Rated 5 out of 5 by from Huge fast and light shelter I've been using this tarp tent for 2 years and its phenominal for Colorado and Utah backpacking. If I dont feel like using hiking poles I'll just use sticks to hold it up. At sub 1.5 lbs it easily fits 2 people, a 60lb dog and all of our gear and keeps everything sheltered from rain. Just be aware you are sleeping on the ground and have no protection from bugs. I'd never use this for camping in Vermont in May but in the right location its the best backpacking shelter, extremely light and durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultra Light I love having this tent in my pack. It takes up less space than a Nalgene bottle and weighs next to nothing. Yes seam sealing does take a bit of time (buy 2 tubes for the outside and 2 more if you plan on doing the inside as well(...not necessary)) however it is well worth the extra effort, just look at it as a way to familiarize yourself with a new piece of gear. I rarely leave my car without this tent just in case I get caught in unexpected weather. Just the though of being dry and out of the wind no matter what I encounter make the extra few ounces worth it. Most of us carry trekking poles anyway, and I love that I don't need a special pole for it. Also after setting it up a few times it will only take you 1-2 minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beta light tent For the size, weight and cost this tent can not be beat. I have used for years, across Scotland, Colorado trail twice, the whole AT, just to name a few. The only things I have changed or added was a 12 inch mosquito net sewn on the bottom edge and 5 more tie downs sewn between original tie downs for when it really rains.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved this tarp This was my traveling buddy on the JMT. It only took me one tube of seam grip even though I bought two just in case to seam seal everything. The trick is to spread a thin layer just over the threads and it will dry fast. The tent held up in hail, wind and sideways rain. It accumulated a lot of condensation but that may have been mostly from my heavy breathing! I usually slept sideways inside, between the two trekking poles for optimum space. Great tarp and trusty sidekick.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Getting her trail-ready was a pain, but boy is she light! After years of carrying way too much weight on the trail, I finally had an epiphany and started picking up some lighter weight gear. For shelter, I ditched my heavy old dual-wall tent and went the bivy sack route - which was great until I got some real precipitation. From there, I made the decision to pick up a BD Beta Light which I thought would be a great compromise between usable shelter space (instead of the claustrophobic cocoon of a bivy sack during a rain storm) and weight. It was. Only two complaints: 1) Seam-sealing it is a pain. Plan on three tubes of sealer and give yourself a few days if you don't have the weather and/or the yard to pitch it upside down and seal the whole thing all at once. 2) BD doesn't offer poles for this thing and if you're like me and don't use trekking poles - BD's tent pole solution for the Beta Light - then you're on your own. After some poking around on the internet, I found a website that stocks all the goodies for making your own tent poles, but it'd be nice if BD at least offered poles for this product. Otherwise, fantastic piece of gear. Sheds the water great and can't beat the weight. Poles (carbon fiber - sourced elsewhere), stakes, stuff sack, and fly (it's not a tent) came in at just over a pound and a half.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome tent Easy to pitch and take down. Weighs almost nothing compared to my previous tent. Incredibly roomy inside. --CAUTION-- BD recommends the seams to be sealed prior to use...wonder why doesn't BD sell them already fully sealed?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful lightweight product This product is packable, lightweight and a great emergency shelter. Also wonderful for lightweight backpacking. A good alternative to a bivy sack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent 2 person minimalist tent. Sets up fast and easy, easily adjusts for weather conditions, size of a water bottle, weighs less than 1.5 pounds. Comfortable for 2 with all the gear. I shed 2+ pounds by switching to this tent/tarp, great decision. A piece of Tyvek for a ground tarp and you are ready for almost anything.
