Rated 4 out of 5 by from From skeptic to desperate to impressed I was definitely skeptical of the whole brand when they first came out, like many others. But they gained popularity and started making soles that weren't just white (with size 15s it would look like running on two temperpedic mattresses). Then I got desperate as I started struggling with both plantar fasciitis (a little) and mostly achilles tendonitis. I tried about 5 or 6 different shoes or brands and nothing was really helping. Hoka looked more appealing for the cushion... but they are just really expensive. I decided, after saving up, I would give them a try because of their 30 day guarantee. It's been longer than 30 days, I only just crossed over 100 miles, but I have had no major flare ups of the achilles tendonitis with the combo of the Gaviotas and some stick massages! I will probably make the commitment to stick with Hokas for a long time!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from High expectations, A true believer, It misses the mark Been a Hoka fan for years at least 15-18 pairs. Most recently the last three gens of Cliftons. I overpronate but not horribly. Reading the specs, maybe this is for me....I'm 210 lbs , run 35 miles per week, knee and hip issues. Hoka made running fun. Put 3 quick miles on one evening, 3 the next morning. Horrible calf pain, maybe the drop is different than Cliftons, NO. Did another 4, 10k runs. Knees sore, hips sore, forefoot pain from a really stiff sole. I think these would be good for heel strikers. Not me. they are going back. They are not cushy at all like a clifton or bondi. And they are noticeable heavy in a size 12. I really wanted to love them, but they made me hate my runs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 1st run with Gaviota's Enjoyed my first run in the Gaviota, what was intended as a slow recovery run turned into a strong tempo fast run. My legs felt strong and loved the cushioned foot strike.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Once again bad fit Would be a good shoe if they made it wide enough. Once again it's a Hoka shoe that is too narrow in the toe box and they don't make a wide in this shoe. If it wasn't for this I probably would've kept them. I've never had to look at wides in any other brand of shoe. Constant issue with Hoka.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As prescribed by the doctor My doctor suggested Hoka for plantar fasciitis. Indeed, I found Gaviota to be dynamically transferring the stress point forward thus minimizing the impact force. These shoes are wide enough to accommodate thick wool socks with medium width foot. I had to use Asics Kayano 2E (wide) previously, and injured the foot despite comparable static (but not dynamic!) cushioning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Due Diligence - You Should Love Gaviota's! One foot severely overpronates, the other supinates. I've worn Hoka One One Mafate 4 Speed and Clifton 3 during half marathons. These haven't proven to be supportive enough for my feet. Eventually they began to thrash my knees. I've logged over 600 miles in Conquest 2; they seem very good for support/stability. Vanquish 2 were only good for casual wear. Clearly I cannot wear neutral shoes. I have only logged two 5K runs in Gaviota, but am extremely pleased. I was wearing Brooks Addiction 12, but didn't feel anywhere near the same level of cushioning offered by Gaviota. I am 20-25# overweight at the present, and have had three knee 'scopes due to cartilage tears. I have had heel spurs and plantar fasciitis in the past. Gaviota allows me to continue to pursue my passion for running. My feet are medium to wide, and Gaviota accommodates them perfectly. They are NOT narrow, as stated in some reviews. Those who think so plainly need wide shoes. The cushioning is dynamic and responsive. The level of cushioning does slow you down; does not appear to absorb enough energy to slow you down. The upper material is supportive, yet lightweight and breathable. It is similar to the Vanquish 2, yet more substantial without adding noticeable weight. I LOVE the Gaviota, and recommend them to others with similar physical conditions.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The toebox and distal midfoot are MUCH TOO TIGHT!!! I purchased the shoes for long walks. Right out of the box these shoes were much too tight and very uncomfortable. I had to send the back. Maybe someday Hoka will realize that their shoes are too narrow!!! What exactly is the purpose of make a shoe that too narrow?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An EXCELLENT Stability shoe This shoe made a huge difference for me, I've been running for 6 yrs and recently developed Plantar Fasciitis in one foot. Stopped running for a little over a month and did a fair bit of research and purchased a Nike stability shoe. The Nike's helped but after 2 months I still had issues after running, especially the longer runs. By this time the Gaviota's came out and I followed some of the reviews. I had 3 pair of Hoka's previously and loved them, so reading the positive reviews on this new stability shoe (especially from people with P/F) I purchased a pair. These shoes made a HUGE difference for me right from the first run. Just did 7 mi's yesterday and they felt GREAT! If you have P/F or are just looking for pronation control, along with Hoka's comfortable ride, I strongly recommend this shoe!!
