Rated 5 out of 5 by from Serious Winter Coat Last winter was one of the worst I've seen here in Boston, and after that beating I decided I wanted a nice warm parka like all the fashionable people around town were wearing. I had received a "parka" from a different brand for Xmas, and the first cold day of the year I took it out for a test drive, where it failed miserably. Not warm enough. Did some research, and found good things about Fjallraven's Polar Guide Parka. Decided to give it a shot, and man am I glad that I did. I take a ferry to work, and standing on the dock at 6:00AM this morning I was in my furnace-warm coat. The wind howled, I smiled. The quality of this coat is very good, and the fit is perfect. I'm tall and thin (6' 2" 180 lbs), would normally buy medium tall shirts etc, and this fits me perfectly. The sleeves are nice and long, and the body is close fitting, but not tight. Bless those Scandinavians. Pros: Warm. Really warm. If its above freezing, too warm. Great styling Great fit lots of pockets Cons: Could be an inch or two longer, but not short by any means "Olive" color is more brown in some lights If you need a warm coat, buy this one.

Is this jacket wind proof? Also, what is the difference between this one and the other couple of parkas they offer? Excluding the down one.

Asked by: Mountain Man
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! The Fjallraven Polar Guide Parka is both wind and waterproof. The difference in parkas vary because of what they have to offer, i.e. best uses, weight, materials used, wind/waterproofing. I hope this helps you out!

What is the main difference between the Polar Guide and the Barents jackets? Which is the warmest and longest? Thanks

Asked by: Sister
Hey Sister, thanks for asking! The Polar Guide Parka is the longer of the two, and it's warmer than the Barents Parka. It's also more waterproof than the Barents. I hope this helps!

I am 6' 0", waist size is 36" and chest is 42". This parka would be mostly used in Alaska for winter and not for working. Which size I should choose: Medium or Large ??? Thank you ! Glamak

Asked by: Glamak
Hiya Glamak, thanks for your question! According to the size chart, you fall somewhere between a large and XL. (There is a link to a helpful size chart located in the lower left corner of the drop down size menu.) Usually we recommend sizing up if you are between sizes and plan to wear lots of layers underneath, but you might be fine in a large if you are just using it for commuting. Hope this helps!

which of these is more warmer from Fjallraven, Polar Guide Parks or Barents Parka? Also, what's the min. temperature till which both these parka's will stay effective?

Asked by: sanjv2015
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Actually, these coats do not have a temperature rating. In fact, most coats do not have temperature ratings. This is for several reasons. Mainly, it's because warmth is a subjective thing, unique to each person. Not only that, but there are other factors that can affect a person's (or jacket's) warmth: wind, humidity, activity level, what else your wearing, etc. However, there are still helpful hints you can use to guide you. Best bet will be to check the insulation. That should be your basic rule of thumb. For the Polar Guide, you're going to have 250 g Supreme Microloft for insulation. For the Barents, it will be 150 g Supreme Microloft, so it looks like the Polar Guide will be your warmest choice. Hope this helped you out!

Is the Polar Guide Parka long enough to cover a suit jacket?

Asked by: JeffD
Hiya JeffD, thanks for your question! The size large parka is 34.5 inches long, so it should fit over a men's suit jacket and cover the length. Hope this helps!

I am 6'1" with a 47-48 inch chest.  In U.S. sizes, I typically take an XLT or XXL. Is it true that in Fjallraven I would need to order an XXXL (3XL) as the size chart says? Or do they run large? Specifically the Polar Guide Parka or Barents Parka.

Asked by: Samsa
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! While the XXL runs just a little bit large, I would still suggest going with the XXXL. The sizing guide on our site states that the XXXL will accommodate chests 47 - 49". We get those guides directly from Fjallraven, and I'd wager that they know their material better than anyone. Hope this helped you out!

Is the fur hood lining real fur? I was looking at Canada Goose and had almost settled upon one of their parkas until I found out that they use real coyote fur, which I can't reconcile.

Asked by: damonbog
Hey there, Fjallraven does not use real fur in their clothing, accessories or any other products. Instead they use their synthetic alternative, Arctic Fur. I hope this helps!

Can the fur be removed from the hood? Is there a zipper for it?

Asked by: wundering customer
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! The Arctic fur edging around the hood of the Fjallraven Polar Guide Parka is detachable. It's secured by buttons, not by a zipper.
