The La Sportiva Spantik Boot is a double boot for high peaks and cold mountaineering conditions. Where one boot is good, two better. You don't wear just one layer on your body, so why would you treat your feet with anything less? Of course there is certainly a time and place for other options, but the inner and outer boot combination offered by the Spantik is top-notch when it comes to warmth. Speed lacing on both helps decrease the time it takes to pile on the gear, plus the outer boot is step-in crampon compatible. Gotta love those heel and toe welts. The rubber rand protects against the harsh terrain and a Vibram® Montagna outsole is durable and tough. Time to start checking those peaks off your list.

FEATURES of the La Sportiva Spantik Boot

  • Toasty inner boot features micro-perforated thermo-formable PE/water-repellant lorica with antiacqua external coating and a minimal outsole plate on the bottom for durability
  • A warmer alternative to the baruntse, it is step-in crampon compatible, and a proven performer for north faces, winter alpinism and long periods at altitude
  • Innovative fast lacing system for inner and outer boots allows one- handed, glove closure, even in the most heinous conditions
  • Perfect for 6-7000 meter peaks or anywhere that you need a toasty warm performance fit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got me to the top of South America's Highest Point - Aconcagua @ 6962 Meters!! These boots rock! My wife and I both wore them to the top of Mt Elbrus in Russia in July 2010 (5642 meters) and Aconcagua in March 2011 (6962 meters). We never had cold feet - stayed dry - and the fit is fantastic. We've worn them on training climbs and our incline trainer and as long as you listen to your feet - you won't get hot spots, just pay attention and adjust the lacing as needed. The super easy to adjust lacing system works well even when wearing heavy mitts. Bring an extra lace with you though - if you blow a lace you may have trouble repairing it!!! We're considering using them on Denali next season - possibly with an overboot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Total Package!! (Sizing Info) These boots are all around amazing. The lacing system is a breeze. You can lace these boots with gloves on in about 15 seconds. The inner boot comes out and goes back in with ease and is great for wearing inside the tent, or for a quick walk around the camp. Now for the sizing.. I am an exact U.S. 10.5 which for this boot would be a 44. You will want to go up one full size. I purchased a 44.5 and had to return it and get a 45 (One full size). Remember that you don't want your toes banging the the front especially when you are kicking. I wore these in the freezer at work (-20) degrees for 4 hours and my feet were very warm the entire time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Bang for your Buck!! My brother & I used these boots while climbing Mt Rainier. I also used them on several really icey hikes in Arizona mountains. They surpassed my expectations with traction. ,,,,The lace-up system on the inner boot never loosened & the outer system, shoot, you can't beat how easy it is. I could work it with gloves on & when you're 12,000 ft up, pelted by 40+ winds & freakin COLD out the last thing you want to do is remove gloves to work a pair of boots! ,,,,Comfort wise, they were real good. Spent six days on Mt Rainier in them, no issues... Even on Rainier in the dead of winter on summit day they keep your feet warm so use summer socks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cadillac of a Climber With the thermo-form inner bootie and innovative lacing system, this boot is a good edition to anyone aspiring to hit the summit on any cold or technical route. While not as sensitive while climbing as the Nepal Evo, if you are heading for the "heady" heights or suffer from cold feet, this is a great option if the "last" fits.,,Only issue would be forming the inner boot (for which La Sportiva provides no instructions and plus, if you've ever stuck $700 in the oven just for fun, you'll know the terror of trying to warm those inners up!) but after being properly fitted and paired with your favorite crampon, they are like an angry, warm, bionic, rope gun making sweet love to your front points.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Currently the best dbl on the market...for the moment No question the warmest dbl boot I have used. Climbs really well on steep ice and rock and you cna walk in them. Most of the big boys are using them on anything cold and extreme. Check out the pics. However on Nanga Parbat, House used Sportiva's Nuptse not the Spantik. Another good boot so ya just gotta give credit where it is due. though I suspect he didn't have a choice at the time Spantik's lace system takes a bit of getting use too. Eyelets keep popping off the inner boots on mine but the outer laces on the newest version don't break like they did last year. Still a few wrinkles to iron out for Sportiva to get it right but at the moment nothing else on the market is close to t

