The MSR Mutha Hubba NX 3-Person Tent is a free-standing backpacking tent for three season, three person fun on the trail. MSR has taken the popular Mutha Hubba and not only added NX to the name, but made sure it was ultralight and had plenty of liveable space. The 4 lb, 7 oz tent is just under 2 pounds lighter than the previous model, which I bet your shoulders/back will totally appreciate. The single DAC Featherlite NSL pole is much easier to keep track of and preps the way for faster pitching. The 15D nylon micromesh on the tent body keeps little buggers on the outside while allowing for a cooling airflow, just pop the 20D ripstop nylon 1200mm Durashield™ polyurethane and silicone coated rainfly over top and you're protected from the rainstorm. The fancy raingutters on the fly help prevent drips as you enter/exit either of the two doors. The eight included MSR MiniGroundhog™ stakes keep everything grounded and the dual vestibules guyed out to protect your gear.

FEATURES of the MSR Mutha Hubba NX 3-Person Tent

  • Unique pole configuration maximizes headroom and elbow space throughout the tent
  • Set up and take down easily with a unified, color-coded hub-and-pole system; ultra-compact compression sack fits easily into a backpack
  • Two large StayDry™ doors help ensure water doesn't drip into the tent when doors are opened; two large vestibules store gear
  • Rainfly vents and venting vestibules help create a dry, comfortable interior
  • Fast & Light® setup option lets you use just the rainfly, poles and footprint (not included) to reduce the weight to 3 lbs. 4 oz. (1.46kg)
  • The MSR Mutha Hubba NX tent comes with a 20-denier?, high-tenacity ripstop nylon Durashield™ polyurethane- and silicone-coated rainfly

SPECIFICATIONS of the MSr Mutha Hubba NX 3-Person Tent

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of room I have a Hubba-Hubba that I had problems with during guiding trips. I felt very comfortable camping in the Mutha. It folds up small and is lightweight. Nice and roomy inside. I took it camping to see the eclipse in August at the Boise National Forest.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great tent It was super easy to spring for the mutha hubba over the hubba hubba its barely extra weight in the bag and alot of extra room. On the topic of room, when you compare MSR to other brands like REI and others it is hard to beat the floor space at the foot and head, you are not touching the walls of the tent at all. I love MSR!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dissapointed I have only used this tent 4 times during my 3 years of ownership. I was disapointed and feel MSR have mislead me on the fantastic weight claims because from new this tent requires extra rope and pegs from the standard kit to keep the tent fly taught enough to prevent the fly touching the tent inner. The tent fly fabric tends to stretch with moisture. This tent needs to be pitched out very firmly to prevent the fly contacting the tent inner. This design seems a little flawed. The tent floor seam tape is lifting and the tent pole velcro loops on the fly are only glued on and coming unstuck. This tent was an expensive purchase and has been stored dry loosely in a pillow case and is in terrible condition. This purchase was a waste of money, $800 and I have used it for 5 nights only, my smaller Blackwolf Grasshopper 2 tent is at least 6 years old, it has never been pampered for storing, has been used dozens of times, is in better condition without mantenance and costs about 1/2 the amount of money. I am not sure if I can be bothered to fix my failing Mutha Hubba Nx or just buy a new Grasshopper 3 instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent - once you get used to setting it up right My boys are getting older and we wanted to do longer backpacking excursions, so we picked up this light 3 man tent to complement the 2 man we already have. It's a great size and shape, and packs light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great space, Low Weight, Rain Fly isn't perfect Purchased this tent for a canoe trip my father and I take yearly. We are both pretty big guys so the "3" person Mutha was a must. For the 2 of us the size is perfect, we don't feel like we are carrying extra weight but also do not feel crammed in there. We have spent may rainstorms sitting in the tent and it has remained bone dry. (paired with the footprint) However sometimes moisture is pulled thru because our sleeping bags are touching the end of the tent.... but that isn't totally the tents fault. (we are both 6'5") The only "complaint" is the rainfly/pole structure could be slightly improved. I think this tent would benefit from from 2 more poles at the head and foot of the tent.(kind of like the papa hubba) In our experience you have to tighten the fly daily to keep the fly from touching the inside of the tent. Also I think the 2 extra poles would help pull the inner fabric tighter and the head and foot of the tent, which has a tendency to be loose. It would add weight but it would also increase interior space. All in all, this tent is a GREAT balance of having space and carrying minimal weight. Not 5 out of 5 only because the rainfly could use some work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice tent. Great lightweight and compact tent. Could be improved by having at least a couple of storage pockets along side of tent or overhead. A little concerned with waterproofness during heavy driving rain due to fly not coming down closer to ground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Tent My son and I just finished up a week long trip to the boundary waters in northern Minnesota. On our second night it poured. We were set up on a spot that wasn't so level.... we could hear the water running underneath our tent.....we stayed dry....there were others with us with similar tents not of the same quality and unfortunately they got wet.....MSR Mutha Huba is a great tent....!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Design Flaw Major Design Flaw! I am a highly experienced canoe tripper who buys high end gear and expects the very best from such gear and puts his gear through what it is designed to do. I bought this tent a year ago and have used it on 2 canoe trips in the interior of Algonquin Park. This tent is very light weight, lots of room, packs down small and is a breeze to set up; everything MSR claims it will be. The improvements MSR has made from previous models, which I have owned, such as ventilation improvements, door zipper location etc. are nice. BUT....... the fly touches the tent body! Major design flaw. On a spring and summer canoe trip it rained (condensation formed) and because of this flaw water drips down into the tent. Getting sleeping bags wet, not good on a spring trip where temps dipped to 0 degrees. I tried everything to get the fly off of the main body of the tent and could not do it. I contacted MSR and inquired if this problem will be rectified in future models and customer service was not sure and is unaware of when the next models will be coming out. I own lots of MSR gear and am a huge supporter of their products that is why it hurts me to write this. Check for similar reviews. Hopefully the newer models fix this. Gear research has begun....
