Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Workhorse of my dreams I've owned this jacket for over a year now, and have had zero complaints after putting it through the wringer on alpine expeditions, and using it as a daily workhorse for motorcycle commuting. I tend to run hot and usually down jackets are too warm for me, leading to sweat and discomfort-which can be quite dangerous in extreme environments. The weight of the insulation, and breathability are perfect for high output activities, but it has enough standalone warmth for down times on the belay perch or stopping for lunch on a snowshoe outing. The shell material is fantastic, shedding moisture and standing up to abrasion. There has been a negligible amount of "pilling" on the back and shoulders from carrying a pack, but in no way am I concerned about this wearing out the material or accelerating wear. From living in the northern Rockies (Estes Park, CO) to now living in Milwaukee, WI this piece is my go-to for 90% of my needs. If I could only have one jacket (heaven forbid) this would easily be the one. I've never had "clones" of jackets, but would consider picking up a non-hooded version...this thing is a beast! In the photo below, I was snowshoeing in RMNP hovering just above 0 all day....I stayed nice and toasty and even found myself unzipping halfway! All I wore underneath was a lightweight baselayer and a mid-weight fleece. I only put gloves on at the very end of the day as higher winds and precip picked up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost an epic jacket.... I am 5'8'' and 170lbs. I purchased the medium and the fit is not ideal. This coat is definitely designed for tall and skinny folks. The coat ends up riding up my waste and bunches up. While it doesn't fit me quite right it is still a valuable piece of gear in my eyes. I've had the jacket now for about 6 weeks and I have have used it in the mountains and on the river in the Jackson Hole area. It has kept me warm and is breathable. I ended up getting pretty wet rafting one day and even though it had basically soaked through, this coat still kept me warm. The seam that connects the hood has already started to come apart. I'm hoping this coat proves to be more durable than I am so far noticing. I haven't put it through the ringer at all and a seam is busting....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Jacket I've owned this jacket for a very short time, just a few weeks, but so far I love it. It is warmer than I thought it would be and very light and pack-able. I bought a size up based on other reviews and am happy with the fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used as emergency gear I carry extra clothing on hikes in the Rockies and for XC skiing, as emergency gear. This jacket is a fine addition. It packs into a small volume, taking up about 6" of a rucksack. The first time I carried it, it was supposed to be sunny, but it was mostly cloudy and windy, and, at above 12,000', I got cold in my shirtsleeves. I wore the jacket, along with gloves. I warmed up. The hood kept my head warm, even though it fits loosely. BD recommends products like Nikwax Tech Wash for cleaning the hoody.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic This is my go to when it's chilly and there's any sort of precip. Insulates well, but still comfortable enough to wear up into the 60's. I feel like the internal pocket for packing it into itself is too tight and needs a bit more room. It's a pain to get zipped. But I don't need that feature much, so not a big deal. Stoked to see the jacket version coming out, and I'll definitely be picking one of those up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Core gear I used this on every BC ski trip this year. Depending on the weather it can be used on the up in the very cold or as a layer at the top and the ski down. Great for around town and can be used all year round. I love it - way to go BD!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile and light. The go to piece. Similar to Arcteryx atom. A perfect mid weight layer, light insulation and stretch schoeller outer. Good fit, nice length. The hood is oversized foe helmets, a bit big with no headwear on.
