The Mountain Hardwear Down Flip 35/50 Sleeping Bag is a down sleeping bag for various weather conditions. The Flip is filled with 600-fill Q.Shield down, which has a water resistant treatment allowing the down to perform better in wet conditions than untreated down. The semi-rectangular shape leaves plenty of room for rolling over and a single-hand draw cord cinches the hood. One side has more down fill than the other, so you can flip it over depending on the temperature, while a draft tube prevents cold spots along the zipper. Stuff the bag into the included stuff sack for a backpacking trip and steer clear of the bears.

FEATURES of the Mountain Hardwear Down Flip 35 / 50 Sleeping Bag

  • Q.Shield DOWN 600-fill has an advanced treatment applied that resists heat robbing moisture and retains maximum loft in damp conditions
  • Flip the bag from one side to the other to change temperature rating
  • Roomy and versatile semi-rectangular cut
  • 5" baffle spacing keeps down carefully controlled for even, predictable loft
  • Dual slider zipper extend around footbox allowing the bag to be opened up and used as a comforter, two bags to be zipped together and increasing ventilation options
  • Insulated draft tube with anti-snag panel prevents cold spots along zipper
  • Single-handed draw cords adjust bag opening at top

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome idea that works I bought this for a North Carolina backpacking trip in June. The flip works. It was cool the first night so I used the 35. A warm front moved through and we dropped to a lower elevation so I flipped to the 50 the next night. Brilliant!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light as a feather! I purchased it for an Ontario outpost cabin trip in September (100 lb weight limit) and for summer paddle/camping. It feels extremely light and packs really small. So far, I've only used it at home as a light quilt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome flexibility My son and I just love how flexible the bag is for warm and cool nights. Just flip it over to satisfy your comfort and sleep like a baby! We have not tried it below 35 yet but know we will.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact bag for kayak trip This bag compacts well for kayak travel. I'm sure it compacts well for backpack travel as well. Why freeze when you can camp in comfort. Dont be stupid

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best lightweight option! Great durability and flexibility, especially when carry-on baggage is your only safe option. Washes easily. Packs down tiny! Stay warm or cool!
Date published: 2017-12-29
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cold! Its nice and light but I was cold with my liner and in my tent. I'm looking for a warmer liner to go in it. I guess its OK for warmer weather.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from 35-70 "Rating" Is Misleading I got this during the summer and took a short hike in the Rockies during Sep. I froze. I was leary on opening the parcel and feeling the bag. I did not have a chance to take another bag so I took it. Most nights were in the low 40s, but a couple colder. No way could this bag be considered comfortable at 35F ! It might be OK at 50 if the 35 side is used on top. The numeric "comfort" should not be considered a temperature. I do not know where the "new" rating system came from. You should need about 1 lb of 700-900 loft down to get a comfort for 30-35F. I know better, now. One of the major attraction to the bag was the rectangular shape. I do not like mummies, even if they are more weight efficient. I am back looking for that shape in a true 35F temperature comfort use. My recommendation of "No" is based on the 35-50 description, rating. Other features were fine, zipper, volume inside, stuff gear, were OK.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Innovative idea that extremely practical The guys at Mountain Hardwear have great products. This bag is a different temp rating on both sides. I just hiked the Grand Canyon so it was very useful to use the warmer side at the top of the canyon and being able to flip it over for the cooler side at the bottom of the canyon. Basically you have two bags for the price of one. Not to mention it packs down smaller then a watermelon. It's also very light for the price and opens up fully which is practical for use as an open blanket around camp. The shape gives you more room to move around which I prefer over the mummy style. Couldn't be happier with it.

can two of the Mountain Hardwear Down Flip 35 / 50 Sleeping Bags be zipped together side by side to make a double bag with both having the same sides up and down (both with 35 degree side down or 50 degree side down)?

Asked by: JJay
Since this bag only comes in a left hand zipper, there wouldn't be a way to zip the same sides together. You would need a right zip and a left zip in order to do that. So for this bag, one side may want a slighter warmer sleeping bad than the other.

Hi! does this sleeping bag have a double zipper to unzip at the bottom so you can stick your feet out in case your are hot? or is it a one-way zipper only?

Asked by: polovinka18
Hey hey! Great question. I called in a favor to my warehouse crew and had one pulled up. After inspection, you will be happy to know it is a dual zipper! You most assuredly could just unzip the bottom part and let your feet dangle all willy nilly while leaving the side zipped. Hope that helps!

Hi, Is the Q Shield down Q6 or Q8?

Asked by: Alex
Hey there Alex, The Q Shield Down is 600 fill. There is a typo in our description, and I have corrected that error. Thanks again and hope this helps!

Dear manager, Would you please clarify: ~ what is the total weight of this sleeping bag? ~ is any options with the cotton lining?  ~ is it an option to get two of the same bags and one w/the Left-side zipper and the other one w/the Right-side to add

Asked by: Liza
Thanks for the questions! The Down Flip 35 / 50 Sleeping Bag weighs 1 lb. 12 oz. The dual slider zipper allows for two bags to be zipped together. Unfortunately, the lining is 100% Nylon. You could always add a cotton bag liner. I included a suggestion below. Hope this helps! https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Rab-Cotton-Traveller-Sleeping-Bag-Liner_10216729_10208_10000001_-1_

what inflatable pad is the appropriate fit for this bag?

Asked by: jerry
Great question! I would suggest the Big Agnes Insulated Air Core Ultra Sleeping Pad to pair with this bag. It is both inflatable and insulated, so will keep the cold from the ground off your bag. I included a link below. Hope this helps! https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Big-Agnes-Insulated-Air-Core-Ultra-Sleeping-Pad_10328849_10208_10000001_-1_

I need a bag for the Camino where I will be sleeping in hostels ( mostly unheated). I will be going in the fall and nightly temps could fall below 32 ( outside) and 40's inside. Will this bag do the trick or must I also get a silk liner? I am a hot sleepe

Asked by: mavro
Hey there! Well, being indoors, even unheated, will help alleviate the temperature drop since it will take wind out of the equation. A hostel will most likely have you bunched up with other people so you will have the extra warmth of your close knit strangers. That being said, I do recommend a liner. Not for extra warmth, necessarily but for at least preserving your bag. We humans produce so much filth and oil when we're hoofing it around the outdoors and that filth and oil does bad things to down. So, get the liner for protection at minimum. If you are incorporating a sleeping pad, this bag fully unzips and could be used as a top blanket to help you regulate your heat!
