DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The This tent is absolutely the best backcountry tent I've ever had, or even used. The packed size is smaller than an average sleeping pad - and I mean, way smaller - and incredibly light. Holding it I can't believe I'm holding a tent at all. It fits into my pack and dry sacks wonderfully and takes up next to no space so I still have room for all of my other gear. I use this tent for backcountry canoeing at various parks but primarily Killarney, Algonquin, Quetico, and in the Temagami region (Ontario, Canada). The Carbon Reflex 3 holds up well in the backcountry of all of the aforementioned areas. I've used the tent for one camping season (spring-summer-fall 2017) and I have no abrasions on the bottom of the tent nor any tears or pulls in the mesh or on the rainfly. Note: always use the official MSR Carbon Reflex 3 tent footprint to help protect from abrasions and damage. I've also never had any water leakage. I have been stuck in numerous major thunderstorms with tremendous downpours - particularly in Killarney with those killer storms that come off Georgian Bay - and with rain for hours on end I've never had a single drop of water get inside the tent. I had water pooling under the tent and footprint and I could see puddles under the tent floor from's inside - but not one drop leaked through. Despite the Carbon Reflex series of tents having a lower waterproofing ratings for the tent floor compared to the Hubba series, I've not once found this to be an issue and like I said I've always stayed dry. All four corners can be tightly stacked out prior to pole assembly, allowing the tent to be setup exceptionally taut, with both the tent and the fly, which is how any good tent should be setup for best performance and waterproofing. The rainfly also comes down well below the mesh nearly to the ground, allowing for tight and secure configuration. Vestibules stake out right to the ground which provides great protection for packs and gear you need dry. Fantastic tent. 10/10

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Flimsy poles and glued on vecro tabs that fall off. The velcro tabs on the inside of the fly are only glued on, not stitched as they should be. They fell off in wind. One of the carbon poles broke. We now carry a spare. This tent needs to be more reliable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Roomy for 2 I purchased this product because of it's light weight. 4 stars because it isn't self supporting. (I understand that sacrifices are made for the weight savings but it would make it that much better.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Negative impression Hello, 4 days ago we used the tent for the first time going to Fire Island Wilderness, NY for 3 nights. While tent rain-fly provides with 8 loops to attach strings to stakes, the only 2 strings were found in a small bag with stakes. These 2 strings are simple two pieces of rope without loops or lengths adjustment( like all reputable tent manufacturers do include). My question is about that missing parts : are they missing or its a standard case ? Another issue was with all 4 inside pole attachments(zippers) made of Velcro that suppose to hold rainfly specifically on a center pole, they all were unglued and found on a floor after tent deinstallation. My question is : are they suppose to be sewn or glued to the rainfly? It looks like they were glued and not with a good quality glue. Should I send this 3 nights used tent for repair and get it back over 6 weeks with the same weaknesses ? Please, explain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very light but mesh quality not very good I bought this tent for its weight savings, which it is very light. However where the mesh joins the zippers for the door, the stitching is not the greatest especially for how much the tent costs. Within my first night of camping on the AT, the mesh ripped and tore away from the zipper. If they can beef up where the mesh joins the zipper to make it more durable, MSR would have a really awesome tent, but until then its not worth the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best general purpose tent on the market I've had a Carbon Reflex 3 for several years now. It's been on dozens of long haul gruelling and demanding hikes. I broke a pole once, but spare sleeve got me through the trip no problems, and MSR mailed replacement parts ASAP free of charge. I've never had any issue with condensation, been through wet, cold, light snow, storms, through mountains, interior, and coastal forests, etc. Tent has plenty of options to vent and ensure good air circulation, even with elements. This thing is a palace, it's massive, but still light. Sometimes I have a hard time finding enough flat space for the tent. I'm about to buy the 2016 model, looking forward to another incredible reduction in weight! Just need to decide between between the 2 or 3 at this point.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from we love our tagema tent as we call it. We purchased ours a few years ago and have spent many many nights in it. we did have a pole crack on us recently but returned it to MFG and they replaced it right away. Could not be happier

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Triumph of wishful thinking over sound engineering We used a Carbon Reflex 3 tent for cycle touring in France in 2013 and 2014. The only problem we encountered was condensation dripping through the inner mesh tent. Usually this happened when we were packing up although on one occasion, after a cold night, it started to rain heavily at about 5 am and the impact of the rain drops was enough to spray us with condensation. We packed up our sleeping bags and waited for dawn. Then in 2014, also in France, disaster struck. After a day away from the campsite we returned to find our tent partly collapsed. The weather had been showery with a stiff but not strong blustery wind. The campsite was sheltered. One of the poles had broken and ripped the fabric. When we carefully dismantled the tent it ripped further. The tent was beyond field repair and we had to dump it and buy a replacement. It seems that these events were started by the peg(there is only one) holding one of the doors out being pulled out by the blustery wind. In future I wouldn't buy a tent with carbon fibre poles or which was not made from ripstop fabric.
