The Exped Syn Mat UL 7 is a inflatable sleeping pad for mild temperature backpacking adventures. We're talking down to 24.8°F at night here, so it'll certainly do during those nice mild nights in spring, summer or fall. Inside the chambers is synthetic microfiber insulation, toasting up those cold spots while the air you pump in to keeps you off the ground. Abrasion resistant throughout, especially on the bottom half where it'll be snuggling up against the tent floor. Sleep well, forget about the bears out there.

FEATURES of the Exped Syn Mat UL 7

  • Microfiber insulation bonded to top and bottom for maximum loft/warmth
  • 20 denier fabric for weight/bulk reduction
  • Exped accessory pump recommended for inflation
  • I-beam baffles
  • Puncture and abrasion resistance values
  • Baffles welded between the microfiber filled air chambers eliminate cold spots and create a thick, comfortable, and stable air cushion
  • Synthetic microfiber filling is laminated to both upper and lower sides of the mat which eliminates the loss of loft common to synthetic filled sleeping bags
  • Air cells on the sides are thicker and give the mat a cradle shape that prevents you from rolling off the mat
  • Separate flat valves for inflation and deflation simplify handling
  • More durable and protected from damage as they are flat in design and non protruding

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfortable! A thick inflatable sleeping pad like this is a must have for anyone adventurous. I used to have a very basic thermarest trail lite, and this is miles ahead of it. The exped allows me to sleep on my side or any other position I would like without any trouble, and keeps me slightly warmer as well. Perhaps the best part about it is how well it packs - it's smaller than a 1L nalgene water bottle. Having slept on this indoors and outdoors on many occasions in many kinds of weather, I can vouch that it is as good as you think it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent mat for the weight I wanted a high R-value sleeping mat that was both lightweight and comfortable, meaning it didn't crinkle when I'd move in the night. The Syn Mat UL 7 met all my needs. It's comfortable, warm, light, and not noisy like Thermarests ultralight offerings. The Exped valve system makes it really easy to inflate and deflate, and it came with a sweet patch kit. I have zero complaints. This pad owns face.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ultralight Pad Just picked up one of these over the neoair trekker and im glad i did. This pad compacts down into almost nothing and weighs less than a pound. The material seems more durable to me and its thicker and has a higher R-value. Overall this is a great pad for any weight-conscious backpacker

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Amazing, yet disappointing. So first of all this product is wicked light and small. About Nalgine bottle size and less than a pound. It blows up nice and fluffy too. Now to the downfalls, it is loud. Like my other Exped mat, it will wake you up when you move. Seriously. And after 4 uses one of the 'cells' dislodged and so one side blows up huge and makes it pretty much useless, like sleeping on a hill. I am hoping this was a flaw and my next one will be better, we will see. But for the price, it should be perfect, IMO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing pad. Highly recommended. I find foam pads to be too thin, and an original generation NeoAir started leaking on me in the middle of a 5-day hike in Iceland, leaving me wary of the whole line. Synmat UL7 to the rescue. Incredibly comfortable; the separate inflate/deflate valves make it a breeze to set up, and the insulation is sufficient that it's replaced my DownMat for winter camping. Brilliant. The top surface will quickly stain from skin and hair oils, if the appearance of your gear matters to you... and it shouldn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, comfortable and light enough.. I love this pad! Weight is good for the comfort level and it's durable. I've got at least 50 nights on mine and never a leak. ,,,,If there is one place it's worthwhile to carry a bit of extra weight, it's your sleeping pad and bag! You will never regret it in the morning...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth the price! it may be expensive, but i challenge you to find a warmer, lighter and more compact pad that is still comfortable than this one. super light weight and pretty damn thick, i recommend supplementing it with the pump pillow though. it feels slick, but i haven't had any problems so far with sliding around at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for backpacking even in cold conditions. I have used this a lot. This pad can take a beating a still keep providing comfortable bedding. I love to take this backpacking as it is super lightweight, does not take up much space, and insulated against the cold very well. I took this on a trip where the temperature dropped into the 20 degree range and I was still toasty. I love this pad

Does the Exped ul7 mats larger outside "rails" have insulation in them ? Or are they just an air chamber ?

Asked by: Sherpa Dan
Hiya Sherpa Dan, thanks for your question! The Syn Mat UL does have insulation in the outer edges. By the way, the Syn Mat HL does not. Hope this helps!
