Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too complicated! I enjoy the 300 lumen light....when I can get to it. It would be a great asset to my early morning bicycle rides, if I could make it work properly. You put too many features into a simple devise. To get what I want I must press and hold for x number of seconds, squeeze here, press twice here, hold up over my head for 10 seconds, ........ Like I said, it's too complicated. And then, if I accidentally hit the wrong button, I have to stop my ride and attempt to fix it. I fiddled with it for so long this morning, the sun came up. So I stuffed it into my pocket and rode home in dawns early light and searched out the 12" x 18" instruction sheet, written in 23 different languages, to figure out how to get back to the 300 lumen light. Lets see, press here, hold here for 3 seconds, squeeze here........ Also, please explain the questions below "What is your level of expertise?" Expertise in what? I have a degree in Biomedical Electronics. I've walked around in the dark alot. I have other simpler headlamps that I may go back to using.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic product I bought this lamp with the intention of using it for camping however my home ended up losing power and catching fire. It performed well and kept me safe from debris.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile lighting equipment. I use my Black Diamond headlamp in a somewhat unconventional way. It is a bedside table lamp for me. Red light does not disturb my wife. If I need to light the room up the proximity & spot feature does just fine. Yes, we do have electricity. Main overhead lamp switch is not near our bed. Regular table top lamp can be way to bright in the middle of the night. The headlamp is also very useful for around the house maintenance work in dark places. I just go for evening walks in the city. I can not say if the product is good or bad for the serious outdoor enthusiast but I like it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Failed in a cave rescue While participating in a sea cave rescue using the Spot head torch this IPX8 rated item failed through water droplets getting into the battery compartment. The item was not even submerged and the security of the item was checked before being taken into the cave.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, bright light, but... I like the brightness of the main lamp. I had a very old non-LED headlamp and this Spot makes the old one look like it is not even on. All the pressing and holding of the one main button is a tad annoying, but I'll get used to it. I primarily bought this light as an emergency tool. I'm not a cave explorer, don't run trails at night, but when I'm in a dark place I want a flashlight or lamp that is bright and easy to use. My main issue is that the battery while in my bag was not great! I'm sure I've used the lamp less than 6 hours total, and I took it out of my backpack to check it this morning and my battery level was zero. I don't want to take the batteries out to store it in my pack, because quick access is the point. My dilemma: figure out how to extend battery life, or buy a different lamp.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only two faults but they're both really irritating This is the closest I've come to a ideal headlamp...but that doesn't mean I'm thrilled with it (just means nobody makes a headlamp I love). The brightness is generous without being "shock and awe", and thus the battery life is well balanced. I like the control scheme and beam patterns...sometimes they're not perfect but definitely close enough. The feature set is a good match for the price point but i HATE powertap. I can't imagine who even likes this feature. The only times i touch that button are after something else has accidentally triggered it - and it only seems to be sensitive to unintentional touches - once I've taken off my glove and am /trying/ to touch it, it takes multiple attempts. I end up angrily swatting at my own face like there's a fly. Headlamp = dark = probably cold = gloves. Please offer a model just like the Spot but without this stupid button. Or let me disable it. I'm on the verge of pulling out my soldering iron... Swapping batteries is a love-hate situation. While i don't have to do this very frequently because of the good battery life, battery changes always seem to happen in the cold and wet. I like how easily the battery door can open (compared with Petzl especially). That's great. The first battery comes out easily, too. The second one is hard...and i have never gotten the third one out without using a knife. I have pretty small hands/fingers and i can't even get that last one to budge. Even the addition of a little "ribbon" to pop the batteries out would go a long way to making me happier with this lamp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid upgrade from my Fenix HL30 I run Northern Lights tour company in Tromsø on daily basis and use it to access remote places at dark. The main use of the lights is to shine it on tourists to take well exposed portraits. I know it’s s niche for this lamp, but it’s just perfect! When having a well balanced flood on, I can just tap to ignite spot to manually focus on tourists and then tap the spotlight off to use flood for lightpainting. Most likely this wasn’t consideration when designing the headlamp, but so you know, it’s vouched by a Aurora pro now. :) Only thing red light could be yey brighter. Then again you can set flood to such a low light output, the red one is kind of obsolete, anyways. Loving it and glad i stumbled onto it.

Approximately how long is the battery life of the Diamond Light on high and lower settings? My son & I are going in the backcountry of Denali in Alaska. We need something that will not eat up battery power using a 'normal' light setting.

Asked by: Redsy
Hey, Redsy - way to go with those adventures!! Black Diamond doesn't necessarily provide an equivalent for "normal", but they state High only gives you about 25 hours and low setting gives approximately 180 hours. You could probably put "normal" somewhere at least at 100 hours. I used my own spot over a 3 month thru-hike and did not change the batteries once. I would primarily use it for an hour in the morning and in the tent at night for approximately 2. Hpe that gives you a good idea of what you will get out of it!!

How do you get the red light on?

Asked by: DEDe
Thanks for the question! Holding down the top mode button for two seconds will turn the red light on. I included the instruction manual below. Hope this helps! https://blackdiamondequipment.com/on/demandware.static/-/Sites-bdel/default/dwf07cb207/instructions/F16/MM5923_N_Spot_IS-WEB.pdf
