Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great pack - just be sure it fits you This pack ticks all the boxes on the list of must have features of a solid touring pack. That said, I could nit pick just about every one of those features, while at the same time acknowledging that most all of the shortcomings were likely intentional compromises to keep the weight to a minimum. Admittedly, weight savings, is the main reason that I bought this pack and so if weight savings trumps all, this pack hits the mark. I can overlook the nit picky things like: - impossibly small webbing loops for the helmet carrier (good luck with gloves on) - the lack of reverse-pull hip belt straps - somewhat undersized top pocket - small zipper pulls - hip belt pockets that cannot be completely zipped shut with one hand (seriously, this is just annoying) - A-frame ski carry that requires a bit of "strategery" to ensure that your ski edges don't rub your butt all the way up the hill (but hey, at least it has both A-frame and diagonal) All of these can be excused and overlooked in the name of weight savings, and I would have happily continued to use this as my go-to touring pack despite all of the above. I will especially miss the Avalung integration that you can only get on BD packs. However, the reason that it will be relegated to my resort and side-country pack, is that it is not comfortable to wear. This is somewhat due to fit, but also due to a fairly sub-par suspension system (or lack of one altogether). I am a 6'1" tall, broad shoulders and chest, long torsoed male. In the M/L torso length, this pack just does not have enough room for me. If your body shape/type is anything other than the typical 5'8", sub 185 lb, wirey moutaineer with a perfectly average length torso, you probably will want to try a few other packs before deciding that this is right for you. If that describes you... you cannot go wrong with the Dawn Patrol 32.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well thought out pack. This pack is great! Well done, intentional design. Love that it has so many options for attaching skis vs. board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The right stuff This pack has a few things going for it that I think future packs should keep. Hip pockets: Large enough for sunscreen and my camera. No need to take the pack off for essentials Insulated water hose on shoulder: Again, no need to take pack off for essentials Back panel zip: when you have your shred sticks on your pack and you need to relayer, you have access Pack shape/compression straps: this pack is deceivingly large and can get small and still carry weight well. Not in way of your helmeted head. Its doesn't really deform to the point where it cannot effectively carry skis. The straps and buckles lock out so they do not loosen around the edge of a ski. Helmet carry: 2 options- up on top of pack for the snowboarder or right out back for the a-frame skier. This feature is done so simply its not not some overengineered gimmick. Both options are great without adding some weight/bulk nonsense. Zippers: time will tell. They seem smallish but there isnt any weight relying on teeth on this pack. So I think its going to last. Avi pocket: this is nice but I would try your shovel handle and probe length out prior to using. I barely fit my BCA 300cm probe and my K2 Backside shovel handle. Its straining the zippers and deforming the bag and the velcro that holds the helmet carry is unable to preform. But- its not too bad- skiing is awesome!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lightweight and trim, some drawbacks I liked the low profile and clean presentation of this pack. The straps aren't miles long, and it all tucks away cleanly. Ski carry and helmet carry are fine, I like the belt pockets and insulated hydration sleeve on the shoulder. Some things that didn't work as well for me: the back panel zip doesn't include the shoulder straps, and the hydration bladder pocket is placed in an outer layer of the pack, not against the back panel. This places the weight of the water farther from your back, affecting center of gravity/skiability, and cluttering up hose routing to the shoulder. Finally, the zippers were fairly small. I know this is done to reduce weight, but durability was affected. I think it was a great pack for light day tours, but with the current layout and durability it doesn't quite stack up for longer, heavier days or technical outings.
