DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Moosejaw Wind Resistant Fabric

Moosejaw Wind Resistant Fabric
Keep this away from any wind chimes. This garment has been engineered to block most of the wind that nature throws at you. Perfect for those cool, blustery days. Some sneaky wind could get through, but just think of it as personal air conditioning and you'll feel positively regal.

Moosejaw Down Insulation

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome coat! I was looking for a long coat that's wind resistant, warm and had a flattering cut. This coat is all of those things. I've already worn it in really cold/slushy/windy weather in Chicago and I stayed totally warm. In terms of fit: It isn't boxy at all, it nips in at the waist just enough to give you shape. There are a ton of extra details that are so nice - the inside of the collar and pockets are super soft, the wrist warmers are great, the hood is adjustable (so it stayed on when the wind was beating down on me). A note on length: I'm 5'9" and it hits me just below the knees.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm in the Chi... This was my first purchase with Moosejaw after a recommendation from a colleague. I was a little shocked when it arrived in such a small package and even more shocked when it kept me warm. I live in Chicago and everything is true abt the Windy City winters. They are brutal with below temps as the norm and when the windshield is calculated into the temp then it's double digits below. However this coat keeps me warm without having to layer with extra clothing underneath. I commute to work so its comfortable and not bulky. Its also flattering to my shape and I don't look like a big bear. I so pleased with my first purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Found my ideal down coat I was in a panic, my down coat was from a thrift store & never fit from the start, but this year I could not get away again with wearing it. I donated it, then proceeded to find a repalcement. Here I am looking after the holidays, after sales had started, and winter is fast upon us. My choices were limited, plus the sizes available. Found Moosejaw late one night, and there my new coat appeared. It arrived quickly, and I am thrilled. The features of the design are wonderful. It fits, the color is great, I can move with ease, and the Polar Freeze has arrived. I am prepared to forge ahead into the day or night!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bravo!! I am 5'9" and 135 lbs. bought the medium and it fits great. Was looking for a jacket to cover the butt when I sat down( spend a lot of time at hockey rinks), which means it basically has to start at your knees! This does just that. And the arms are long enough. It is light, slim and not bulky It is a great color combo and I always love the little extra details like the quirky Mossejaw quotes. Thank you for being so darn sarcastic and FUN!! The only reason this did not get five stars is because I wish it was a little warmer. Guess that is my problem for living in MIchigan. Brrrrrrrr!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Warm and Tons of Compliments I got this coat for my girlfriend as the winters in salt lake city can be pretty harsh, especially when trekking up through the mountains. So, I chose the gray one and gave to her at Christmas. She's loved it ever since and got so many compliments from coworkers that she's very happy with it. Best part is that she got to go to an outside winter event and had to sit on aluminum benches...but the coat kept her warm and women around kept asking if she was cold (which she wasn't). Some even came up after to ask where she got her coat...which she just smiled and said it was a gift from her boyfriend. Doesn't get much better than that!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bottle Opener...Enough Said Here is a Haiku about this jacket. The winter is cold. This jacket is warming, yay! Bottle opener. This jacket is fantastic. It is very warm, has plenty of pocket space, has a spot for head phones, AND has a moose antler shaped bottle opener. I was beyond excited to find that inside the pocket. I went from a hand-me-down winter jacket to this and have been very pleased. I would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a quality winter down jacket. Fabulous jacket, even better company!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally found the coat I've been looking for! I've been looking for a new coat for a couple of months now. I live in Chicago so warmth is important to me. I also wanted something that was reasonably priced for a warm coat and at least a little flattering. I bought a couple of coats (Patagonia and Marmot) online at Moosejaw. They were great coats, but too bulky on me. (I'm 5'2, average-sized/curvy, not super-skinny petite.) I actually went to the Moosejaw store to return those coats and found this Moosejaw Woodward Longer Down coat. I didn't even know that Moosejaw had its own brand or I would have looked at this sooner. It's very warm and it's flattering. I loved it immediately and can't wait to wear it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this jacket! I bought this jacket because I was looking for a longer length down coat that was not only warm, but well-made and stylish. I got this coat and was so pleased that the fit was perfect (which usually doesn't happen when I order a completely unfamiliar item off the internet) and very true to size. The details are great from the knit cuffs with thumb holes to the fuzzy material around the neck and pockets, the two-way zipper and the detachable hood. The burgundy accents are very nice and add a bit of subtle color. My only wish was that the zipper went all the at to the bottom of the coat instead of stopping about 8 inches before the bottom. This smal issue is not a deal-breaker, however, and I will be loving this coat for a long time to come!

Is the sizing true or should I go up a size ?

Asked by: Babs
Hiya Babs, thanks for your question! My office mate tried this jacket on. She is between a size small and medium. The small was snug on her... it could zip up but she wouldn't be able to wear anything more than a single layer, and she definitely couldn't wear a hoodie or thick sweater. Based on that information, I would say that it is true-to size, however, if you are between sizes, size up. Hope this helps!

Is this machine washable?  What are the laundering instructions?

Asked by: Violet C
Hiya Violet C, thanks for your question! Yes, you can machine wash cold and gentle tumble dry on low heat. To restore down loft, add tennis balls during the drying cycle. Do not use fabric softener, bleach, dry clean or iron. Hope this helps!

I like the style of this coat, but what are its temperature ratings? I know that a down coat can be warm without being heavy or bulky, but this one doesn't seem like it would protect me on frigid, gusty Chicago winter days with wind chill in the teens.

Asked by: shel
Hiya Shel, thanks for your question! We do not temperature rate our jackets as each person tolerates temperatures differently. (Weather conditions and activity level can also affect warmth.) That said... this jacket has 650 down fill insulation, which is very warm. One of my office mates has this jacket. She runs hot so she is comfortable in this jacket in below freezing weather with a single layer of clothing. If the temperature is -0 degrees Fahrenheit, she adds another layer. My other office mate runs cold so she adds a hoodie or insulated vest when the temperature drops to the teens. Hope this helps!

What is the temperature diff of 650 and 550 down? I see colors crow, iron and wine have less down at the end of description.

Asked by: Lmorr1965
Hiya Lmorr1965, thanks for the question! We do not have temperature ratings for most of our garments. The fill power refers to the quality of down. The higher the fill power, i.e. 550 vs 650 fill, the greater the loft provided by the down, and therefore the less down it requires to provide warmth. The 550 down fill options (Crow, Iron and Wine) are from the 2015 season. 650-fill is a step up in quality. I hope this helps a little!

Is this 650 or 550 fill? Description says 650, but specs say 550. Thanks!

Asked by: Love the warm madness
Hiya, thanks for your question! The 2015 colors of this jacket (Crow, Iron and Wine) are 550 down fill, however, the 2016 colors (Black, Cabernet, Midnight and Pearl) are 650 down fill. Hope this helps!

Hi, I am looking for the longest & warmest coat you offer. Do you think this will do the job? Or any other suggestions?

Asked by: Allie0314
Hiya Allie0314, thanks for your question! Because warmth is a subjective thing, it is hard to say what the warmest jacket is... but this one is a toaster! It is light, yet warm and comfy. A couple of my office mates have this jacket and they absolutely love it. One of them can wear the jacket with only a t-shirt underneath and she feels fine. There is really no need to look any further! Hope this helps!
