Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for ONE person & all conditions As a backpacking guide, I've used this tent extensively for a few years now. It's light, sets up fast (once you figure it out), and stands up to snowstorms, rainstorms, and years of abuse. I only recommend it for a one person tent, as the sides of the tent are wet from condensation pretty much every morning. As soon as you try and squeeze (and I mean SQUEEZE) a second person in, you will both get wet and be pressing hard against the side of the tent and each other. Black diamond, please make a two person tent that is as good as this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from condensation issues This tent is lightweight and easy to set up. It is great for one person and you can store your gear inside the tent since there is no vestibule. If you are planning to use it with 2 people…they should know each other very well as i would call this a 1.5 person tent. My biggest issue with this tent is condensation. I have tried to use it on multi day backpacking trips and i am finding myself waking up in a wet tent, even though i have the ventilation wide open. Perhaps it works better in a desert rather than a mountain environment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Keep clean BD single-wall tents in this fabric will leak when dirt gets in between the fibers. Periodically wash and gently dry the tent per BD's instructions. (Firstlight user for 8 years.) The product has the virtue of simplicity - one shelter to erect with only 2 interior poles. But yes, the fabric is fragile. Inserting the poles into the rear corner patches takes some finesse. I once pierced the wall fabric around one of the tough patches in the rear and it went right through the wall. Be gentle, and pack some duck tape!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a great lightweight tent for one person, highly recommended! My back country ski partner and I chose to replace our 7 pound 2 oz, 49 square foot tent with two of these. We lost 1 pound 10 oz and picked up 5 square feet of space in the deal! The HiLite’s performed fantastically on the Sierra High Route this spring, standing up to gusting winds and snow fall. Setting up with the interior pole system is a little awkward until you get your system worked out. For those of you that are 6 feet or taller, I think this tent will be too short for comfortable use. There was notably less condensation with the HiLight’s compared to our other tent, and having your own private space was kind of nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Light & Fast 4 Season Tent It really keeps the water out, but one have to seam seal it just out of the box. The fabric is water-proof intended for 4 seasons, which means more for snow, winds, or cold and dry conditions. That's why the ventilation is just 2 panels on top, that said, when the weather is considerable warm and wet, rain is not gonna get through BUT condensation is gonna be the main issue inside. The awning, really useful when getting in and out and keep roof stretched when is wet. Also if wind is hitting from either side, all the air gets redirected through the windows of the tent. A feature that is missing in the firstlight. If there's two people sleeping there, the one inside has to jump over the other to get out. But both persons can be seating inside while cooking, putting boots on or simply feeling less like inside a dark cave.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE IT We have had this tent on glaciers in sand and rain. Fast to set up and light in the pack. After one summers of a ultralight tarp set up with poles in heavy mosquitoes we upgraded to this at pretty much the same weight. Blew over in the wind once and immediately the fabric got abraded and cut. After 2 years of use it shows signs of wear on the floor due to abrasion on the fabric and since the door rolls down it is impossible to not step on it sometimes. Not very durable but that is the trade off for super light. Did I say we camp a lot on talus. What tent would would up to that? Did I say I love this tent. Also, well worth the single wall condensation trade off. But we never camp very long in wet so I can't really say how it does with it's lack of ventilation. For us, the minimalist "this is only a bivy shelter for 2" ideal you will be very happy. By the way, we are not small. husband 6'3" and I am 5"9 We carry garbage bags and keep our packs outside the tent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bottom line is that it's cheap, light and warm. Bottom line After spending 3 weeks in the HiLight with my climbing partner on the West Buttress of Denali I can't say too many bad things about it. It's tight quarters but it's manageable. No room for backpacks and such with 2 people. Which was fine for us. Condensation is handled pretty well with 2 huge side vents. But with 2 people is does get a bit much. Our worst day was at 17,200 high camp and we had -20F with 30mph winds. The walls were pushed in (obviously) But for the weight it did incredible. Kept up fairly warm as well. My parting words are, For those looking for an "Expedition" style tent. This is not it. If you don't mind close quarters and just want plain old shelter this is it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It shrunk I had the older version of this tent (it was yellow) for many years and it really is an ideal tent. Solid, lightweight, you can zip it totally closed for cold weather, it fits two people well. Because it was getting older, I worried it wasn't going to stand up to a true downpour any longer. So I ordered this tent. It looks like it just changed color, but it actually got smaller. I'm 6' and my head and feet are both rubbing (I usually sleep diagonally in the tent if I'm solo). I haven't tried putting two people in this tent yet, but it's going to be really tight. The other slight bummer is the old door opened completely, leaving just the mesh window opened. Now, the window is just at the very top. I used to be able to leave the door totally open (with the netting zipped up) so I could watch the sunrise. On the plus side, it is about 6-8 oz lighter...
