GORE-TEX Paclite

GORE-TEX Paclite
GORE-TEX Paclite is the gold standard for lightweight, breathable elemental protection. Paclite jackets are extremely packable and great to have on hand for windy or rainy conditions. They'll keep your torso dry and comfortable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light, breathable, but not very durable. These pants are lightweight, pack small, and breath well. They eventually soak through (like all rain pants), but they do a great job of keeping me warm in cold and wet conditions. I can get the pants on and off without taking my boots off, but it's a bit of a juggling act (I would love if Marmot made a full zip gore-tex pant). Unfortunately, these pants are not very durable. I have only used them for one summer season and never wore crampons with them, but they already have rips on the inside of both legs and tears along the inner seams. I hike hard and aggressively, but I only wear the pants in inclement weather (about 20% of the time). Thus, they show a lot of wear with not a lot of use. I will patch these up and try to get another season out of them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from They do keep you dry. These pants have a weird fit. I wanted some new bicycle commuting rain pants and liked the bottoms that have elastic. The waist elastic is very very tight. In order to have the knee bends at the right place, the waist has to ride high and my groin gets attacked. I was super irritated by these pants when I hiked in them (a few summits and a beach hike in pouring rain.) But the waterproofness was good and the pockets are waterproof from the inside too, so you can put stuff in them and it will stay dry. I got a size S, which usually fits well because I am 5'4" and about 130 lbs. I could fit them over softshell pants but it was not a pleasant fit - size up. Also they were not at all long - maybe even a bit short.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from PROBABLY A GOOD PRODUCT IF you don't mind taking off your hiking boots to put these on, which if you are like me, is a pain in the ?$@! Who wants to sit down on the trail when it's starting to rain and unlace your hiking boots to pull these on, then re-tie your laces before you can get going again??,,Marmot makes great products but needs to get with the program about length of zippers at bottom of their rain pants. I have another pair of Marmot rain pants from 2005, that have the exact same problem of the zipper not being long enough to fit over hiking boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best fit you can ask for Looked for a rain pants for a few months now. No other pants fit remotely as good as this one. I love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent waterproof pants. As advertized. I needed a pair of waterproof pants to protect me on my commute to work. These have been nothing but excellent for that. I have worn them several times in light rains up to torrential down pours and they have always kept me dry. The zippers do their job too. My phone or wallet has never been wet. I would not wear "rain gear" while hiking in the rain, so I cannot comment on that, but I suspect these would perform well too in that environment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall Great Rain Pants I've owned 2 pairs of these pants. They are lightweight and pack down really small. My issue is that they haven't held up well here in Alaska. I'm constantly patching them. My last pair I punched a hole in them my first time wearing them. I slipped walking down a rocky trail and gently landed in a seated position. When I stood up, my wife pointed out 2 small holes. I wouldn't recommend them if you plan on going off trail.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not durable at all I bought these as a 4 season hardshell for everything from hiking to ski touring and mountaineering. On the second trip I took them on the fly zipper completely ripped off of the pants because it was improperly sewn right on the edge of the material... leaving the mountaineering trip decidedly drafty. Additionally, the outer material that Marmot laminates their Gore-Tex to is not very durable - I have already put multiple holes in it just from sitting on a boulder to eat lunch. I have also put a massive rip in the knee from snagging an ice axe, and another sizeable rip in the inner calf from catching on a crampon tine. They really just seem to tear like paper. I always keep my avalanche beacon in the front right pocket, and the outer material is already starting to wear out and look frayed. I'm thoroughly disappointed with the durability of these pants. I would only recommend them as casual hiking pants for inclement weather, and not for anything more challenging.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Get a full zip rain pant Everything about these rain pants is good, but not great. I wish they came in a slightly longer inseam (I am 5'8" and 130lbs), and the leg zipper was longer. Do not try to put these on over backpacking boots as the inner lining material will definitely tear. Size up for layering! I usually wear a small but got a medium and can fit these over my softshell pants. Despite the flaws, these pants do seem durable and will hold up to spring alpine ascents and backpacking trips.
