Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect multi-purpose gear Just came back from 3 weeks Alaska/Yukon by car. The Hardshell remained all times in the car and softshell/backpack was used every day. When needed fresh clothes went from the Hardshell into the Backpack, so only one bag to carry every day, but all goods handy all times. As I'm having the early model without the new stand-bar, the combined (vertical) pack tends to fall over, as the support from the bottom side is not as good as it seems to be with the new version that includes the "stand-bar". Definitely no need for (delicate) spinner-version. Prefer the current rugged configuration. If you cannot manouver it through the isle - check the bag in - other passengers will appreciate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome bag The ability to leave home with one bag and come back with two is all I needed to know about this bag. I'm done packing a soft duffle in my carry-on! One other note. I understand that some folks want this product with spinner wheels, but personally, based on my type of travels, spinner wheels are not effective. Ever try using luggage with spinner wheels on cobblestone pavement? Or rolling it directly from sidewalk to street level while jumping a curb? Having to stop to lift the luggage while walking briskly in a fast paced city like New York or Hong Kong is annoying. If all your travels ever include are smooth surfaces like airports and hotel lobbies, I can understand spinners. For the rest of life? Give me two good old fashioned inline skate wheels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only one word comes to mind: wow ! As a volcanologist I travel a lot, in hostile environments (dirt, dust, rough terrains) and hike a lot. I also travel a lot in developing countries. This bag is the proof that the human brain can produce something near perfection. The ones who imagined and then created such a practical and amazingly resistant product should be celebrated. It's just wonderful. Bumped into plane cargos, or overhead bins, carried on my back, on the back of a truck, dropped on cinder or cold lave, nothing seems to be able to alter my bag. I picked this bag as I often leave home with one baggage and come back with two after buying stuff during the trip. On the field, I have a backpack handy. This is the only baggage I'll ever need and the only one that fits my active life. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Eagle Creek Carry-on The flexibility of the Morpheus 22 is amazing. Leave with one great bag and have plenty of room to bring back more. The back pack option is amazing. Our last trip I used the back pack for several day trips. It easily carried my extra camera gear and rain gear. Then it all zips together for the trip home. The only thing I would add is a strap to piggy-back the zip-out bag to the roller back when separated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bag(s). This bag would be perfect if two changes were made: 1)improve the zipper function, 2) change the backpack straps. The zipper design for the main lid won't open enough to allow the top to flop out of the way, causing the lid to flop closed. Second, it would be great if it was possible to disconnect/remove the backpack straps because they take a lot of space. Other than that, I LOVE this bag and the ability to split it into two bags.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Bag -- but -- understand what it IS versus IS NOT I travel frequently for both business and pleasure, and the Morphus 22 is my go-to bag. I purchased it in 2013 and have seen 2 generations of the same product. I've waited to write my review until now. TL;DR ===== The Morphus 22 is an excellent bag -- but -- it may not be the best bag for everyone. Understand it's limitations and it will serve you *very* well. But don't get mad at the bag if it's "too small". (eg: No, it's not the bag's fault. You probably packed too much. Get a bigger bag.) Longer Version ===== The Morphus 22 is large enough for extended travel IF you know how to pack. The main compartment is unstructured space and performs best when used in conjunction with Pack-It system (or similar) products. Here are comments on specific features of the bag: Bi-Tech: The bi-tech fabric is highly resistant to abrasion. I've not had any issues at all. Bi-tech is puncture *resistant* -- it's tough -- but it is not puncture *proof*. Put another way, don't go out of your way to abuse your bag even if the bag is capable of taking most normal abuse square on the chin. Back-Pack Form: FIRST RULE OF LIGHTWEIGHT TRAVEL: "Never travel with more than you can't run with." The Morphus 22 is not an *ideal* back pack, but it does it's job when it needs to without issue. The male section is, essentially, the same as the EC Gear Hauler -- an unstructured sack without significant compression features. The straps are strong and surprisingly comfortable. The front panel is padded so you don't feel anything dig into your back. If you keep the hard-shell section attached, you can hoof it through an airport...just don't expect to be stylish in doing so. Wheels: I've dragged this bag through sand and they still spin smoothly. Tell me what is a better test? The wheels works great. If you overload the bag with dense, heavy loads, you can start to make the wheels splay outward (since there are two separate wheel housings). Again, this isn't the bag's fault -- the only time splaying happened was when I had both bags (~90+L / 100lbs) in the fully expanded form with all the weight on the wheels houses. Another reviewer mentioned it was hard to maneuver with only two wheels. I've not had this issue. It is a wide-ish carry-on and plane aisles are narrow. Steer it straight and you'll be fine. The design prohibits 4 spinner wheels, and if you need that feature, Eagle Creek offers *plenty* of options. But the two wheel design is generally (for all luggage) more durable and results in greater luggage capacity (since you do not give up bag height for wheel housing). Polycarbonate "Bathtub": This is the real reason I love the Morphus 22. The plastic shell is just stiff enough to protect anything fragile. I've packed bottles of wine, nested in clothing, and . Soft sided bags just don't have the same structure and flexibility. Laptop Pocket: This is one of the few detractors. When packed full, it is difficult to get into this pocket. You MUST be careful to not overpack the interior space, otherwise it will press outward on laptop pocket making it very tight. Overpacking: This is a **large** carry-on. IF OVERPACKED, THE FRONT OF THE BAG WILL DEFORM AND WILL NOT FIT IN ALL PLANES. YOU'LL BE ASKED (TOLD) TO GATE CHECK THE BAG. This is not the bags fault, but something you must realize with soft-side luggage. Never trust the specs for bag depths on soft-sided bags. You can deform the bag by ~1-2" by stuffing it too full. This means you might be allowed on the plane with it, but it will be impossible to fit in the bin without unpacking during the boarding process. Do yourself a favor -- accept this "limitation of the product" and don't overpack. But if you do overpack, don't be surprised if you must gate check. ************** SUMMARY: I'd get this bag again in a minute. What you are *really* paying for is: A) The No-Matter-What Warranty, B) Flexibility to have 200% your normal capacity *if* you need it. The rest are details. You can get less expensive well-made carry-ons, but if you have needs like mine (with drastically changing packing needs, often without returning to your point of origin), then the Morphus is worthy of consideration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bag! This bag worked well for a 2 plus week in France. We separated the bag and used the top portion for laptop etc in case we had to gate check on a smaller intercontinental flight, which of course, happened. The bag is very durable, rolls well and is lightweight. Two things we would change in design...firstly, make the backpack straps detachable as they take up a lot of room in front of the bag making the laptop hard to extract for security check. Secondly, the bottom case needs some kind of handles on the top to grab the bag more easily to get it in and out of the overheads and to hoist it into the car. We had to use the compression straps to grab it which was awkward. All in all it was a great choice for extended travel using packing cubes to keep it organized.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good We bought two Morphi in anticipation of a trip to Europe this summer. We've "tested" it thus far on two shorter trips and it has worked great.
