Rated 1 out of 5 by from BD just told me these are not meant for skiing. I bought a pair of these to take on a cat skiing trip and they worked ok; the adjustment would not hold, but overall they worked well enough. It was nice to be able to bring my own poles. . I took a low speed fall on a catwalk the week before an Alaskan heli trip and broke one of these poles. I just contacted BD warranty and was told this about the compactor SKI pole: "These poles are really not meant for skiing, and more for uphill only" Into the trash they go...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for splitboarding use them for ascending with splitboard. this is my second pair, first pair was the short version which i accidentally got really cheap. had the feeling they were bit to short (me185cm) so i sold them. Second pair got the long ones. i never had the problems mentioned below, but havent used a pair longer than 2 yrs. The working principle ist very good, very easy to unfold and very easy to store since folded very small (ca. 42cm). considering the weight i dont have any comparison, for sure not more than any standard aluminium pole. The only thing that i recognized is that the poles arent very stiff, with the short ones i once made the last meters to the top by foot, when coming back down slipped a bit and put a lot of weight on one pole so the pole bend really bad and then was bend permanently - but didnt collapse. i managed to bend i back. the pole is in use until now by a girl. for me it might not be usable anymore. as well the longer version doesnt seem to have a lot of bending-stiffness or buffer against buckling. this might as well be the inevitable trade off between handling/spacing and stiffness. another thing that could be improved or that i miss is a foam rubber lining underneath the grip, if the pole ist used when crossing a hillside and you grab the upper one underneath the grip you hold on cold metal. for my purpose the pole is very good - despite the low stiffness - because i am not doing extreme things. for skiing and descending i would have big concerns, when you crash once on the pole heavily its gone. dont think the poles are made for this would by it again.might add foam rubber by myself.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Prohibitively heavy I like the design (sets up like a probe), but was shocked by their weight. I wasn't expecting the lightest pole since there is a carbon fiber version, but these are the heaviest ski poles I've ever encountered. Ended up getting BCA Scepter poles, similar design and price but far lighter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not your all weather pole I bought these poles to tour in the backcountry on my splitboard. The height adjustment and size they condense down to were what sold me originally. The poles are comfortable and easy to use but I've had some issues. One of the baskets was not entirely screwed on which 4 people could not figure out how to do. I should have taken it back to the mountaineering store but thought it was on good enough. Current status: one basket down. The larger issue I experienced this past weekend was the pole freezing at the top of the mountain during my ski to split transition and making it impossible condense the poles in order to pack them on the side of my bag. The pole won't condense unless the button at the top is pressed and that is what froze (along with my hand during the process of trying to press the button down). Not sure if this can be rectified but just my experience.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money I used them three times and lost a pole basket each time. The final time resulted in the pole snapping. Don't waste your money. Unfortunately a bad product from a reputable company.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from compactor failure again! Once again let down in a serious location by a compactor pole failure in the same spot. The glue on the silver fixing of the top joint seems to come loose and the pole just flops. A pole repair kit saved the day again could be pretty serious without . I can't understand why the fixing is only glued in. I've repaired a set of poles before with a rivet through the pole. Last time i'm using these , Another brand for me from now on, just lost faith in these . Skinning at 4000m on an icy slope is not good with one pole.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broke 3 in 2 years Very light and compact, fast transition from storage/backpack to pole mode. But too fragile. You cannot rely on this item far out in the backcountry. I broke 3 of them skinning up normally.
