The Black Diamond Couloir Harness features a minimal design that's low-profile and keen on weight savings. It's incredibly lightweight for a technical climbing harness and compresses down smaller than the size of a Nalgene. The padded leg loops distribute weight evenly to reduce any pressure points, and the fabric is quick-drying to keep you comfortable for the duration of your climb. A rear drop seat and front buckles make for easy on and off, especially while wearing crampons or chunky ski boots.

FEATURES of the Black Diamond Couloir Harness

  • Redesigned ultra light construction with hydrophobic fabric and Fusion comfort technology
  • Speed buckle for easy on/off while wearing skis or crampons
  • Two webbing gear loops
  • Four ice clipper slots with ice screw slot in each leg loop to reduce clanking
  • Full-strength belay loop
  • Extremely light, packable and low profile
  • Primary fabric is bluesign approved

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waist buckle The worst waist buckle design I ever seen on climbing harness, even ancient old BD Alpine Bod had easier one to operate. Otherwise neat and pretty construction belt and leg loops, buckle was a deal breaker for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from light, strong, overall a good lightweight harness I also bought a Petzl Altitute, whose similar product design and purpose with BD Couloir. Compare with Petzl, BD Couloir's belay loop looks more stronger. It is simple, easy to pack and light (but more weight than Petzl Altitude) There is only XS size for BD Couloir and that's why I bought it. Overall it is a nice harness, but I don't like the elastic cords on the back of leg area.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super lightweight and compressible harness takes up very little room in your pack, great for alpine climbing and mountaineering. The leg loops are adjustable and the whole harness can be removed easily.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from needs improvement the harness/leg loop junction is too thick and is uncomfortable under waist belts, the camp alp has a better design for lightweight harnesses if you are going to use a pack with a waist belt

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a huge fan.... Buckle is just a troublesome as old coulior buckle, super hard with gloves. Also hard to take off. Also there's no real way to deal with excess extra length on waist belt. Just flops around. That being said it's light and is comfortable under a pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great mountaineering harness Used this harness for the first time last week on a Rainier climb and it was excellent. Very comfortable for all day wearing and easy to detach leg loops to add/remove layers while still being connected to your rope for safety at the waist

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light and simple I've used this harness primarily for glacier travel and an alpine ice route. The four available ice clipper slots allow for some adjustability in which slots to set the ice clippers which was nice. The screw holder strap on the leg loop was nice and effective at keeping the ice screw from bouncing around on the leg during glacier travel (or would do the same for glaciated skiing) and fit a variety of screw diameters. The materials are lightweight and trim and the harness is overall lower profile than the previous generation, and thus is more comfortable under a pack. The gear loops are usable and large enough to carry a light alpine rack, and fully adequate to carry what you need. They are however small enough to not carry a double rack, but that's not what this harness is for... The only downside is the buckle. It's not exactly speedy, I've found I still need to feed the webbing through with both hands to get the harness to cinch down which is a problem if it's very cold and you're wearing gloves. Other than that the harness fits the bill well for alpine missions skiing or climbing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best harness for mountaineering (only) I bought this harness for mountaineering trips (only), is perfect very lightweight and good fit. For people who complain about difficulty peeing with the harness on is not true, the buckle on ether leg can be open very easy and the harness will shift almost by itself giving you the comfort for your necessities. Is correct if the buckle will be just slightly bigger this harness will be 5 stars. However since you adjust this only once on the beginning of your climbing ok may be twice I do not se such a big of a deal. I recommend this harnesses for mountaineering. The product is not designed for rock climbing or to spend significant amount of time on harness, is that's what you want go buy Petzel.
