Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built and light This tent is fragile. I highly recommend the ground cloth if you set this up on forest or rocky terrain(ground cloth doesn't fit exactly). Sets up super fast and packs easily. I'm 6' and just barely fit length wise. Love the head room and for solo trips this tent has plenty of floor space for all my gear inside without the need for the vestibule. Held up great to some mild Colorado rain without being seam sealed. Also vented well with the somewhat constant wind. Can't wait to get this tent in some snow conditions!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Alpine Tent I purchased this tent for alpine climbing. I set it up at our base camp at 10,500 feet in snow. It is very roomy for one person and gear. The guys next door were sharing a Firstlight, and admitted that it was cozy for 2 people. The floor kept me dry during my 2 days in base camo, and the tent was rock solid In windy conditions. Some people have complained about condensation issues with this tent (expected with a single wall tent) but I experienced zero condensation problems. I am very pleased with this tent!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome tent for the right application I usually don't write reviews but the Firstlight has been so good to me that I just have to. It's been a great tent for light (and semi-fast?) alpine climbs, for spring ski touring and for backpacking in dry climates. It is a pretty tight fit for two people but workable, depending on your relationship even for multiple nights. It is downright luxurious for one person. I found it very easy to pitch, just make sure to put the ends of the poles into grommets so you don't puncture the floor. The fabric and the floor are pretty delicate (= low weight) so be gentle. I have used the tent for ten years (say a total of 300 nights) and it held up great. I was using ground cloth almost all the time which likely helped. It stands up to relatively high winds but it will sway a fair bit so pick the orientation wisely. As the description says, it is not waterproof. We were chased out of Bugaboos after 24 hour non-stop rain... that's a user error, not an issue with the tent. After ten years of use, the floor started leaking when pitched on snow. Unfortunately, this awesome tent met an untimely end when one of the guylines broke in super gusty winds on mt Rainier, it blew off a ledge and then got shredded when I hauled it back up over rocks and ice. But it still kept all out stuff inside from spilling out so great service till the very end! Now I am really split between getting a new Firstlight or an Eldorado (since it would be really nice to have a bit more room and waterproofness but I don't like the idea of additional 2 lbs of weight...).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for winter and dry-weather camping in Alberta I did a lot of research on this tent before buying it, and am very happy with it. I use it for camping all through the year. I'm careful to watch for rain in the forecast and take an alternate tent if it's going to be wet. I am consistently surprised when folks complain about this tent not being water proof - it is NOT designed for RAIN folks. It is designed to handle snow and very mild airborne moisture. Set up is super easy - take a little care when putting the ends of the poles into the grommets at the floor. You don't want to puncture anything. One the poles are in and the shell is velcro tabbed to the poles - this tent is sturdy! Breathability is very good. I use this as a spacious, lightweight single person tent. It is luxurious for one person. The interior headroom is fantastic. After owning this tent for two years, I just purchased the vestibule to increase space for cooking and storage. I'm looking forward to many more years of service from this tent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great, simple setup, good in high winds I've used this tent on and around Shasta a few times, both on scree and directly on snow. I bought this tent after seeing mountain guides using it. Nice and light, Easy setup. Good in snow and in high winds. I haven't used it in the rain yet. It's supposed to be a two-person tent, but I'd say only if you like spooning with the other person.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just back from the Latok/Ogre cirque I spent seven weeks in the Karakorum and used the firstlight during climbing forays. If lightweight and easy setup are for you...look no further! I'm 6 ft. Tall and it's long enough for me but if you're much taller it might be too short. I stayed dry during several snow events. It is certainly snug and you might consider the vestibule...I, for one, was going as light as possible. It's on my equipment list for a go at San Lorenzo in Patagonia this January!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pretty good, missing a key feature of Bibler Tents After growing up only using Bibler Tents I was excited to get the firstlight but it disappointed me. It is great in dry arid climates like the Tetons, and Rockies, but doesn't breath as well as a Bibler; there is almost always some condensation on the inside even when the vent and door are open all night (door 4-6 inches open). When I've used it in the Olympics, Cascades and Rainier it can end up really damp inside. It is incredibly light which is really nice for super light trips. My biggest complaint is how the side anchors have been eliminated. They would be located right below the logo on each side of the tent. On the old Bibler tents these were really nice, adding a noticeable amount of space on the sides and keeping the tent off of your sleeping bag, which reduces dampness and dew from getting on you. Below is a picture of the current I-Tent which still has the side anchor your can see it doesn't add any noticeable weight to the tent, but does add a lot to the tent. It looks like the current Eldorado is also missing the side tab. If you want a true 4-season tent I would recommend the I-tent unless BD makes some changes to the firstlight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Camper Have used for several years of backcountry ski and mountaineering trips and I'm super pleased with it. Super simple, strong, and packs small. I use the vestibule when rolling with my partner..for extra space, Small foot print makes finding a spot and hacking out a platform easy peasy.
