Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent I've been very pleased with this tent. I use it as a one person tent and thus it's quite roomy. At around only 3 lbs weight it's not much of a splurge to use it for only one person. The net windows work well because when they are unzipped they don't flop down on the floor, they just flop down part way, and they can be rolled up and secured if desired. The single large door allows convenient in/out access and when it's open provides a nice view outside. It will have more condensation than a double wall, no doubt, but in a generally dry climate like the Sierras that is not much of a problem. On the flip side it is significantly warmer than a two piece tent. Finally, I love that it's so quick to set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent, Zero problems I used the original ToddTex tent by Bibler in Alaska for years. When trying to find a new one, I researched that BD now makes it! This Hilight tent just a little different but just as good. Single walled, breathable, inside construction with a large opening is the key to a light weight tent. I have experienced hordes of mosquitoes outside of the tent while stepping in, zipping up and constructing the tent: I have stepped inside it in blizzard conditions and constructed it from the inside (difficult but way better than trying it from the outside with a different type of tent); I have been in the tent reading while it was raining for 4 days straight (yes, I wiped down the inside with a camp rag). Now I take it on offroad motorcycle trips everywhere I go (just returned from South Africa, previously riding in Peru). Everywhere, other riders ask where did I get such a simple, uncomplicated tent. I am always sitting back with a brew while other riders are still trying to figure out how their life became so complicated!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very light, sturdy tent with all the space u need I used this on a climb/ski of Mt Rainier via the Emmons route. We had a quite night sleeping in light wind and it felt sturdy, and was impressed with its strength/weight. We did split up the poles & tent, but i could have carried both and not noticed it (even though my bag + rope + skis/boots was 68 lbs at start). I would have given it a '5-star' rating if BOTH sides had doors like the Ahwahnnee, but alas, it does the duty well. Spacious enough for two brothers (i'm 6'-1", he's 'barely' 5'-11"), with some gear to dry and water bottles to keep warm, but at 'exact' dimensions of all you need. We also used it in lower elevations and it was surprisingly easy to set up in < 5 min in the dark with a sole headlamp (true test of any tent). Kermit color is great! DO use a ground clothe as material is thin. Suggested Improvements (sorry, i'm an engineer): 1) gear pockets are on non-door side, which makes no sense with two people, why not at both short ends where both could reach instead of just one? 2) Stakes are thin sheets of metal that bend like spoon if you focus on them, just don't even bother (there is no stake!) 3) you have to seam seal it (i didn't), still not sure why that's not done, to save labor? Seriously, why? Don't you have interns? 4) Doors on both sides, otherwise climbing partner/bro will knee you when he climbs over and says 'oh, sorry'. yeah right your friggin sorry! (I made him carry the rope since i'm older) 5) More reflector tape. Don't ask why, climbing partner/bro thought it needs it. 6) center guide line points in middle of panel. I noticed this in the higher end mtn'r tents, unsure why it couldn't be done for this. Again, interns!?! I plan on using it in some future Sierra, international and ski mtn'r trips (hopefully) in future with my son, who at 2 is already asking (when we get in the car), "Daddy, mountains?" Ohhh... i have trained you well son, i have trained you well.. just don't become a Lakers fan and i will love you always.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from condensation issues This tent is lightweight and easy to set up. It is great for one person and you can store your gear inside the tent since there is no vestibule. If you are planning to use it with 2 people…they should know each other very well as i would call this a 1.5 person tent. My biggest issue with this tent is condensation. I have tried to use it on multi day backpacking trips and i am finding myself waking up in a wet tent, even though i have the ventilation wide open. Perhaps it works better in a desert rather than a mountain environment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for trekking only I went to a 3.000 meters high mountain nearby Santiago, Chile and I try to set up the tent in a windy conditions and it was quite difficult. To place the poles on those little spaces while the wind is blowing it is almost impossible. I ended ripping the tent floor because the poles go out of the corner and make a lot of pressure. For a trekking in mild conditions the tent it's perfect but for rough mountain conditions, you want to have another tent. I think BD should redesign the tent and includes a sleeve like the Sierra Designs Convert 2 tent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keep clean BD single-wall tents in this fabric will leak when dirt gets in between the fibers. Periodically wash and gently dry the tent per BD's instructions. (Firstlight user for 8 years.) The product has the virtue of simplicity - one shelter to erect with only 2 interior poles. But yes, the fabric is fragile. Inserting the poles into the rear corner patches takes some finesse. I once pierced the wall fabric around one of the tough patches in the rear and it went right through the wall. Be gentle, and pack some duck tape!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from top notch I'm a huge fan of both the Hilite and Firstlite tent, my go to backcountry kit from Himalayas to the Rockies, thanks BD!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for ONE person & all conditions As a backpacking guide, I've used this tent extensively for a few years now. It's light, sets up fast (once you figure it out), and stands up to snowstorms, rainstorms, and years of abuse. I only recommend it for a one person tent, as the sides of the tent are wet from condensation pretty much every morning. As soon as you try and squeeze (and I mean SQUEEZE) a second person in, you will both get wet and be pressing hard against the side of the tent and each other. Black diamond, please make a two person tent that is as good as this.
