Rated 2 out of 5 by from top handle broke at first use seemingly perfect for carry on short trips, well padded straps, great compartment design but not possible to avoid using top strap to transfer to resting spot in plane or destination and this broke the first day!! sewn with a few casual stitches, then transport became very difficult when not on back

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hole in 32 Days I purchased this Bag on a trip in Germany in June and On a recent commute a hole had developed near the top of the bag, by the zip (where the two pieces of material joins.) The bag was only 32 days old. Eagle Creek are only taking responsibility for the repair of the bag and not the delivery costs. Even if this is a clear manufacturing defect. Overall I quite like the bag, particularly the size, number of pockets as well as weight of the bag. However I still disappointed with the Quality Control with the manufacturing of the bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Magical Afar Pack is an "AHA" pack. You have mis-named this Afar pack; it should be called the AHA! pack. I use this pack for day hikes although a metrosexual, digital-friendly computer commuter will find this pack close to perfection. Here are this pack's greatest traits: velvet-like zippers, clean design with no loose straps, forgiving shoulder straps, outstanding comfort. I am a compulsive gear person (super picky), and I give this pack an A+. The only improvement I have made is to attach padded shoulder straps to the hip belt so it can carry a good load without strap pressure on my hips. Eagle Creek, you all are truly magical. Your products are intelligent, thoughtful, and at the highest level of creativity and pragmatism. Thank you for your consistent excellence.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bag for college students I am a college student who wears a back pack most of the day, and who commutes on a bicycle. This back accommodates useful volume of stuff (computer plus 3 textbooks) without becoming too bulky. I only have one minor gripe and it is regarding pockets for small things. I carry various non-valuable items like mini purell bottles and a folding toothbrush and it would be nice to have a small external pocket for these so that I wouldn't have to open the main compartments (which have lockable zippers) to access them. Overall, the bag is well-made, comfortable, and suits my needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wonderful but with a design flaw Love the new design. It is NOT 'all ways secure' The laptop compartment is secure when wearing the backpack as the straps are in front of the zipper but it does not have a locking zipper (some zippers have the small holes in the zipper that are designed to put a lock through-- not sure what the official name so I will call them locking zippers). This is a no-go for me as I like to lock my laptop during long flights to Africa so I can feel a little more comfortable when I want to put my bag above me to sleep on flights over 12 hours. This has been a reoccurring problem with Eagle Creek as most of the backpacks have some locking zippers but not all of the zippers are locking zippers. I was looking to replace my EC Conor flashpoint backpack that has a locking zipper on the laptop compartment BUT not the main compartment. EC just needs to use locking zippers on all the compartments - I would gladly pay the extra money to get a backpack I can completely lock up. I loved the look of this bag but since I can't lock the laptop compartment, it is being returned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I purchased this for a trip to Maui and Moloka'i. I have several other Eagle Creek luggage items, but wanted to really go light this time. After comparing literally dozens of different day packs from various vendors, I went with Eagle Creek (again!) and this new offering. Using it in combination with the Specter sacks, I have packed everything I need for two weeks with room to spare. (Well, my EC fanny pack is going along, too.) Despite racking my brain for something missing or a way to improve the product, I can't think of ANYTHING. Kudos to the design team on this one. You knocked it out of the park! P.S. This is the first bag I've owned with a dedicated laptop compartment and I really appreciate that feature. I can get my ThinkPad out for TSA screening without disturbing the rest of the pack. P.P.S. As the other reviewer stated, the Ochre color rocks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ochre Afar is awesome! I purchased this pack in Ochre for car-camping, day hikes, and overnight trips. I really really like the Ochre, it stands out and although it is not a "pretty" color it is very appealing. It is very comfortable to wear. The compartments are well-thought out, and the mesh section outside the smaller front pocket is very useful. I use the Pack-It Cubes & Sacs to help make the most of my room, but it is very roomy on its own!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect carry on for a senior traveler Mainly for travel, nice for a senior person, comfortable on. I originally wanted the Universal Traveler Backpack RFID for the computer feature pocket opens all the way but it wasn't available in black. If this bag opened liked that it would be perfect!
