Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use Reliable This is the second Pieps DSP Sport I have purchased (one for me, spare for unprepared companions). I am a Search and Rescue member and am in the winter backcountry frequently. I find this unit to be a solid performer without too many bells and whistles. Transmit and Search ranges are adequate with a multiple beacon marking feature that works great. On a recent avalanche training course there were a multitude of different beacons in the group, the Pieps Sport was flawless and worked without any issues (that can not be said for some of the other units in the group - user error?). If you want something reliable and user friendly this unit should suit your needs just fine. Pros: easy to read, user friendly, solid construction, decent carrying pouch. Cons: LCD display may not work in extreme cold, search/transmit button may shift position when putting it in carry pouch (unlikely though, button needs significant force to move)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard to read screen wearing polarized glasses I know this beacon has many good reviews on its function, so this is not about that. But if you try to read the screen with polarized glasses or goggles on, it is very hard and may be impossible. I wanted to point that out so you aren't surprised in the backcountry. I wonder if they could make a little clear covering that would change the polarization so you could read it with polarized eye wear?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect I got this beacon because I love Black Diamond, I needed a reasonably priced beacon that had a flagging feature. This one fit the picture. It's pretty easy to use, the harness for it is easy to adjust and comfortable. However, the part of the beacon on the lower corner that connects to the wrist strap is flimsy and, broke quickly. Along with that the sliding component that allows you to go into send or search mode is starting to stick but is still functional. All in all I am satisfied with this beacon. I personally think it's better then the tracker 3. It's an awesome beacon for someone just starting to dabble in backcountry skiing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, easy to use, and accurate I have used this beacon in a few practice scenarios. It is easy to use, and accurate. Just as good if not better than the other beacons I have use. Screen is easy to read screen. The beacon is connected to the carrying pouch by a tethering cord which is not very easily disconnected should you want to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best beacon out there This Pieps DSP Sport Avalanche Beacon is best. It is so simple to use and works great in tests and training. The integrated Pieps pocket in the Black Diamond pants makes this beacon more convenient than dealing with harnesses. I know it will be where I can get to it fast and will work if I ever need to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lives up to its reputation As someone that primarily skis in the east and doesn't need all the bells and whistles of a more advanced beacon, this is perfect. I have yet to fully test it, but everything I have seen and tried so far is what I expected. I'll have more to share after a trip into the Selkirks soon. No snow in the east this year so heading west for some tour-drop skiing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely pleased Bought the beacon just in time for my first Avalanche safety class. Beacon range exceeded the range of classmates' beacons by 5-15 yds, and the beacon was easy to operate. Only annoyance for me was with the harness straps (especially the over shoulder adjustment), which continuously loosens - I'm at the small end of the range. Perhaps rethreading the strap will keep it stable, or I'll tack it down with a couple stitches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really, I mean 6 stars As a self proclaimed beacon aficionado... I LOVE the DSP Sport. I teach avy classes and have compared the DSP Pro and DSP Sport with an Ortovox S1+, and a Mammut Barryvox Element that I own in LOTS of demos and scenarios. Both DSPs are my favorites! The Pro is feature packed and great, but the Sport is the CLEAR return on investment winner. It's advantage over the Element being backlit display and quickness.
