Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's Sharp! I didn't much like this nut tool for a few reasons. There is no flat end to which you can pound with the palm of your hand to get a stuck piece out. With the Metolius and Wild Country nut tools, the ending is wider so that you don't have to take a rock with you whenever you want to knock a stuck nut out. Also, this guy is sharp! I'm careful when using it, especially on a really stuck piece because I know that I'll cut myself on it (not the rock like usual) if I grip it too hard, or my hand slides down the tool. When that happens (the couple times it did before I got a different tool) it's gonna be the end of your day of climbing!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A must have I'm not sure why some folks are bagging on the BD nut tool. Come on, it's a nut removal tool. How exciting is it supposed to be? It helps remove jammed nuts and cams like it's designed to. It even has a bottle opener for Christ's sake. If the edges are too sharp for your delicate hands wrap the end with some athletic tape. Tada! BD could have added more bells and whistles, but then it wouldn't be $9.95. It's always done what it was designed to do. No complaints here.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does the job, but other tools are nicer I love BD products, and usually super happy with them. However, I'm always lusting over friends nut tools. My biggest complaint is that many other tools come with a built-in way to connect this to a harness. One of my friends has a nut tool with an extendable leash (it is coiled like a telephone cord, which makes it easy to access the tool from the harness), and others have tools with a built-in clip or carabiner. As another user commented, the design also has sharper edges which are a little rough on the hands. The BD nut tool works, but its pretty bare bones and unexciting as far as gear goes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mandatory, Minimalist and Effective As a wise old goat once said to me (in somewhat cruder terms), "Never mind the Second; Set the pro." A nut tool is a mandatory part of the trad rack, because you can't always count on your Second having one, but you can count on jamming a nut on any trad pitch. A nut tool would have to be perfectly magical to get an "Excellent" rating from me, and the only way to get to "magical" is for the nut tool to pull impossibly stuck gear without me actually having to do anything to make it so. At "Good," this is the best nut tool that i've ever owned. Yeah, it could have a groovy clippy thing to fasten it to my harness or rack, but then it wouldn't cost $9.95. At that price point, I can drop this thing off a high cliff, never to be found (by me), and i won't cry. And the bottle opener feature ... that's a key feature for this climber, because it means that the designers are thinking holistically, like the rest of us rogues.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Round the Edge This is the only piece of BD equipment I complain about. The sharp edges on the handle make it hard on the hands when prying, pounding, and cussing to remove stuck gear, especially when striking with the heal of the hand. Keep the bottle opener and price point :-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to do. Light weight. Great tool, easy to handle, lots of places to tie on a leash, bottle opener is a nice plus. All in all, it's a good nut tool, and it does what nut tools are supposed to do.,,,,In hindsight, however, I think I would've been happier with the Metolius tool for its integrated wire gate. The wire gate is useful for keeping it clipped out of the way when you're not using it. With the BD tool, I usually keep an extra carabiner on the harness for the same purpose. Plus the solid 'blade' on the Metolius is handy for spreading peanut butter or mayo in a pinch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Nut Tool This is a great nut tool. I've used one for years, and it's very durable, works well, and it opens bottles too. You should pick one of these up, you won't be disappointed!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It does the job Well, BD's nut tool 'does the job', but not much else. Finish isn't exactly brilliant, and the clever ideas that all competitors have included in their versions of the nut tool are here absent. E.g. Hex to tighten the standard 17mm bolts, clip included, bigger overmoulded handle to grip better, etc. Overall, BD's nut tool does the job, but doesn't stand out above the rest
