The Marmot Men's PreCip Jacket is a waterproof hiking jacket for exploring new trails. The PreCip is coated with NanoPro, Marmot's most breathable waterproof coating. It keeps you dry from the elements without the icky garbage bag feeling on the inside. When you get too hot, pop open the pit zips for quick ventilation. The jacket packs into its own pocket when not in use, so no reason not to bring it along with you, just in case. The hood adjusts for fit as well as rolls into the collar to stay out of the way on mild days. When zipped all the way to your chin, tuck into the DriClime Lined Chin Guard for soft, non-chafing warmth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For those not needing a 6oz rain jacket This is a time proven product at a reasonable price. I like to pack ultra light on many things, but I want something more substantial in a rain jacket. I prefer the options provided by this jacket. Adjustable wrists, underarm zip vents, larger hood, hood stores in collar, taped seams, life time manufacturers warranty... Hard to beat. ,,,,The XL fits me well with enough room for a base and thin insulating layer. I'm 6'2" and 240 lbs. After getting mine, I decided to also get one for my 8 year old. We'll be doing a lot outdoors this summer and we get our share of rain in Michigan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Jacket for the price I have worn this jacket several times now for both wind and rain (and once some hail). It performed well in the hail storm though I did notice some clammyness. I was only wearing a short sleeve cotton T-shirt underneath so not a very good layering system. I'm sure it would perform better with a more breathable shirt or fleece. It's definitely good for cool weather but I am rarely inclined to use it in the heat, even with the pitzips open. I have no real complaints and being that this is my first rain jacket, I don't have anything to compare it to. One final note is that is dries very quickly, which is always a plus.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from changed since 2007 I bought this jacket in 2007 and there have been some changes since then none of which I would rate as an improvement. One is that the material seems stiffer and makes more crinkly noises when you move, like your wearing a stiff plastic bag. Two is the collar/hood design. The old one had a separate collar, now the hood rolls up into the collar making it stiffer. Three, the inside is now a bright white while before it was a gray. In my opinion the bright white does not look good when it shows with the jacket partially zipped. Cannot rate the rain performance yet but expect it will be at least as good as the old model. Breathability seems good, at least for walking around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good experience with a new online store My old Marmot PreCip jacket was about 15-20 years old. It had given unbelievable service, but was starting to leak across the top of the shoulders. The new jacket has improved features; the hood folds into the collar. Still has armpit zips (would not have a rain jacket without this feature). The dark olive color that I received does not match my old jacket or the color shown online. However, this is often a problem with online shopping and different monitors. First time shopping with Moosejaw. Attractive website, easy shopping and the price was right on the PreCip. Will probably put Moosejaw on my list of shopping websites.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reign Jacket Never before has such a garment been created by human hands. With the power to repel water using nano-bot micro technology and cutting edge density shifting tachyons for the lowest weight imaginable, the Marmot Precip is indeed that garment. Equipped with laser-guided zippers that open AND close with deadly precision, as well as hyper-pneumatic hood and waist pull strings that utilize clean-nuclear energy to ensure the best fit, this jacket is the stuff of legend. Also it keeps water off of you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid I bought this jacket because its the male version of what my girlfriend (now wife) got, and she doesn't spend money without exhaustively researching a product. ,,It has served me well in inclement weather, holding tight for hours upon hours during the rainy season in Scotland and Iceland (we don't do cabs, we hoof it). The pit-zips are wonderful for those who over-produce heat like me. ,,My wife wears her women's precip nearly daily from late September to early June and its only started to show signs of wear (about 3 years of heavy use). ,,,,For a reasonably priced top layer to keep you dry, this is the way to go. ,,,,Ps- If I could attach photos you'd see my wife and I in these jackets in several countries bunkered down against the elements enjoying ourselves ,,,,,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard to beat for the price I use this jacket fairly frequently in my daily commute as well as on wet outings in the mountains and it is still keeping me dry.,,The jacket is a solid choice without breaking the bank. It packs very well, is lightweight, looks nice (in orange anyways), and has been durable thus far. My (petty) complaints are that the velcro along the zipper could be better and a chest pocket would be useful. But if you are after a no-frills, durable rain jacket, the Marmot Precip will do just fine!,,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for Got this for my 2016 NOBO thru hike of the AT. Love how breathable it is, unlike other rain jackets I've used in the past that feel like you're wearing a furnace after 20 minutes.

I have an old Precip from about 2011. It has served me well and had lots of life left in it but one thing has always bugged me: MESH POCKETS--WHY?!?!?!?  Does this version have mesh pockets, or ones that will keep your hands dry when it is not zipped?

Asked by: JCar
Marmot had a short video presentation the PreCip. Like you, I wondered why mesh materials were used for handpockets. The video said that while the pockets were opened, it helped with the ventilation, similar to what the pit zips did when opened.

I will be purchasing my 2nd Marmot Precip. I'm 6'2 and 115 lbs. I think I'll need the Xl because I'm carrying too many lbs. but the sleeves on other Marmot Xl's hang over my wrist. Where are they supposed to hang? Thanks!

Asked by: Flip
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! The sleeve length on Marmot's PreCip Jacket is 35 in - 36 in for Large and 36 in - 37 in for XL. If you have a tape measure, you can measure an arm to see where the sleeves would land on you specifically. Like any jacket, sleeves normally come to a rest at your wrist. You don't want them to inhibit the use of your fingers or look like flood sleeves, unless of course, you're trying to provide a fashion statement!

Trying to decide between a Large or XL Mens Precip jacket. I am 6ft 2in, 210lbs. I saw you had answered a previous question on the sleeve length being 35inches which seem really very long. Can you advise me on if this is correct and where to measure?

Asked by: wakejosh
Hey there dude! The sleeve measurement on Large is actually 23.5" from the under arm/armpit to the edge of the sleeve. The shoulder edge seam to the edge of the sleeve is 27" long. The Large is 25" across the chest from armpit to armpit. The XL should be an inch or two larger in those areas. Personally I prefer to size up for rain jackets. That way I can wear a hoody or heavy sweater under it in fall or winter and won't be too confined.
