The MSR Papa Hubba NX 4-Person Tent is a free-standing tent for group backpacking and family trips into the woods. The Mutha Hubba has been around for awhile, and only since 2014 have gear nuts and hiking gurus been able to meet the Papa Hubba, a lightweight tent with plenty of room. The minimum weight of 5 lbs, 15 oz allows you to pack it up and carry from camp to camp along the trail, all while still featuring two doors with built-in rain gutters and two vestibules for your gear. The 20D ripstop nylon, 1200mm Durashield™ polyurethane & silicone coating on the rain fly keeps the group protected from harsh rains, while the 30D ripstop nylon with 3000mm Durashield™ polyurethane & DWR protects from wet grounds below. Now all you need to do is to draw straws for who gets to carry the tent.

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend this product. I loved this tent from the moment it was set up. Free Standing, spacious, and a good packing weight for our family overnight trips.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tent! Great tent for a family of 4 who likes to backpack. We are thrilled with our Hubba Hubba and with kiddos we had to upgrade to more space. I highly recommend MSR tents. We haven't had this in the rain yet, but if it performs like the other Hubbas, I expect it to do well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from disappointed After researching all brands of tents we desided to pay the extra for the MSR Pappa Hubba NX4 tent, initially we were pleased with the unit with its light weight for back country camping and roominess. Once the rain came the drips in the tent were not popular. MSR are willing to evaluate the tent but now have to send it back and seems to have to buy another tent to finish our summer vacations. Disappointed since we could have gone with a new version of our tried and tested Marmot tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It passed the first test. Set it up on the deck the day it arrived. Had a good thunderstorm then heavy rain most of the night. I stayed completely dry through it all. The next test will be a week in the Boundary Waters. I'm very impressed by the amount of useable space in this tent!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Amount Of Space For The Weight We purchased the Papa Hubba after we adopted our second dog, we backpack and car camp frequently and needed to upgrade our older model (2 person) Hubba Hubba for the extra space. When we first set-up the Papa Hubba we were concerned about the viability of the materials, especially with two 50lb dogs, as the floor and mesh materials are very thin and lightweight. We ended up ordering the Elixir 4 to compare, but ended up keeping the Papa Hubba (and purchasing the floor print for extra protection) for the following reasons: - Weight: Compared to the Elixir, Papa Hubba has the weight of a true backpacking tent. The Papa Hubba could easily be carried by one person, the Elixir has some serious heft to it, even without the floorprint, and while it felt more rugged, it wasn't worth the extra weight. - Materials: The Papa Hubba felt more "open" to us with more mesh in the canopy of the tent. We felt a bit more claustrophobic in the Elixir, given the little amount of mesh that there is. - Ease Of Set-Up: With just 3-poles, it was a snap to set-up the tent on the first try. - Construction: We liked the placement of the poles (one on each side with one over the top) of the Papa Hubba better than the Elixir's poles, which cross at each end. It made the tent feel more spacious with more headroom on the sides. While I think the Elixir is a great tent, the Papa Hubba is a much better backpacking tent. If you do buy this tent, I highly recommend buying the floor print as well for extra protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of room !! I bought this last year for family camping and this tent is really cool ! Lots of room, lightweight and really easy to set up. I even prefer this tent to my 2 person tent when hiking with a friend of my dog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Initial Observation 1st trip with this tent canoeing in Northern Ontario in October for 5 days. The tent held up great to sustained strong winds (keep you awake, waiting for the tent to blow apart winds), our 4 season Hilleberg Kaitum set up broadside to the wind was much noisier. I worried more about the Papa but I didn't need to. My only concern with the tent is the nylon top of the tent body sticking to the fly creating a moisture friendly environment. On windless nights it was tricky to avoid moisture build up. Thinking of sticking something between the fly and tent to allow for more air flow. Maybe need to use all the guyout points?

Checking out the MSR Papa H for use in rocky areas where tent may not be completely staked: 1 Is this tent stable in these conditions? 2 Will netting keep out no-see-ums?

Asked by: Twinriver
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! With this tent, it works best when it's thoroughly staked. If it's not completely staked, it will still function, but we can't guarantee that the tent will be completely stable. As for the netting, MSR uses top quality, and I've never heard any problems with no-see-ums. You should be fine! Hope this helps you out!
