The Marmot Force 3P Tent is a 3 person tent for the backcountry. A mesh upper allows a night breeze to flow through as you sleep under the stars with a hiking partner or two. Whether your hiking friends are two-legged or four, the tent structure provides plenty of livable space, plus two doors make coming and going quick and simple. Unless your dog can't open doors. Throw the rain fly over top when the skies threaten rain and not only are you protected from moisture, but you've gained two vestibules for gear storage.

FEATURES of the Marmot Force 3P Tent

  • Zone pre-bend construction creates vertical walls
  • More roomy sleeping area and greater head room
  • Two D shaped doors
  • Two vestibules for gear storage
  • Rain-shield polyester flysheet doesn't stretch and sag when wet and resists damage from UV
  • Lamp shade pocket securely holds your headlamp to provide ambient light
  • Strategic clip placement provides larger interior volume
  • Seam taped full coverage fly with vents

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spacious! This review is for the MARMOT FORCE 3P (2016). Weight: The tent is easily carried between my husband and me (2.9 lbs for tent plus fly and 2.0 lbs for ground cloth plus poles.) Exterior dimensions: Widest point is 119” from vestibule to vestibule. (For comparison, the MSR Hubba Hubba Nx 2P has a width of 110”.) Finding an accommodating tent site has not been an issue. Interior dimensions: My husband is 6’2” and sleeps on a 25” wide pad, so the Force 2P felt a little snug. The Force 3P is very roomy and we can also bring our young teen on occasion. Materials: Fabrics are a little more robust than found in other lightweight tents (e.g. 40 D floor, 30 D fly). Poles: We liked having four separate poles rather than a hubbed system. The ridgepole is still “triangulated” with each end pole via hard plastic intersection hubs but also extends beyond these hubs to pull out the head and foot ends of the tent. The poles were easy to set up and compacted nicely for storage. Hardware: The tent snaps onto each tip of the ridgepole and each tip of the brow pole via hard plastic ball-cap- or socket-type connectors. The remainder of the tent attaches to the poles via hanger-type clips (rather than sleeve-type clips) that are easy to use. Weather Resistance: The tent can definitely withstand high winds. Guy out points are attached on the underside of the fly to the poles with Velcro. We did find that the fly sags a bit when wet and noticed that Marmot changed the fly material on the 2017 version of the tent. Unfortunately, the tent cannot be set up fly first in the rain. Despite having an all mesh interior, the tent felt warm enough on cold nights. Vestibules: The vestibules were just right for our needs. We tend to store only our boots in our vestibules and place our packs away from our tents in case they have any residual bear attractant smells. Mesh: We loved the 360 degrees of view and the feeling of being out in the open (minus mosquito companions!) on beautiful nights. Pockets: There is an overhead lamp pocket and a pocket near each person’s head. Color: The color is refreshing and photogenic. Overall: We are very pleased with our purchase of this high quality tent.

Can this tent be set up with frame and fly only, no tent body? Thanks

Asked by: tincup
Hey there, Tincup! You absolutely can throw the rain fly on the poles without the tent body! I would highly recommend in that scenario, though, throwing a footprint or tarp down! They do make a footprint for the Force 3P that would fit perfectly with the poles. But that choice is yours!
