Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great all-purpose bag This bag is durable, easy to use, has great features, and is extremely well-designed. I needed something to replace my old Black Diamond Hollowpoint, an effectively indestructible, top-loading, 20L-ish climbing pack with no webbing or doohickeys on the outside to get caught on stuff. This bag perfectly fits the bill, with a little more room than the last one. I use the bag for fieldwork as an archaeologist, which requires some bushwacking from time to time, so I don't like bags that have external webbing or lots of pulls to get caught on thorns and branches. I also prefer bags with really simple, open compartments, so I can chuck my water bottles, a couple of tools, an extra layer, etc. into the bag with ease. This things make it perfect for random day-to-day use, too. I'll throw in water bottles, a little food, my trail shoes, and an extra layer and I'm all set for a trail run. Or, my laptop, some books, computer cables, and snacks and I'm all set to get on the plane. I'm sure these features make it perfect for climbing, too. Finally, the top-cinching strap is a nifty, smart little feature that streamlines and secures the bag when you don't want it to get in the way. Amazing pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy it For use as a school bag it's perfectly suited, even to carry two textbooks and a 13" laptop. For use as an adventure it's durable enough to take a beating, stylish enough to want to use it, and has perfectly placed pockets and features. The back mesh is airy and comfy, but not crazy supportive, which is a bad thing for the loads you'll be carrying. Overall it's a backpack that's hard to beat for the size and pure functionality and flexibility.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great climbing bag! I got this bag in hopes of replacing a worn out Jansport I had been using to hold all my climbing gear. It can hold 2 pair of shoes, harness, 12 quickdraws, 2 belay devices, chalk bag and some snacks with ease. I don't use the rope holder feature at all because I have a rope bag but I think it would be fine. The only thing I don't like about it is that the side pockets suck ass for water bottles. On multi pitch climbs i just use a bladder instead of a bottle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple, Sharp Bag Simple bag the looks sharp and holds a decent amount of supplies. Durable material. Disperses weight well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's a well made pack. The material is real tough Great lil pack to take on adventures and not be afraid to throw it on the ground time after time. You can fit a few ropes in there if you had too, there's plenty of room for all your climbing gear. Stylish too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Stylish, roomy, comfortable The bottom line is I got this bag for free with another purchase so I don't use it for its intended purpose which I think is rock climbing (there's a loop on the top that I'm pretty sure is for securing a helmet?). But I do use it pretty much every day for work to carry around my laptop (13"), files, my lunch, and a water bottle. It's a great little work horse and the side pockets are very roomy and secure. The straps and back are more than I could have asked from a free bag and the bag itself has a lot of capacity. I use this bag on the weekends to carry a couple of blankets, bottle of wine, and food to the park. The only problem I've had is the zippers have a tendency to get stuck due to the unique round design of the opening. It's annoying but easily overlooked on my part.
Date published: 2014-08-14
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, solidly constructed backpack I got this bag as part of a Mtn Hardwear promo on this site, so I wasn't expecting much but now I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of this bag. It has a large main pocket, and some dividers inside for keeping things organized. It'd be useful as a climbing or gym backpack. Probably wouldn't work as well for carrying books or a laptop because it narrows at the bottom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty basic pack, but lightweight and decent storage room Pretty basic pack, but lightweight and decent storage room. Would be suitable ot store some climbing gear.

I see this pack has a place for a hydration bladder, but don't see any images w a straw. Is there a slot in the pack for a straw to come out onto the strop?

Asked by: Jordan
Hiya Jordan, thanks for your question! It does indeed have a special opening/slot for the hydration hose to come out onto the strap. Hope this helps!

MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR PACK FIT GUIDE and INFO

• Determine the correct pack size by measuring from the top of your hip shelf to the C7 vertebrae, which is the protruding bump at the base of the neck.

• If you think you are between pack sizes, consider how and when you will be using the pack. For example, if you will be using the pack primarily in the winter, when more and bulkier clothing is required, you may opt to size up.

• You can find Torso Range and other size information in the description FEATURES or SPECIFICATIONS for each Mountain Hardwear pack. You can also refer to the size guide below to compare the current season packs by category.
