DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lightweight jacket Great lightweight jacket, very comfortable and perfect for cool evenings, Excellent water repellency.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Layer My first DriClime was a hand-me-down and that jacket spent over 100 days of skiing each season for the next 2 years. When I lost it, I didn't hesitate to purchase another. It has proven to be the best layer of the last decade for me, whether under a heavier weight outer layer or as the outer layer. Superb cut, great function, and comfortable in performance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly Designed This shirt looks like something from the 80s or 90s. Why on earth did Marmot choose such shiny, noisy material for a running shirt? Take a cue from other brands that offer clothing you'd actually want to be seen in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from most used piece in my collection of tech wear. Waiting for correct size to arrive. Have worn a dryclime shirt for 10yrs, hardly any sign of wear and tear. Zipper even holding up. Bought 2nd to get before Y'all go and change it or discontinue. Best Marmot product of the 15 or so that I own. Got issues with another piece. But this one truly is the best piece I own

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for being active in the Northwest! I was able to put the DriClime Windshirt to the test this weekend on a K9 Search and Rescue workout in the rain. I couldn't be happier with the performance. Following a dog through the forest, off trail is no easy task. At first I tried my standard waterproof/breathable jacket but was miserable... too hot, too sweaty, just as wet as if I wasn't wearing waterproof at all. I switched to my Windshirt and had an instant improvement. Sure, I was still wet, but I was comfortable and maintained an appropriate temperature all day. The thin insulating layer of the jacket kept moving the water away from my skin as fast as it would come in. I didn't really feel "wet"... more Goldilocksish... just right. Just that Windshirt with a baselayer under it was perfect for 6 hours of bushwacking through soaking wet pacific northwest forest. I had read a recommendation on this product that advised, if you're active in the northwest, forget about waterproof and focus on breathable. Best advice ever. If I was going to be sitting around camp, I'd probably stick with waterproof, but for moving around, the breathability of the Windshirt is almost magical. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic over or under-wear; very light This is a clever alternative to a 200 wt fleece. Depending on which brand of fleece you like, this is either the same weight or lighter. But, thanks to the smooth finish, tight weave, DWR treated integral shell, the classic Marmot Windshirt doesn't let wind or rain in. In light rain, the DWR and tight weave let the rain drip off. In heavy rain, when hiking, the shell will wet out in spots but not let enough water through to be a problem - essentially your body heat from hiking is keeping the thin lining dry. The lining IS thin - about a "thin" weight of base layer material, in fact it IS Marmot's brand of technical base layer material, Driclime. Driclime uses the mechanical structure of its weave to "wick" sweat away, so the wicking never wears out unlike chemically treating wicking fabrics. UNIQUE FEATURE: note the "split" shirt-tail style hem that allows a longer drape over your hips, even tucking in like a shirt. I wear mine "tails out" but in colder weather if you don't have a puff jacket option, you can tuck this into your pants (and maybe put a rain shell over). INTENTIONAL DESIGN OMISSIONS: since this is designed to be tucked in if you desire, there are NO handwarmer pockets, and there is not drawn string (which would be lumpy when tucked in). NEGATIVES: IIRC, earlier editions of this were made with a nylon, not a polyester, shell. Nylon can be stiff but is much stronger than polyester. The "Ether" windshirt editions are made of 1.0 oz nylon, this is made of 1.5 oz polyester. So, comparable strength but a weight and bulk penalty. I don't consider this a buy/don't buy fact, just an observation. RECOMMENDATION: yeah, you need one of these for an lightweight hiking kit. It's like a rain shell but with a touch of a lining - and unlike a real rain shell, you can wear it day in and day out since this works about as well once the DWR is starting to wear out as when new (since it "pumps" the water away as much as sheds it). I have used these on air trips, but the shirt-style split hem looks a little odd, the Catalyst (discontinued) and Ether have more conventional jacket (not-split) hems, also zipper handwarmer pockets which are really handy on a flight.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from OI like my old one better I've had this jacket for just over 10 years and loved it every single day. People could identify me by my jacket. I was careless and ripped a hole in it, so I figured it was time for a new one. But the new one is not the old one. It has no side pockets! I live by those pockets!! The new jacket, I could not recommend, unlike the old one.
