Rated 3 out of 5 by from Best jeans ever... until now. I've been wearing the Levi's Commuter jeans day-in and day-out, in the rain, at work, at play, every day since they came on the market. Best jeans I'd ever owned. Until this year. This year Levi's decided to stop re-enforcing the crotch, went with a knock-off anti-stain / anti-odor coating, increased the rise, and (I think) widened the leg. So they're cheaper to make, lower quality, and fit worse. And they're the same price as before. Seems like Levi's doesn't realize that there are now a bunch of competitors in the commuter clothes market…

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Why mess with perfection, Levis? The 511 Commuters *were* pretty much the perfect bike commuter jeans - well priced, with plenty of great features. The fit was trim, with a nice stretchy fabric blend that made them easy to move in. The small leg holes kept them away from your chainrings, and the fabric treatments resisted grime and odors. They were a pleasure to ride to work in. Now, they've taken a huge step backward. The waist runs smaller this year, with big legs that brush against your chain and get grease everywhere. The fabric is terrible - the stretch is gone, the indigo dye ends up on your hands and clothes, and it doesn't breathe at all. There's no special reinforcement in the crotch. Basically, these are just a pair of ill-fitting 511s with a u-lock loop (which I never use) and some reflective bits.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rip easily The reason for the purchase was because most of my pants rip around the crouch area after about 1-2 years and I thought that these commuter jeans would last longer because of the reinforced crouch. However, within a year of use, my pants almost got ripped in two pieces when I was stepping off my bike, which was very annoying as I had to go back home from work and get another pair. I'm very displeased with this product and although the crouch is reinforced, these pants last much shorter than just regular cheaper brands. Plus it is impossible to stitch them back together as the pant almost ripped in half.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Levi's.....you're not serious..... are you? I would like to preface this by saying the 511 commuter WAS the most versatile denim on the market. The demographic ranged from cyclists to cultural tastemakers. The fit (again) WAS superior because of the sensitivity addressed in the cut, specifically concerning the taper down to the ankle. All I am asking is that you address this issue immediately, since your current product is obviously not offering the same quality. I have spent an entire day hunting down a pair of 1st or 2nd generation commuters to no avail. From what I am reading, the people who are purchasing these are returning customers who are as disappointed as I am in this lackluster effort. I will wear my current 511's until they become rags before I am forced to purchase this inferior denim's excuse to be called a 511 commuter...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don't Understand I purchased another pair now that my last ones were beat up, but after wearing them for a bit I realized they were totally different. No longer having the reinforced crotch is just a total bummer for me. I'll keep wearing them because I purchased and wore them already, but unless the original design comes back I will be on to another company. I used to get compliments on the slim fit and look of the old pair once they were nice and broken in, but this will no longer happen with the awkward material where it used to taper in in the legs. I also have a feeling the color will not wear the same way as I walked into the store and all three employees were shocked at how good the old commuters broke in. Please bring them back!! Still love Levi, but I won't be back for any reason unless the originals are back anytime soon.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible new cut of the perfect cycling jeans The commuter jeans used to be the best pair of cycling jeans in the market. That all changed with the latest iteration, which has been designed to fit large people driving SUVs. The legs are too wide and get stuck in the chain, the cut loose and ugly. The only working detail left are the reflective strips inside the leg, which you lose when you have to re-tailor the legs skinnier. Bring back the old model and I will buy again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Been wearing these jeans since launch, they're useless now I have no idea what happened here. The original cycling 511s were the best jeans I ever had on or off the bike and I put thousands of miles on them. They've completely redesigned these jeans so that the fit is poor and constrictive, especially in the quads, and painful on the crotch seam, and the high rise which used to cover butt crack is now lower. Horrible in every way, absolutely useless for cycling.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please bring old design back! I bought several pairs of 511 computer since they launched. Having the commodity of just going to the shop grab a pair, pay a leave because you know what you are getting and you want the same again! Unfortunately these jeans are not the same as they used, there is, no longer a reinforced crotch area, they are not a slim fit and the fabric seams to be of a lower quality. They are a fine pair of jeans, just not the same. PLEASE BRING ORIGINAL DESIGN BACK!!

There were two iterations of these jeans- one with a standard stitched crotch, and one with a double layer, double stich. Which are these?

Asked by: 69chicagobullsfan420
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Love your screen name. Clearly, you're a fan of the 1969 Chicago Bulls too!! Who was your favorite?? Clem "The Gem" Haskins? Bob "Butterbean" Love, Jerry "The Original Bull" Sloan!?!? No...wait. It's Utah native, coach Dick Motta, right? Ah...good times. So, these are the standard stitched crotch. When the double stitch is used, it will be marked as such in the product name. Hope this helped you out!!
