Marmot Down Defender

Marmot Down Defender
Marmot Down Defender helps prevent down from clumping when exposed to water or moisture. This allows it to keep its loft, which equates to greater insulation. Nothing will stop the specially treated, highly water-resistant down from trapping warm air next to your body.

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Incredibly Warm Ordered after returning a high-fill competitor jacket that turned out to be too thin. It turns out that fill weight is just as, if not more, important than fill power, but no one publishes that info (e.g. a 1.5 pound 600-fill jacket will be way warmer than a .5 pound 800-fill). I wanted something to wear daily during frigid Montana winters. This coat is very puffy, and so far has been amazingly warm. Going from my house to my freezing truck, you don't even notice a temperature difference except on your hands and face. Only two complaints so far. One is the hood. The hood visor hits the back of my head when down, and with the hood up, it feels like my head disappears because the hood is so deep. Another complaint is the fit around the mid-back. When I'm driving or reaching forward, it feels tight across the back between the sleeves. Not bad, but not ideal. For the price, this is an awesome jacket. Very warm and puffy, seems decently built, and all the pockets are a nice addition (I love having the Napoleon pocket for my everyday cards and cash, and the inside for less-used items).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I'm totally satisfied with this great jacket and it fits very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cozy puffy I bought this jacket to replace an older 800 fill down jacket (from a competitor) that I had for 15 years. I have had great satisfaction from Marmot softgoods in the past, so I wanted to give this coat a try. It's very lofty and super warm. I like the insulated hood, and the down has stayed dry in the wet snow we often get in the Idaho panhandle. I'm 6'0" and about 190. My arms are longer than average so I got the XL. It is a little longer, but it's still got a narrower cut and has plenty of room for more layers if necessary. This jacket will serve as my coldest weather jacket for apres, light winter hiking, and day-to-day use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still as good Had first one for years and years, didn't think it would last or fabric hold up as well as it did. Would still use but lost in a move. New one looks just as nice. These are so light, yet so warm. I wear over my gravity ss when casually walking dog or low output outdoor activity. If you start moving around it gets warm fast, as it should. Its long, has long arms and hood seals up well. I am 6'2", 205 and wear a 48L. The XXL fits easily over my softshell and baselayer. Could fit a fleece too if needed, but It would need to be -10 or more for me. Great jacket. As obvious, stationary, low energy, unless very cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very warm for its weight Lightweight but very warm. Havent tested the waterproof-ness of the down though. A bit puffy, so can really be worn only as an outer shell (but with lots of room for additional layers underneath).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the trick Purchased this last year as an outer layer for cold weather sport climbing, i was looking for a jacket to keep me warm between burns while belaying or standing around waiting to climb. As in insulated outer layer it does a good job, and I found I used it for all my winter activites after the climbing season ended; including marching around in the back country with my kids in temps under 15 degrees with a lot of wind. So I like the versatility of the jacket. Also, the hood adds a lot of warmth, and the length, cut, and fit of the jacket are just what I wanted. I look forward to a great season with it this year.
