Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hallelujah! Hoka is making a normal width shoe again!!! Finally, after wearing and loving Hokas for six years, then enduring the past two years of narrow Hokas, I am happy. Why did the maker of the world's most comfortable shoe suddenly begin making all their shoes so tight that your feet fall asleep and the pain becomes unbearable. I wear Hokas because I stand in my job for 10-14 hours a day. I was about to give up on the brand (The new Bondi 5 is horribly tight). Then I saw this shoe reviewed. People all commented that it was wide enough again. I took a chance and I LOVE IT! My Hokas are back. Hoka, please take note. I have a normal D width foot. I could no longer wear your shoes because you made the upper fabric too small and tight. These Stinson's seem to get it right. Thank you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great trail shoes for easy trails and dirt roads I use this Hoka model for running on trails that are not technical. They are not well suited for technical trails due to the high platform for stability. Can roll an ankle if not conscious while running.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yes, I would purchase this item again. I was looking for a Hoka shoe that was wider in the toe box than the Hoka ATR Challenger 3, for a long backpacking trip on the Colorado Trail. The Stinson ATR 4 was that shoe. I was able to use this shoe carrying 75 to 80 pounds in a backpack, and my feet and legs appreciated the cushioning and comfort of the wider toe box of this shoe. On rough terrain and loose rocks, I had plenty of grip and stability. Even with swollen feet after long days of hiking, my feet never suffered. I have used Hoka shoes since they first came out, way back with the Hubble, over six years ago. I used that shoe on my run across the grand canyon. I am glad Hoka has listened to the people who pushed for wider shoes in their various product lines. I also want to shout out to Stuart Jenkins, the man who brought Hoka to fruition an to Deckers Outdoor. Without him, there would be no Hoka shoes. Keep up the good work on the Stinson and perhaps make the ATR Challenger a bit wider in that tor box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hoka One One - Stinson ATR 4 Trail Review! I haven't run in a Stinson ATR since the beginning of Hoka One One predating Decker taking ownership. It was my first with Hoka and changed my life... well, forever! Since making my way back to trail running I've only had experience with the first Speedgoat and love that shoe although the second release is not true to size and the 14 (largest size they make) is now too small for me to wear. This left me desperate for an alternative and therefore led my back to my origins, the ATR. The shoe has come a long way since its leather bound predecessor. It's well thought out, has a great upper mesh and toe guard and the lugs are more purposeful. I also noticed better support through the heel of the shoe. Surprisingly, the shoe still has that Hoka trademark cushion throughout the stride and that makes my 50 year old frame very happy! All that said, time to put shoe to trail! I found this hidden gem just outside Burlington, North Carolina called Shallow Ford Natural Area and the trail system is Haw River Trail. This is an expert level trail with all the wanted excitement of sharp rocks, roots, hard switchbacks, elevated (slippery) bridges, creek crossings, elevation and narrows up pretty close on some tricky slops. Needless to say, this pushed me and the shoe to the limit. Initially, the shoe made easy work of the rocks and roots with little to no discomfort throughout the platform. After a couple miles I did notice the shoe felt looser (breaking in) and rolled my foot both ways on a couple off-camber hills. After stopping and tightening the laces, problem eliminated. Regardless, it's a higher stack height and will never offer perfect stability on more challenging conditions, but the ride is well worth the trade-off!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from perfect except for the heavy overlay covering the toe box I'm a longtime Hoka fan and have tried many shoes from the brand's lineup, including the Challenger ATR, Bondi (going all the way back to the Bondi speed), Clifton, Speedboats, and several pairs of the original Stinsons. Recently, I veered away from the brand as the toe box became narrower and narrower, and the quality and durability of of the midsoles seemed to be lacking. My brother purchased a pair of the Stinson 4s and after hearing him declare them the best shoe Hoka has made, I decided to try them. I bought an 11.5 and immediately fell in love. The width and cushioning were spot on and they handled extremely well on technical trails. But after 3-4 miles through my first run, I noticed that the heavy overlay covering the toe box began to rub the top of my toes when the foot was flexed. The problem only exacerbated during my second run. Thinking that it might have been a sizing problem (i.e. too much volume in the forefoot, resulting in excess material rubbing my foot), I returned the shoes and purchased an 11. Unfortunately, I experienced even more rubbing with the smaller size. I am really disappointed because I thought these shoes were otherwise absolutely perfect, but it looks like I'm not going to be able to use them without dealing with the hot spot in the toe box. I surveyed other online forums and noticed that other runners were experiencing the same issue, so hopefully this gets addressed. If Hoka could eliminate the thick overlay in version 5 and replace it with a mesh covering a la the Challenger, I'd buy these again in a heartbeat. Until then, these shoes won't be for me. Really bummed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a great shoe! I have worn Hokas since 2011 and this if the first shoe I have really liked since the discontinued Mafate 3s and Stinson Trails. It is wide in the right places, like the ball of the foot area. Roomy toe box and very comfortable too. This shoe is even wider than my Bondi 4 Wides, and it comes in a normal width only. It has a great tongue similar to a gusseted tongue that does not allow rocks and dirt to get in. Nothing comes in on top of the shoe either, so there is no need for gaiters. This is by far Hokas best trail or road shoe, and it can be used on any surface. Great traction on trails and plenty soft any road. It looks super durable too, but time will tell. Many new Hokas are still way too narrow and unfortunately the shoes are getting more firm, this is a true running shoe gem in the 2017 Hoka line up. All the runners that moved on to the company with a wider toebox may want to give this shoe a run. I can only hope that when they update this Stinson ATR it does not get stripped down by trying to make it lighter, or the nice soft midsole becomes firm and the shoe becomes narrower again. Please leave it alone Hoka, its perfect!
