sure you get a tracking number when you ship your pack out. Also, if you use expedited shipping be sure to let Osprey know (866-314-3130). They, in turn, will give your pack priority processing and return it using a similar expedited shipping method.

Do I have to register my pack to take advantage of this incredible guarantee, and/or need to be the original owner of my Osprey pack?
No! Osprey's All Mighty Guarantee is truly ALL MIGHTY. If you own an Osprey pack that needs to be repaired they will repair or replace it.

JUST A HEADS UP: If your Osprey product is not repairable and is replaced, the original product will not be returned to you. They will try really really hard to repair your pack, but if they are unable to make a functional repair, they will replace it. For products that are no longer in production you will be contacted by Osprey to discuss replacement options.

All good answers. So what is NOT covered?
• Osprey program packs or any Osprey pack used by outdoor programs are ONLY covered under Osprey's Program Pack Warranty, NOT AMG.
• Size and/or fit issues. Make sure you buy a pack that fits. Check out the size guide on Osprey product pages for more info.
• Personal preferences like colors you don't like, style of the pack, or not enough/too much room in your pack. Check the product description, features, specifications, and size guide to make sure you are ordering the right pack for you.
• Third party Repairs or replacements. Send your Osprey pack to Osprey and Osprey only to get fixed. Easy as that. And don't try fixing things yourself.
• Cosmetic wear and tear including any reasonable aging of your pack that affects only the appearance and not the function of your pack. Be proud of those scars!
• B.A.M.G. (Before All Mighty Guarantee) Repair Work. The All Mighty Guarantee applies only to repairs requested on or after January 1, 2009.
• A Osprey Hydraulics reservoir is covered by a limited 1-year warranty, which is the reasonable lifespan of a reservoir. Pouring and storing of warm/hot or boiling water in your reservoir WILL VOID your warranty, so don't do that. Reservoirs are NOT designed to contain or handle liquids at temperature.
