Rated 2 out of 5 by from Defective? I love the color of these sneaker and Hoka is great for my plantar fasciitis. These are the only sneakers I can run in, pain free. This pair is no different. Here's the problem - there is this plastic sticking out inside the shoe that is directly on top of your toes. If you look at the top of the sneaker where the orange ends and the dark purple begins but inside the shoes, is this uncomfortable strip of plastic that sticks into your toes. I like to wear my sneakers without socks, but you cannot do that with these sneakers, because of that strip. Even with socks, it sticks into your toes. If it wasn't for that, these sneakers would be perfect.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had to send back :( I wanted this shoe for light hiking/walking on rocky trails. Love the aggressive tread and sole design plus it is a very cool looking shoe. However, like some of the other reviewers, I found the forefoot much too narrow. I wore the shoes around the house for a couple of hours and my feet hurt for at least that long after taking the shoes off. I sent them back the next day. For what it's worth, I have 2 pair of Claytons in size 8, a pair of Clifton 3s in 8-1/2, and Tor Summit hiking boots in 8-1/2 and I LOVE all of those shoes! The Instincts were 8-1/2 and the length was as expected. If you have any tendency towards a wider forefoot, I would recommend avoiding these shoes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS SHOE!!! I have had several people tell me about these shoes I have a mortons neuroma and have a hard time finding shoes wide enough in the toe area so it doesn't squeeze my toes and irritate my mortons neuroma. these shoes fit perfect their true to size and the toe area allows my toes to splay. they are light weight and very comfortable the best running/walking shoe I have ever had they are well worth the money,i was a runner for many years for my job and I always bought Asics because the were very giving with the mesh material, but these Hokas beat Asics 10 to 1 I highly recommend them....I will be getting another pair soon in a different color

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low-key midsole trail success!!! LOVE this shoe! It's my first Hoka I've ever owned and I'm more than pleased with it! I used it on trails but I kinda expect a shoe to do it all. By that, I mean I also wear it to the gym and at work. I'm not a huge runner, I'm more of the outdoorsy hike/climb type and this shoe makes me want to run around! It feels unlike any shoe I've tried and I'm hooked on it. Love the design and the laces. I was a die-hard Brooks Cascadia fan but these changed me forever. Thanks Hoka for making a great trail shoe!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from wonderful but... I think this is a wonderful shoe with one big problem, for me and it would appear some others, from the reviews I should have paid attention to: the shoe is too tight in the forefoot, which is a big shame as the cushioning in the forefoot is also, for me, terrific and my reason for trying it. Have been enjoying the Claytons for a year and hoped these would be a bit more nimble and suitable for trail races but unless they loosen up a bit in the forefoot I guess they will be heading for recycling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Trail Shoe with Comfort and Style I need a shoe with a wide toe box and this shoe delivers just that....needed no break-in time... Comfortable right out of the box... First run was an 8 mile trail run with 1400 feet of elevation gain... single track and double track trail... love the cushion in the heal on down hill....Was hesitant after looking at he soles on how good the traction would be.... very pleased with them on the dirt/gravel/rocks/roots and grassy trail that I used them on. Still want to try them out on a wet/muddy trail to see how the traction is...would love to be able to use them for OCR races... if they pass the wet/muddy trail test.... Love the shoes so far....Gave the shoe only 4 stars pending wet/muddy trail trial run....

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Close to perfect... but... I am an avid trail runner with 8 different pairs of shoes in the current queue (two of them Hokas). This is by far my favorite... I want it to be my only shoe. The PRO2Lite technology makes the shoe super springy, well cushioned, highly responsive and nimble. Great for technicals, downhills, and just plain having fun. I've actually set a few PRs in it- I swear it just makes me want to run faster. BUT, the forefoot is too tight - it rubs and and starts to chafe around the 12 mile mark. The sides are also splitting along the forefoot. I talked to the folks at my local running store, and they said they are getting quite a few blowouts. Perhaps this is because Hoka made it too tight in the first place? Not sure. But a few extra millimeters width, and a little more durability, and this is the absolute perfect shoe. Would recommend once we get a wider shoe for longer runs!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Insole is HOT, but the rest is fine The shoes ride like the Clayton, but I thought the included Ortholite insole, though cushy, was to hot. I had to size up half a size (to avoid toe squish) and bought the men's version because the women's colors are terrible as usual. I normally wear a women's 8.5 and I bought a men's 7.5. I changed out the insole for a more ventilated and lower profile one from a retired pair of shoes and the shoe functioned much better. The rubber on the sole is super grippy and I like how it goes up the outside of the shoe a bit like a fat tire.
