Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Terrible vestibule, light weight I've use the MSR Carbon Reflex 1 person tent about 4 times now, the most recent being a 3 night backpack / summit of Mt Whitney in CA. I love the weight and size. Easy to set up. What I absolutely hate, is the fly / vestibule area. MSR didn't use a vestibule zipper (???? why)....but instead put to hook / loop pieces and three small sections of Velcro. FAIL. Big FAIL. The vestibule does not close completely...so wind and rain can flow right into the vestibule. It also makes it a pain to close, as you need to lean out of the tent, grab the vestibule sections with both hands and try to secure. Big pain. If MSR had used a zipper...it would make the tent so much better. As it is...with only one, leaky vestibule...I will now probably only use my MSR Hubba Hubba 2p tent....2 vestibules, zippered, and only slightly more weight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Overall good, but some features are disappointing I bought this tent for a solo trip to the Faroe Islands in the north Atlantic, where I have been camping with it for the past 2 weeks. Overall, it works well, but there are a few things that I am extremely disappointed in. PROS. As advertised, it is super light to carry, sets up easily, and keeps out the wet very well. In a rainy place like this, it got tested for sure, and held up. CONS. The BIG ISSUE that I have with this tent is the combination of velcro and clips that hold the fly door closed. This would be fine (though still a little annoying) in good weather, but in high wind it does NOT work well. The velcro comes apart in the wind, and once it does the clips are not long to follow. Several times I was woken up by the fly opening up in the wind and rain and had to put it back together. A zipper for the fly door would have been perfect. The other two are small ones. The footprint that goes with this tent does not line up properly with the tent itself. It required some interesting knotting of the loops to get the stakes to hold both the footoprint and the base of the tent taught when staking it out. There are also clips on the footprint that don't seem to go to anything. Finally, the tent did not come with enough stakes to stake out the tent AND the guy lines. Again, a simple thing, but if they had thrown in a few extra stakes, that would have been nice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Tent For The Ultra Lightweight Trekker I purchased this tent earlier this year and have now used it on a number of occasions. As a wilderness backpacker, I was attracted by the ultralight weight of the tent and its small size when packed which, by definition, means that this is a specialist tent and not for everyone. So far I have been more than satisfied with its performance , although there is one niggling point I would make. The vestibule entrance is closed by the use of clips and Velcro which, in all honesty is a design mistake. First, when actually in the tent, it is difficult bring both sides together in order to close the flap. Second, no matter how well the hooks and Velcro are closed, it leaves gaps and when it rains water can get in. The solution is quite simple, replace the hooks and Velcro with a zip, the extra weight would be negligible when compared to the improvement in performance. If it were not for that, I would give the product a five-star rating. I would also add that on the second night of using the tent, the small cross pole, at the top, suffered a catastrophic failure. The small connector that allows the two parts of the pole to fit together, disappeared down one of the poles, rendering the pole useless. Fortunately, I always carry some zip ties for emergency use and was able to cobble together a field repair, otherwise I would have spent a very uncomfortable night in the rain. At the first opportunity this was reported to MSR who sent a replacement pole immediately, but this is basic production quality control and should not have happened in the first place. All of that said, I have been a great fan of MSR for many years and would highly recommend this tent to anyone for whom weight is important.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tent, pole durability concerns however. Not many reviews of the 2016 model yet, I'll post a lengthier review when I actually take it backpacking or in poor conditions. I set it up the in the backyard and spent the night inside; it performed just great. Of course I didn't hoof it around backpacking, but it is extremely light and compact; I'm looking forward to shaving some weight with the fast and light setup when conditions are favorable for it. I have one major concern, which is regarding the carbon fiber poles. They are DELICATE. While I imagine they will provide a stable enough structure for the tent, I've already observed chipping where the poles collapse/mate. I even took extra care not to let them "snap" when collapsing (as mentioned by MSR's video) as I think most of us are used to with alloy poles, but it seems like its almost impossible not to let the ends abrade each other when folding them, causing small chips to break off. Unfortunately, I have difficulty expecting much durability out of the poles and I hope MSR will have replacements in the event of failure/premature wear (note: a pole repair segment is not included). Secondly, if you know anything about carbon fiber, you definitely do not want them to be rubbing against anything, period. I have two concerns here, one is that where the poles meet at the top of the tent, there is no sort of swivel joint between them, they rest on each other, carbon on carbon. Also, as my picture exhibits, I was unable to get the groundsheet (fast and light setup) grommet to hold securely enough to the tent pole end. MSR needs to redesign this so that the grommet does not ride up the pole. Unless I'm pitching it incorrectly, the instructions for tent setup are rather sparse and the only information on pitching just the rainfly is in MSR's video above. I already have doubts about the durability of the poles, and the metal on carbon here is a big concern for me in the long run. Overall, I think this tent is going to perform great. The tent fabrics feel great, weight is minimal and I find it quite roomy (note that I'm 5' 6"), especially for a 1p tent. Rainfly height is good and coverage over the tent makes me anticipate no rain leaking in. I expect actual backcountry performance to be great. Durability, though always an afterthought with ultralight gear, is a greater concern than it should be with this tent, specifically the poles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A superb choice I've had one of these for a while now and every time it comes out it always pleases me, its light and very easy to pitch, its stable and doesn't flap around in the wind. It pitches inner first which in the UK can be an issue but as it takes so little time to put up it doesn't get too wet. The separate fly means that you can pack the inner in a different bag and keep it dry. A very choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome product! I've had my 1 man Ultralight for about 4 years now and absolutely love it. I have camped in it extensively and have never had a problem or a leak of any sort. It has been through some rough terrain and never failed on me. I love it and highly recommend it!
