Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, durable, and well built While these may not be the lightest pair of pots around, they still hold their own against the competition. I agree with the previous reviewer who stated that the lack of a non-stick coating is a plus: every non-stick coating I have ever seen comes off over time even if you only use plastic utensils. For the sake of durability (not to mention that I'd prefer not to eat flakes of non-stick coating), I'd rather not have the coating in the first place. The included pot lifter works quite well: you don't really even have to squeeze it to lift the pots, and it holds them stably and securely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best cookset I know of. The Alpine 2 cook set goes backpacking or car camping with me every time I go into the woods. I like it so much I bought a set for each of my sons. Heavily used for the last 18 years, the set meets all of my cooking needs with one exception. I added the Alpine fry pan to each set so I can fry fish, eggs, bacon, you name it without burning. Two years ago I was given a Solo Stove which nests inside the set and seems to be designed to work perfectly with the Alpine 2 cook set. I'm glad MSR continues to offer this, because it is the best set for the money period.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Go To Pot Set for the Backcountry This pot kit has gone with me on numerous outings, and has stood the test of time. I can honestly say that I have used it on almost every outing with the exceptions of a few that I wanted something smaller and lighter weight (see the MSR Titan Kettle). They are very well built and can take a scraping with anything. The absence of a non-stick coating is one of it's best features, as I find it hard to be without solid utensils all the time. The lid also acts as a make shift fry pan, making this an actual 3 piece set. Another one of my favorite features is the pot holder, definitely my favorite of all the separate clamp style. If you are looking for a bomb proof very versatile pot set, this is the one for you. If you also want it lightweight, check the MSR Titan series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome 2 Pot Steel Set This 2 pot set is perfect for use with a partner or a small group and will work well with most all stoves on the market. I have used mine and have had no trouble making backpack meals or boiling water. I have had a few cases where food has burned onto the pot, but that is more user error and it can be cleaned off with a little work if it happens. My pots still look very new even after all this.,,,,The pots come with a lid and a pot grabber that are essential and work seamlessly with the rest of the items in the kit. The lid can double as a frying pan if desired, but I have not used it in this way before to say if it works well or not. All of the pieces store into an included stuff sack. This is also a good place to store some cleaning supplies and utensils since there is plenty of extra room. Also consider only bringing 1 pot if weight really is an issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Years of durability and use I have had a set of MSR-Alpine pots for years. I have used them on over two years of recorded camping, owning them for over sixteen years. Extreme camping in high winds with poor cooking flames, Extremely warm environments, wet caves to extreme colds with bitter snow. Surviving being banged on, scraped, dragged and beaten. These are extremely hardy pots.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mmmmm, I could recommend it Much can not be said of this rudimentary alpine set...,,The good: ,,Unbreakable ,,Not have any non-stick coating, not to worry about cleaning ,,Lightweight, not the lightest on the market, but lightweight. ,,,,The bad, but improvement: ,,The handle could have another design that uses less material to make it lighter. ,,,,Good!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pots work well Tested on a back packing trip to False Cape State Park in VA where only stoves are allowed. Pots worked great, but lid deformed a bit when I used it as a pan. Next trip it will be tested on a campfire which is my preferred method of cooking. Grabber works well with MSR pots but not so well with another pan I had.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great of you're not looking for ultralight This set isn't what I would consider "heavy"bit it absolutely isn't ultralight either, it's more along the lines of the study Coleman camp cook sets from the early 90's. Weight is a trade off considering the strength and obvious quality. Would've been. 5 star except for 3 relatively minor issues: 1. The finish is the anodized look that's prone to scratching off. While this may give it character as being well enjoyed, it always bother me that it could lead to rust on long, wet trips. 2. You won't confuse this with a over the top nonstick set. I managed to get (very) lightly oiled tortillas stuck while teaching camp cooking to scouts. Nothing horrible, honestly the solo stove I was using cooks a little hotter than most. But it does bring up considerations of maintenance while on the trail. 3. This is actually my biggest gripe. First off, I DO like the kit and would recommend it, but the pot lid isn't a perfect fit for the skillet and that just became an annoyance while trying to cook with it.

What are the weights of the individual pieces? I am thinking I could leave 1 pan behind when I wanted to travel lighter... Also, does the lid/fry pan still have slots in the lip so I could use a shoelace strap to keep the whole unit together?

Asked by: Pedal pastor
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! I had to bust on down to the Returns section to weigh these suckers....but it was totally worth it. They're a good bunch of folks. So, the 1.5 L pot will be 6.4 oz, and the 2 L pot will be 7.2 oz. The lid is 4.8 oz. And, yes, the lid will also have slots so you can use a strap to keep them together. Also, you do get a stuff sack with these! Hope this helps you out.