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm technical boot These boots climb vertical ice super well. They're super warm. They look like moon boots. You can ski with them. Funky lacing system, not convinced that they won't break at some point. The sizing is interesting too, a bit more snug than other Sportiva boots. I'm a 10-10.5 street shoe, 44 in the Baruntse and Trango, 44.5 in the Trango Extreme and the 44.5 Spantik's I have are more snug in the toes than any of the others. Still, no problems with cold feet, will try thermo molding them at some point when I'm feeling very brave. I asked a La Sportiva rep about the process and he basically couldn't offer any advice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Cool Boots Ok, so they cost $700 bucks, that is a lot of money!! They are (like all La Sportiva) hand made and very well built. The lace system is a little weird at first but once you get it, they lace up fast. I was worried after reading all these reviews on the internet that the laces where cheap and would break. They seam pretty good so far. I will however bring a back up pair with me on trips. Also, the majority of the lace ups are plastic, ie. won't freaze to your hands. But I think to myself, ok how long is this going to last, I would hope for a while since the boot cost is so high. I would buy them again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boot; Great style;Great Comfort; Great Buy Bought these boots on recommendation and have not been dissapointed. Contrary to other reviews, no issue with back tab for pulling boot on and this has not snapped off. Love the lace mechanism- really saves time and can really put on boots wearing mits; inner boot very snug. Only downside; look to see when you would be wearing these and when you may need all in one boot system ala La Spotiva Mons as we have had to buy these as well for colder mountains. Proof of how good- we bought the same all in one boot system from la Sportiva as they are made on same last and fit great!

Any chance you will be getting a size 38 of this boot in?

Asked by: Cynthia
Hiya Cynthia, thanks for your question! We are expecting to get more of those in, but we are not sure when that will be. As soon as they are back in stock in our warehouse or made available to special order they will be posted on our website. Your best bet would be to check back periodically. Sorry I don't have more info!

La Sportiva footwear is built and offered on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This gives them four extra sizes per size run, and ultimately gives you a better fit.

Please review La Sportiva's size conversion chart above to help determine your ideal size. Below you will find additional information about how to fit and break in the different styles of La Sportiva footwear, which will also help guide you to the correct size.

• As a general rule soft shoes like climbing shoes require a tighter fit, or about two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva recommends you fit your trad climbing shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva offers a lot of lasts, and each offers a different fit and feel. Remember to factor in potential stretching.
• Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch a bit more than lined shoes, or about one full size.
• Lined shoes stretch about a half size.

• PERFORMANCE FIT - offers a high performance fit and a downturned last.
• TECH FIT - a more technical fit and a last with neutral profile.
• COMFORT FIT - a comfortable fit and a last with more volume and a neutral profile.

• Find your US Size in the guide above, then find the Euro Size conversion and add one half size.
• The ideal size holds your toes ever so slightly away from the front of the boot while the lacing system is snug across the top of your arch.
• If you can try to boots on beforehand, make sure you wear the same size and weight socks you would typically wear with the boots, and any orthotics or custom footbeds you use.
• It is ideal to fit boots later in the day since feet are prone to swell slightly as a day progresses.
• Wear your boots indoors only until you are confident about the fit.
• Your foot should feel snug (not tight) from the arch back into the heel pocket with just a minimum lift as you walk. If your heel lifts make sure the lacing is snug and not too loose.
• Your toes should NOT touch the front of the boot, but when you kick the toe into the floor, you should know where the front of the boot is. You want just enough room to wiggle your toes.
• If your toes or sides of your feet feel squished, most likely the width is too narrow and the boot will not work for you.
• If your toes touch the front of the boot, most likely it is too short and you need the next half size up.
• Make sure to keep all original packaging that came with your boots until you are sure that you are happy with your purchase.
