RECCO Reflectors

RECCO® Reflectors
The RECCO® Rescue System is two-part technology. Ski resorts and mountain rescue teams carry RECCO® detectors, which send out a search signal. RECCO® reflectors worn by skiers, riders and other outdoors people, bounce back a directional signal that directs the rescuer straight to the reflector. Unlike other technologies, multiple RECCO® reflectors on a person can improve detection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm & waterproof I bought this for my brother who just moved to Seattle. He says it is perfect for taking the dog out for a quick walk and he doesn't have to layer up under it to stay warm. He said it also keeps him dry when raining.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm enough for winter in the Windy City Tested in 30° with very strong wind as well as low teens with moderate wind. Only a short sleeve polo and undershirt underneath. Completely toasty. I purposely stood on the El platform in the wind instead of taking cover and had no issues. 6'0" 175lbs M is perfect Major Pros: super warm, windproof (yes, really,) not bulky, lightweight, looks sharp, feels good The hood stays on even in strong headwind and is snug enough that you don't really need a hat except in extreme weather. Minor Cons: you have to like the sleeves--they have thumb holes and partially cover your hands. If you don't use this feature then you have bunched up fabric at the wrist. I like the warmth but it's not for everyone. Also it's so warm it's easy to overheat once you're on a train/bus or in the car. Finally the hood is lined with a fabric that makes quite a bit of noise in your ears as you walk, which is annoying in the city where you want to be aware of your surroundings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alaska battle tested! I bought the grey/tan Mt.Elliott on sale last year after trying out in store, then shipping to my son. He lives in coastal Alaska where it’s always wet, rain and snow, but seldom below teens super cold. After a season of outdoor sport extremes and snowboarding, he was frickin amazed by the performance of this jacket. Light but warm and dry. He also had a lot of questions about it since Moosejaw brand is virtually unknown up there. Best gift I EVER gave him.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight, but warm Waterproofing is superb. The insulation on the jacket is very thin, but it reflects heat back into your body, making it surprisingly warm for how light it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket! I bought this jacket a few weeks ago and I am super pleased. It is well-made and I believe it will last for years. I love the pocket placement, as everything is very convenient and easy to access. Packs great as well. Much smaller than the older jacket this replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mt. Elliott reaches new heights The first thing you'll notice like me is this jacket is not heavy. This makes it extremely versatile. It really keeps me warm in middle forties weather. The longer cut keeps my waist warm. The inside and outside pockets are super convenient without taking away from the great overall look of the jacket. I love that the hood is removable, but I actually enjoy having it there. It adjusts quickly. Having a jacket that's windproof and waterproof were my two important components. The ability to be found in an avalanche was just a bonus. I did my homework and even after I bought it I surfed around more to see if I overlooked a better jacket. I didn't. I don't think you will either.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect Winter Jacket I've had this jacket for a few weeks now. Since I live in Michigan that means it's seen almost everything already. And it took it all! I love all the pockets. The mesh ones on the inside are perfect for holding hat and gloves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super warm jacket with lots of nice features! I bought this jacket a few weeks back for my first Chicago winter and I've been loving it ever since! It keeps me super warm and has great features like lots of pockets, a bottle opener, and built-in balaclava. I think this jacket has far better value than the more expensive brands. Definitely worth the purchase!

is this long enough for a 6'3 man?

Asked by: kate
Hey there, Thanks for the question. This coat comes in several sizes. The Medium has a back length of about 29", while the Large has a 39.5" and the Extra Large has a 40" length. While it would depend on your specific torso length, this jacket fits well length-wise on most people around your height who I've had try it on and falls at about hip length.

how heavy is this item? looking for a good coat but not one that is heavy

Asked by: Danette
Hey there, While this coat is not a heavy duty parka, it is designed to be worn in colder conditions and coupled with the tough waterproof outer fabric, the jacket itself is not super light weight. For an all-around jacket is is surprisingly light, though, weighing 33.6 oz and is also easy to move around in without the "puff" you get in other winter and down jackets, thanks to the PrimaLoft Silver insulation, which provides a lot of warmth without a lot of bulk. It would be a good choice if you are looking for a lighter coat that provides warmth and coverage even in the worst weather.

As far as insulation goes and how warm this jacket is, which jacket by patagonia or the north face would it be comparable to? Looking to make sure this jacket will keep me warm through this michigan winter. thanks!

Asked by: DetroitROC
Hiya DetroitROC, thanks for your question! It would be very difficult to compare this jacket to a different brand... but I can tell you it is very warm! It has 133 grams of PrimaLoft Silver insulation and 100gm of PrimaLoft Silver insulation in the sleeves and hood. (Most winter wear has between 60 and 150 grams of insulation.) Plus, the waterproof shell will protect you from the winter elements. Hope this helps!

I recently bought The North Face Men's Thermoball Triclimate Jacket, but I don't think the insulated lining will be warm enough is the Moosejaw Men's Insulated Waterproof jacket warmer? And what type of lining is inside.

Asked by: Chris C
Hiya Chris C, thanks for your question! Warmth is subjective and unique to each person. That said, the Thermoball insulation is designed to trap the heat generated from your body to increase warmth. It is meant to feel light and airy and should keep you warm during winter activities. The Mt. Elliott has a nylon lining with more grams of insulation, so it should feel a bit heavier and warmer. Both jackets will protect you from the winter wind and snow but I think the Mt. Elliot slightly edges out the Thermoball in warmth. If you don't mind the extra weight, give it a try. If you need something lightweight for hiking or snow sports, the Thermoball should be fine. Hope this helps!

Description says waist length but photo appears hip length? I'm in a wheelchair so too long makes for bulky look. Any other SUPER warm waist coat suggestions?

Asked by: bjack
Hey there, Thanks so much for reaching out to us! Our Moosejaw Mt. Elliot jackets tend to settle on the hips verses the waist. This coat does not have a temperature rating. In fact, most coats do not have temperature ratings. This is for several reasons. Mainly, it's because warmth is a subjective thing, unique to each person. Not only that, but there are other factors that can affect a person's (jacket's) warmth: wind, humidity, activity level, what else your wearing, etc. However, there are still helpful hints you can use to guide you. Best bet will be to check the insulation on jackets of your fave brand(s) :)

roughly how cold (wind chill) can this coat be comfortably worn alone in without any form of heavy middle layer?

Asked by: NewKidNoah
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Let me show you with what some of our customers have said: - "5 Degrees Outside and I'm OK" -Jill. - "It is so light, I thought it wouldn't be warm enough for -10 degree wind chill. It is plenty warm." -Joe. - "Hit the back bowls at Vail in sub 10 degree weather and was warmer than a pig in a blanket." -Rob. - "This thing works great for everyday use when its freezing outside, camping when its freezing outside, or in the snow. I don't feel cold in this sucker at all." -Joseph. - "I have worn military issue cold weather gear and this coat is just as warm as the extreme cold weather coat (marshmallow jacket) the army issued me for the mountains in Afghanistan." -Dana. Pretty darn cool. Hope this helped you out!

MOOSEJAW MEASUREMENT GUIDE

How to Measure

To get the most accurate measurement, use a flexible measuring tape and refer to the measuring guide info below.

CHEST - Measure around your chest, holding the measuring tape under your armpit. Please refrain from flexing for a more accurate measurement. You can flex after.

WAIST - Measure around your waist at the narrowest part. Then multiply it by 1.

HIP - Measure around your hips at the widest part. This is where all your hipness lies.

SLEEVE - With your arms in a slightly bent position, measure from the center of the back of your neck, along the length of your arm, to the wrist. Do it in front of a mirror. Then flex again. Yep, still got it.
