Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, lightweight shoe! This is an excellent, light weight shoe. I often struggle with some Hoka designs because the toe box is too wide. I wear a size 6, and I feel like some of the shoes tend to run too wide for my feet. I loved the Clifton 1 (do not so much love the Clifton 2), and have been looking for a similar shoe to the springiness that was the Clifton 1. I have found it with this shoe and will order it again. However, if you have a wider foot - this shoe runs tight. The toe box is narrow, at least in the US size 6. This is why I chose it - I saw other reviews saying it ran tight. It's great on long runs - either street or dirt. It was a little slippery on mud, but I was going downhill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 27 Miles First Run in Hoka Challenger 2 I ran in my brand new Hoka Challenger 2 trail shoes for an unanticipated 27 miler in the hills of Ashland, Oregon. I climbed 6,000 feet and also had some good downhill. Shoes are amazing, good cushion, no blisters and improved padded tongue.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from HATE the fit of the 2016 update First off, I LOVED the 2015 version of the Challenger ATR. The first pair I ordered last year was a smidge too short - half size up was perfect. I wore them for a fall road marathon, and kept wearing them until about June of this year. I will say, wearing a shoe for 9 months (both trail and road running, and winter running) is unheard of for me. The soles and uppers were still in good shape, but it felt like they'd lost the special cushion. So, I order the Challenger ATR 2. The fit seemed much narrower in the forefoot, but I thought they'd loosen up after a few runs. I don't know if it's the tight fit, cheaper materials, or a combination of both, but the fabric of both uppers are splitting (inside and outside) right at the ball of my foot, and on the right shoe my big toe has poked a hole in the upper. They just seem cheaper all around, and the narrower fit across the forefoot adds to the stress. I find the update uncomfortable and disappointing. I'm wearing thin socks now... there's no way I'll be able to wear these this winter with Smartwools. Hoping Hoka takes the fit back to the original ATR - a wider toe box was what attracted me to the brand in the first place. If anyone out there has a pair of 5.5's in the 2015 model they want to sell, let me know. I've scoured the internet and can't find any of the old style in my size.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from pretty decent I like this style -- less moon boot looking. I got the astral purple and like that. Just finished my 10k steps. My feet are doing okay but they are not very cushy as some Hokas. My last year pair is perfect, these are not so much. I do like the mesh on top though, and I love the darker bottoms.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Weird Sizing, Narrow Toe Box I use the Challenger ATR 2 for marathon training on a treadmill and road running with parts of my route on a green belt with mulch, so the added traction helps. I love the max cushioning, keeps the bottom of my feet happy! The toe box is narrow and my pinky toes go numb after mile 2. Also the sizing is weird, I usually wear an 8 1/2 in athletic shoes and had to size down to an 8, my narrow feet were sliding around in the 8 1/2. However, the 8 is a little short, but no black toe. The mid-section of the sole is soft and feels good, but wears quickly, noticed it after one road run.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great All Around She I have primarily stuck with road running in the past, but started to branch out into trail running recently. These have been amazing, now that I live in a rural area where roads go from concrete, to gravel, and dirt within the first couple miles of my run. The shoes have given me more confidence and helped to push my running to the next level.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Heavy I used to run with the 2015 Hoka Challenger ATR, liked the shoe, needed another pair so I went with the ATR 2. I like the comfort, the cushion and the style but the shoe seemed heavy and would tire my legs rather quickly. I run roughly 25+ miles a week and I'm currently training for a 13.1 and prefer to have a lighter weight shoe.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Im a runner trail and road really like this shoe So far I have run 5/6 times in these shoes a mix of road and trail and find them very comfy they have a good arch support and traction seems good I like the feel on trails also because they are not too platform they feel secure... don't find any cons so far
