The Staika 2 Person Tent by Hilleberg. Because of its Kerlon 1800 outer tent material, 10 mm poles and completely free standing design, the Staika excels on any journey where absolute strength is the highest priority, and where terrain could create difficult pitching conditions. Easy to pitch and fully able to handle heavy snow loading, the Staika will serve admirably in both exposed and/or above tree line and protected terrain, year 'round, in any and all weather conditions. And thanks to its spacious two door/two vestibule design and excellent static strength, it makes a superb base camp tent, where users will leave the tent unattended for extended periods of time.

The Staika is all about simple - but simple does not by any means equate to "sparse." Easy to pitch, immensely stable, remarkably spacious, and quite light, the Staika is an excellent "go to" tent for any use where sturdy strength is the high priority. Hilleberg originally designed the Staika for paddle tourers, who wanted a highly stable, fully free standing tent for handling tricky pitching conditions. Since then, it has garnered a large, loyal following amongst a wide assortment of other adventurers: mountaineers, polar travelers, and ski tourers find it a supremely stable base camp tent in all conditions; bicycle tourers love its simplicity and completely free standing construction; and even regular backpackers find great comfort in its roominess and relatively light weight as well as in its strength and stability.

Hilleberg Black Label Tents

Hilleberg Black Label Tents
Hilleberg's most versatile tents, Black Label models will handle any terrain or weather condition, from the mildest to the most demanding. Their simplicity, ease of use, and comfort make them perfect not only for any trip in any season, but also for general use in less challenging situations, and for less experienced users. Their strength, stability, and roominess, meanwhile, make them the best choice for long term, demanding, all season use in the harshest conditions – exposed and/or above tree line terrain, continuous heavy snow conditions, high-grit environments like deserts, beaches, and playas, and the like. Their extra durability increases longevity, and reduces the risk of problems, especially on longer adventures in remote areas, where repair opportunities may be limited.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fort Knox at only 9 pounds!! My strongest tent by far. This design by Sweedish folks is amazingly strong for its weight. The fact that the inner tent and rain fly erect at the same time is brilliant. Eliminates the possibility of the inner tent getting wet when it's dumping out. The venting system is very versatile, allowing for great moisture/condensation control. Lived in it for four days with buddy, plenty of room for all our gear. I have tested this tent along side some of the best 4 season tents on the market and this tent has held its own. The only downside is its price, but just like a great German sports car, you get what you pay for!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior quality and tremendous versatility I was able to replace 3 quality tents used for different seasons and conditions with this single do it all tent. Works equally well in summer or winter, snow or rain. Check out the setup video on their website and you will see how this can save so much time and energy pitching in bad conditions. Quickly detachable inner body converts this into a mini-shelter for cooking in or weathering out long storms. Tent stays taught in high winds making it very quiet even in bad conditions. Great ventilation that actually works in foul weather. This is a fantastically strong tent able to withstand the harshest conditions but provides so many well thought out features without being gimmicky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dome Fortress Utilized in SE AK a few times late fall in mostly rain and a light dusting of snow. As advertised waterproof tub and impermeable outer shell. Set up is straightforward and can be easily accomplished in the dark with headlamp. Good space for two and even better vestibule space for gear. A palace for one. Tent can be compressed to fit in a smaller bag than it comes in. In my opinion 8lbs is heavy for a 2 person tent but worth the peace of mind if the weather should turn ugly. Prefer dome style tent vice having to point the tent into the wind. Excellent product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic tent; for the right situation! Wonderful amount of space for 1 person with gear and tough as well, a Hilleberg - BUT - not for backpacking; too heavy. A great canoe tripping tent where I go (Canadian Shield) - no earth, just rock, trees, moss and water - which demands a self-standing tent. Absolutely nothing beets a Hilleberg! I know, I've had a few and still use their tarps when circumstances warrant. If I had to survive Armageddon out & beyond, it would be in this tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Tent. I am impressed with my new Hilleberg Staika. The evident durability of the materials I decided on the sand colored Staika this spring. In lieu of the one reviewer's story of pouring water into the inside of the tent and seeing it leak out, I did the precautionary seam sealing on the floor corner stitching and the center of the fly cap.,,,,The break-in was on my brick patio in Pennsylvania in early June. I set up for an anticipated record rainfall stormy night and throughout the following rainy day. I had the inner tent roof vents opened and the outer fly doors zipped down to their cap protected limit. I experimented with the inner tent venting options. I also did not use a footprint. I didn't sleep in it that night but routinely hung out and inspected it throughout my torture test.,,,,I did find that it is best to unzip the outer fly only up to 3/4 of the way up when entering the tent. This is enough to comfortably swing under the vestibule and open the inner tent without letting in the heavy rain. The brick patio tends not to pool any water.,,,,Nonetheless, the tent did not

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Reference Standard for Tents At a tick over albs packed, it's a commitment to carry this pack-even for 2 people. However, it's the most realistic insurance policy one can carry in the wilds and when considering that, it's not that heavy. My primary haunts are alone the shores of Lake Ontario and into the Adirondacks. Lake effect snowstorms here are generally measured by the foot and it's all too often that heavy, wet, 30º-sh degree snow that can collapse very good tents in short order. The Staika is the type of tent that can handle these snow loads with total competence and minimal fuss. It handles winds with equal skill and is built well enough to handle the abuse tents often see with small children around during family trips. I think it's the ultimate all-rounder and while it's an investment, it pays for itself easily by giving the user many years of high-end performance. Some complain about certain areas not being seam-sealed at the factory: this is a user-level responsibility and an optional one, as well. Regardless, I did not seam seal mine for it's first year and am yet to have any moisture make it's way inside. Site selection does a lot to handle this anyway. If you're mountaineering or requiring a task-specific shelter at a lower weight, look at the Jannu. Outside of that, I think this is the ultimate shelter for all-season use.
